Seriously. Help me understand something.
Why?
Why engage in such lazy thinking? Why accept the vibes over facts, like a MAGA moron?
You could sign up for an affiliate link your self today. Then plaster that link and official Proton marketing graphics all over an environmental extremist site advocating forced sterilization to save the Earth.
Proton didn't "sponsor" that YouTuber any more than YouTube itself did. Why get pissy at one of the few companies offering a pro-consumer alternative to much of the capitalist enshitizine? Why make up shit about a B-Corp, owned by a nonprofit foundation, with a board made entirely of scientists and engineers?
Did you report the channel to YouTube also? Why not? What's worse, using his channel to promote Proton, or using it to promote bigotry? Who's the real bad guy here?
Tell me please! Why attack Proton instead of one of the truly proven bad actors in this space?
Funny to call me a "MAGA moron" when MAGA loves Proton, who, in the past year or so, have said "10 years ago, Republicans were the party of big business and Dems stood for the little guys, but today the tables have completely turned," in response to Trump's second presidency, allowed an obvious OpSec hole to exist in their business model that allowed them to hand Kash Patel info on anti-ICE protesters without any kind of warning, and are now sponsoring self-described Nazis on YouTube.
Literally contradicted by Proton's own words:
I'm pissy over this because I do not like fascists and I don't like the fact that some % of my yearly subscription $ have gone to one.
Have you even seen Proton's comments on the controversy? They're not even remotely sorry, just sorry they got caught.
Please excuse my shitty screenshot:
This is without a doubt the worst possible response to people upset that you sponsored a Nazi. This is the bar saying "why can't we all get along?" in the Nazi Bar analogy.. It's despicable.
ETA: I know we all hate Reddit here but this thread is a pretty good read if you are actually unsure why someone could be upset by this. Includes Proton's responses.
That's not what I did. Read it again.
I asked several why questions. None were "why could someone be upset by this".
Okay yeah my bad.
I thought most of your questions were rhetorical because they were so obvious TBH.
Proton sponsored a far right self-described Nazi YouTuber. This is the fact and is basically the entirety of my original comment. Your questions are just foundationally wrong.
Your bit about "You could sign up for an affiliate link your self today..." is wrong as well and contradicted by Proton's own words about using their brand.
Not made up and appeal to authority. Majority owned, BTW. "Scientists and engineers" are not paragons of ethics, either.
No. I don't watch YouTube, don't want to give them a view, etc., etc. If you actually believe he was promoting bigotry then you should be upset that Proton sponsored him. The only excuse for not being upset is if you don't believe Proton sponsored him, which is objectively wrong; they did. False equivalency. Both can be bad. One can be worse. Does not mean the bad doesn't deserve to be addressed.
No question mark but framed as one. See above. I believe Proton is one of the bad actors here. The CEO's wishy-washy AI responses to community backlash show no remorse. I spend no small amount of money on a service that can be found comparable for free elsewhere because I believe in their stated ethics, to see them act so counter to them and use my money to do so is upsetting to me.
Thank you
