3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Rudolph W. Giuliani, the former New York City mayor who has been diagnosed with pneumonia, is applying for free medical care through a federal program for emergency workers and others exposed to toxins following the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, according to his lawyer.

More than 152,000 people have been enrolled in the initiative, the World Trade Center Health Program, which pays for medical research and provides free medical care to people affected by the terrorist attacks. Beneficiaries have access to doctors who specialize in Sept. 11-related illnesses, and the patients don’t face co-payments or deductibles.

Now I fully understand why everybody is negative towards him getting this care. And I fully get why everyone hates his existence completely.

That being said, if Giuliani never did anything after his mayoral term, he would be fondly remembered today. There was a time when he was remembered as the hero that held NYC together during and after 9/11. If he just stayed out of politics after that, and was only remembered the 9/11 mayor, he would actually have a legacy worth remembering.

But he didn't. He got back in the spotlight. He did everything wrong after that. He's become an embarassment, and a joke. He's basically a grifter at this point.

HOWEVER......he was still present at many 9/11 media sites, including the site of the destroyed towers in the days when asbestos was still in the air.

It took Jon Stewart to get this program approved. I'm unclear if Giuliani stood against it. I don't think he did. But regardless, if anyone deserves this program, it's the first responders. After that, second in line should be medical staff that helped during 9/11. After that would be Giuliani. I feel he should be low on the priority list, but still on the list. He DID do a lot to help NYC at that time.

With all that out of the way, I feel like everybody should have 100% free healthcare at all times.

Depending on if you want to give him credit for the NY mafia family crack down. He went after the Italian and any other mafia group that wasn't Russian. Don't look too much into that. I'm sure there wasn't any special deals going on back them. 🙄

Hey, happy cake day!

Now, before we go getting all misty eyed over 9/11, let’s not forget that as mayor he hired an avowed racist that implemented the “stop and frisk” program, which targeted minority populations throughout NYC.

The racism got so bad that his police force raped a man with a broken broomstick who was chained up in the precinct. Afterward one of the officers paraded the bloody, feces slathered broomstick around as a trophy. The victim broke or lost several teeth, and had such severe internal damage that her was hospitalized for 2 months.

A few years later, they shot an unarmed guy 41 times after he ran away from them.

Giuliani is a horrible person who used a terror attack to bolster his image.

My family is from the Bronx; my sister lived in Brooklyn for ages. I was talking to her about Guiliani after 9/11, and she said everyone in New York absolutely loathed him.

Locals tend to know their own better than the nation at large. Look at Trump's popularity in NYC even before he turned into neo Hitler, for example.

Giuliani had the NYC emergency management/crisis center relocated to the WTC despite experts warning him that was a bad idea.

He gave us the press conference at the 4 Seasons .... Gardening.

I will always remember him for that and it would have been nice if that would have been the final chapter for him and Trump

[–] teslekova@sh.itjust.works 2 points 15 hours ago

Good point. He deserves at least some positive feelings for that laugh riot. Kinda like the Iraqi Information Minister.

I still can't wait to see Danny DeVito play him in his biopic.

[–] teslekova@sh.itjust.works 1 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

I think Jim Carrey could do a good job too, and matches the physique better... But if you can get DeVito, you go with DeVito. Absolute legend.

You think Jim Carrey matches Rudy Giuliani's physique better than Danny DeVito?

Granted, I haven't seen Jim Carrey lately, so maybe he shrunk and got wider. Now that I think of it I'm not so sure...

[–] teslekova@sh.itjust.works 1 points 13 hours ago

Certainly not his recent physique, but his old one, sure.
