I had a 16 year old account (from the digg migration) permabanned sitewide by a bot for using the letters "GME" together in a post in r/wallstreetbets. That's when i found this place.
Ask Lemmy
A Fediverse community for open-ended, thought provoking questions
Rules: (interactive)
1) Be nice and; have fun
Doxxing, trolling, sealioning, racism, toxicity and dog-whistling are not welcomed in AskLemmy. Remember what your mother said: if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. In addition, the site-wide Lemmy.world terms of service also apply here. Please familiarize yourself with them
2) All posts must end with a '?'
This is sort of like Jeopardy. Please phrase all post titles in the form of a proper question ending with ?
3) No spam
Please do not flood the community with nonsense. Actual suspected spammers will be banned on site. No astroturfing.
4) NSFW is okay, within reason
Just remember to tag posts with either a content warning or a [NSFW] tag. Overtly sexual posts are not allowed, please direct them to either !asklemmyafterdark@lemmy.world or !asklemmynsfw@lemmynsfw.com.
NSFW comments should be restricted to posts tagged [NSFW].
5) This is not a support community.
It is not a place for 'how do I?', type questions.
If you have any questions regarding the site itself or would like to report a community, please direct them to Lemmy.world Support or email info@lemmy.world. For other questions check our partnered communities list, or use the search function.
6) No US Politics.
Please don't post about current US Politics. If you need to do this, try !politicaldiscussion@lemmy.world or !askusa@discuss.online
Reminder: The terms of service apply here too.

I didn't get banned. I left after the API change. I was already reducing use naturally, and what time I did still spend there was mostly to mod a very small niche hobby sub.
Without the mod tools I used before the API changes, plus the influx of MAGA-bots on reddit as a whole, I could longer mod the sub in a way the community asked for and that I was comfortable with. So I resigned, wished the remaining mods well, and went about my way.
There were other subs trying to go dark and impact reddit's advertising opportunities, and reddit was banning some of the mods doing that sort of thing. I decided even if reddit changed course, I was past the point I could ever come back to it.
Dito, not banned, but left with the API change as well. Still keep RIF on my phone just so that if anyone sends me a redditink I get a 401:forbidden and have to reevauate if I actually give a shit enough to view it in a browser. The actual app is just as bad as ticktok when it comes to nicking every data point that isnt nailed down.
I left for the blackout.
Not banned, left voluntarily. The experience was so shitty I finally just said fuck it and left
I got perma banned because I said Nazis deserve to die.
I said I wanted to kill Andrew Tate
I didn't get banned, I left Reddit voluntarily when they announced that they were going to be increasing censorship on their site a year or so ago.
My reasoning was, 'It's only a matter of time before I *do* get banned for something stupid, so I might as well leave this site on my own while I'm still ahead.'
Nah I was part of the app/api exodus.
Banned just over a year ago due to rump and anti nazi comments with a few fuck Ford’s in there as well.
bailed on the mod purge when they tried to tell mods how to mod their subs.
Not banned but they stopped letting me use bacon reader. so that was a deal breaker
16 years, voluntarily killed my account.
Never got banned but have been on threadiverse since the Apollo killing a few years ago. That was plenty for me to leave that site.
10 years in. Banned for suggesting that Trump’s immigration policy should keep the white trash South Africans out of America and not employed as ICE agents.
I wasn't banned until well after I joined Lemmy
I was "harassing" a climate change denier by @ing them on climate change related news. The dude refused to block me and just kept getting annoyed once or twice a day instead. 10/10 would get banned for antagonizing someone too stupid to use the block button again.
Nice
I don't know. I went back after leaving for ethical etc reasons and my old reddit account was reported suspended, but also doesn't come up in a search at all. I tried to read something on a web page on my computer, to which I've never logged into reddit, and it said something about blocked, and I couldn't even load the search suggestion, that had generated it, found it on another site, anyway. I miss my content, but the site is no loss, it's a bot heavy slow boil to Nazism.
I wasn't banned, but I rolled over after 3rd party apps were taken away on the day they stopped working. I only use the app for it so taking that away made it pretty easy to stop and no i wasnt going to use their own because they forced my hand. Apps were limited on lemmy at that time and had to wait like 4 months before the one i used to use was released, but it was worth it.
Same. I was a Lurker+, reading a lot of content and discussion but only contributing and commenting to a few smaller / local subreddits.
Set up an RSS Feed for sports & my local subreddit (from old.reddit.com) and started using Lemmy in my browser. Now I use Boost. Haven't logged back into reddit since.
It works for my wants.
I also use Boost. Love it and no need to look at any others IMO.
Reddit didn't ban me, I banned them.
You.. I like you!
After Reddit cut off api access to third-party apps, I left. Well, not right away, I did give RedReader a try for a month or so.
Basically the same for me. After they squashed the counter protests I decided "fuck them".
20 year old account with probably 10k karma. Not much by today's standards, but I gave it my best.
Not banned, just fed up.
15 year account, banned for the same anti-Zionism as you.
13 years and like 800,000 points later, 790K of which was from comments, banned for saying that nazis deserve to be dead. Must have hit too close to home for the admins.
I came here after the Reddit API mess but still posted on Reddit.
Got a temporary Reddit ban for a short statement saying Biden was caught genociding, then recently a permanent ban for saying the only way Trump is leaving office is if 100,000 people drag him out. "Inciting violence."
303,000 comment karma, 8,388 post karma, 14+ years.
Going corporate is never good.
I got 'soft banned'.
I had stopped commenting on Reddit back in 2022 after receiving warnings on similar topics. Continued to lurk and scroll. Now reddit has an uncloseable popup on web telling me to use the app. So I don't use reddit.
Banned for using a VPN for “ban evasion” but never had been banned before.
Appealed. No response.
I took that as a fuck off message.
I got banned for saying that nazis used to get punched at punk shows.
Not banned, I just like Communism, FOSS, and decentralization.
Haven't been banned yet, but I avoid politics on Reddit and I rarely post/comment over there ever since the 3rd party app fiasco.
I ditched it when they said you could be banned for upvoting pictures of Mario's brother. I figured it was only a matter of time before I got banned.
