Rules: (interactive)
1) Be nice and; have fun
Doxxing, trolling, sealioning, racism, toxicity and dog-whistling are not welcomed in AskLemmy. Remember what your mother said: if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. In addition, the site-wide Lemmy.world terms of service also apply here. Please familiarize yourself with them

Please do not flood the community with nonsense. Actual suspected spammers will be banned on site. No astroturfing.
4) NSFW is okay, within reason

NSFW comments should be restricted to posts tagged [NSFW].
5) This is not a support community.
It is not a place for 'how do I?', type questions.
If you have any questions regarding the site itself or would like to report a community, please direct them to Lemmy.world Support or email info@lemmy.world. For other questions check our partnered communities list, or use the search function.
6) No US Politics.

Me in the last few weeks. Its majority bots and fake redditors from India nowadays. Every time theres a discussion that is against the billionaires agenda you can watch them flood in to brigade it. Its just not even worth my time anymore.
I hope Lemmy is taking notes and does something to prevent the same happening here.
it does make sense INDIA subs are making the front page quite alot.
Being Scottish and spending time in r/Scotland made this pretty obvious. Scots use language patterns, slang, and colloquialisms that come from Gaelic, Doric or Scots that needs knowledge and experience to interpret. Bots/paid brigaders trip up because they dont understand meaning or context. They are instantly recognisable.
There is 100% a well-funded project to influence political thinking. Mention anything about right-wing politicians, bigotry, lgbtq+ rights, the environment etc. and it triggers some action. They all pile on, thread makes it to 'all', thread gets locked. Rinse and repeat.
Given how spread-out Lemmy is, it'll be pretty hard to screw it in the same way Reddit got screwed, though. Like, if a given instance doesn't like you, or you don't like that given instance, there are plenty of others for you to move to, or you could host your own if you have the hardware and admin skills.
Ahh. Good point. I hope it doesnt happen but I'd be amazed if bots aren't at least scanning lemmy and injesting what is being discussed.
Unfortunately, it's something that should be incredibly easy to do given the nature of the fediverse. Plus they can easily analyze a user's upvote/downvote behaviour over here.
