Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

For anyone that still needs to hear this: there are no good billionaires! ABAB. This dude right here was the poster child for "good billionaires'. I don't know whether only evil fuckers can become billionaires (probably), but I do know that having access to functionally unlimited wealth and power will inevitably warp your soul.

[–] osanna@lemmy.vg 2 points 1 day ago

I prefer ABAC. All Billionaires Are Cunts.

This dude right here was the poster child for "good billionaire"

Really? I mean he tried really hard to whitewash his image with his charity and malaria research, but he was always a piece of absolute shit and the ‘good billionaire’ label was always a scam: DOS deal games, monopoly behavior, billionaire policy capture through his foundation, education meddling, vaccine-IP politics, nothing he did was truly charity, everything was self serving.

I fully agree with you. I been team "fuck Bill Gates" forever. I just mean that there's a whole lot of people that were jock-riding him.

[–] nwtreeoctopus@sh.itjust.works 24 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Any good billionaire could donate down to being a hundred-millionaire and live a life of obscene comfort for generations. Why wouldn't you, if you weren't trash?

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

a billionaire would never give enough away money to make themselves poor, they are too use to that lifestyle. like a millionaire dont want to be 10 or 100 thousandaire.

[–] nwtreeoctopus@sh.itjust.works 1 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Being a hundred-millionaire is not making yourself poor or even giving up that lifestyle.

But yeah, of course they don't do it: billionaires can't be good people.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 12 hours ago

ONLY POSSIBLE way is they "DIE"(which is a hit or miss, like for example some med school recieved 1bn+ donation and it gave free tuition, however it allowed the med school to exclude disadvantaged people because they can be more selective(like making the entry into med school harder) or lose all thier money from horrible investments.

gates was and is one of the most ruthless billionaires, thats why his sudden pivoting to "helping africa" was all but disengenious, but now it made sense since the epstein files came out.

[–] LumberjackRanger@leminal.space 4 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Yeah the money thing can make good people terrible

[–] cecinestpasunbot@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I don’t think Billionaires like Gates were corrupted by their money. Rather, I think only narcissistic sociopaths care to do all the fuck of things necessary to amass that kind of wealth and power. Anyone with a conscious would stop much earlier.

[–] osanna@lemmy.vg 1 points 1 day ago

FYI, it's conscience, not conscious. Though admittedly, sometimes I wonder if these billionaire cunts are conscious at all.

[–] electric_nan@lemmy.ml 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Imagine winning the game. But you have decades of your life left. By definition, you have access to the most exclusive of everything. Nobody ever tells you "no". I'm not surprised these fucks decide that even the the most universal social taboos shouldn't confine them.

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

The thing is, you can start to taste that at a much lower level, that's why everyone tries to get there. Normal people would retire and look to enjoy their life at $100 mill. But once they get that taste, they want more of it. That's why we put down lions, sharks and crocodiles after they eat a human. Oh, and because they're not billionaires.
