I cackled at it when I made it, glad to see someone else enjoying it too

"You got to understand this, Kim: It's not because you are incompetent, but because you are annoying, your 'problems' go on everybody's nerves and no one likes you. You do understand that, don't you?"

"Yes, Captain. Sorry for asking."

"No worries, Kim. Now off with you on this ~~suicide mission on a hell-like planet~~ mission to find vital supplies."

"Ok." blows up Voyager with Paris and gets back to Earth, where he gets promoted

Anyone else notice this weird phenomenon on Lemmy? I never recall seeing on Reddit, it does not seem relegated to any specific instance or anything, but for some reason nobody here uses that meme format correctly.

It's so frequent that I almost feel like using it wrong has become a lemmy meme unto itself and I'm just out of the loop.

? What do you mean not used correctly?

[–] BleatingZombie@lemmy.world 12 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I belive the text on the bottom two panels should stay the same

[–] xusontha@ls.buckodr.ink 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Oh you're right, I forgot about that haha. Well it still works as a meme

[–] BleatingZombie@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

I completely agree! I still think it's "dank" enough, haha

[–] Piers@beehaw.org 4 points 2 years ago

The last two panels are supposed to be the same text.

Still outranks Seven and Neelix.

[–] xusontha@ls.buckodr.ink 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

but they both "joined" Starfleet in the Delta Quadrant

[–] thepreciousboar@lemm.ee 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Seven only joined the starfleet in Star Trek Picard

[–] xusontha@ls.buckodr.ink 2 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Yeah that's why I said "joined" since she was a crewmember on Voyager but not technically in Starfleet

I think I remember why. It’s because no one is below him to step into ensign. So he doesn’t get promoted till he gets back and then made captain.

[–] Venicon@sopuli.xyz 5 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Yup, the Producers said as much. Something like ‘someone has to be an ensign’.

[–] xusontha@ls.buckodr.ink 5 points 2 years ago

Make people take turns being the ensign

Ensign Janeway and Captain Kim

[–] xusontha@ls.buckodr.ink 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

If Kim is ever promoted the entire universe will cease to exsist

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

He's Captain Harry Kim in STO

[–] xusontha@ls.buckodr.ink 2 points 2 years ago

LIES! DECEPTION!

[–] eva_sieve@startrek.website 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I know they said that in production, and I personally find it funny, but in universe it doesn't make sense. Harry was the head of Voyager's Ops department. Being an upper-decker/bridge crew matters way more in practice than rank on paper. It's not like his department would explode oor even substantively change if he made Lt. JG.

Hell, Tuvok got promoted to Lieutenant commander in the middle of Voyager's flight and nothing weird happened in his department. And the less said about Tom Paris' rank situation the better.

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Promote Kim. Make Paris the ensign, not like he runs a department. He just steers the ship 1/3 of the time.
