Summary

Democrats are grappling with Donald Trump’s decisive victory, which included popular vote support and wins in traditionally Democratic regions.

Analysts suggest that Trump’s appeal lies less in specific policies and more in his embodiment of resentment and populist anger.

While some blame Harris’s choice of running mate, media influence, or Biden’s timing in stepping aside, many argue that Trump’s support reflects a desire for his “tough-guy” rhetoric and promises of “social revenge.”

Despite the potential consequences, Trump’s supporters expect him to hurt others without affecting them.

Trump’s second term will likely bring about the destruction of the rule of law and the expansion of his power, leaving voters to confront the reality of his actions.

They're just gojng to say 'I voted for cheap groceries and gas, not for this!' and absolve themselves of all sin.

[–] Beldarofremulak@lemmy.world 5 points 39 minutes ago

Look. I voted for trump on Nov 5th. It's the 7th now so that's the past and I said I'm sorry. You can't bring up my past decisions and hold them against me. People can grow, learn, and change. You have to forgive and forget and if you don't then you are the problem and need therapy.

It's basic cheater logic

I can't wait to observe the consequences of people's actions.

[–] OldWoodFrame@lemm.ee 1 points 7 minutes ago

"Voters who voted for the winner got what they wanted" uh-huh....

[–] Breve@pawb.social 4 points 1 hour ago

They won't be surprised, they'll just remain angry because they'll be given new scapegoats to blame by the propaganda machine.

I'm looking forward to the young Latino men, Gen Z, and women, especially white women, getting what they voted.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 3 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

Thing is, the qons built a parallel media structure for a reason. As Chomsky said, many of these people have a RIGHT to be angry. It's just that they are angry for the wrong reasons, and angry at the wrong policies and people responsible for those policies.

That parallel media structure's entire purpose is to ensure that the "angry white males" (or whatever demo) is angry for the "right" reasons, and never get any ideas about who is to really be blamed for their misery. So they'll be shown caravans of immigrants headed for the border, scary black on white crime exaggerated out of proportion, told eggs now cost 4x as much because of what the trans did, and so on....

I'm gonna laugh so hard. If we can't have a good country, we can at least have a bad country for all the people who voted it in.

[–] greenfish@lemmy.world 1 points 13 minutes ago

I'm done being a generous citizen. Transactional interactions only for trumpsters going forward.

[–] CosmoNova@lemmy.world 34 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

He tried to get one of his most loyal and closest allies Mike Pence and his family executed in an attemped coup. Just imagine what he's willing to do to his voters to get what he wants.

From my (probably) ignorant European/German viewpoint, don't many Democrats also own Guns? I still believe the average American has very different viewpoints than the average russian (they had to deal with that kind of shit for over 60 years now) and are a lot less apathetic...i'm not entirely sure if trump goes on a "people falling out of windows" spree you guys are just going to accept it and fall over. Granted, i've been moping the last few days probably the same (many of you probably don't realize how influential the U.S. still is), but i don't think it's "Game Over" per se....

So...yeah...there's still a little glimmer of hope, that glimmer being at least 40% of american people...

I cannot wait for the ending of FEMA and hurricane after hurricane slamming the south like a BBC.

The GoFund me for Florida will be glorious.

[–] DBT@lemmy.world 3 points 1 hour ago

I’ve already vowed not to donate to red states/areas anymore. Pick your bitch asses up by the bootstraps next hurricane season, morons.

[–] FatCrab@lemmy.one 18 points 4 hours ago

Couple it with privatizing the national weather service so there will effectively be no warnings, and most of FL is gonna be dead anyhow.

[–] Asafum@feddit.nl 38 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

I hope we all do the same thing, show no sympathy and tell them shut the fuck up you voted for this. He told you what he was going to do.

[–] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 23 points 5 hours ago

This time we'll have all the evidence in the world... plus a 900 page booklet of stuff they were planning to do.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 7 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago) (1 children)

How many times are we going to hear the magabrainz whining that "he's not hurting the people he needs to be hurting, you guys!!!!"

[–] thesohoriots@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago

“I didn’t expect the leopards to eat MY face” says voter who voted for the Face-eating Leopard party (paraphrased).

[–] akilou@sh.itjust.works 72 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

When his policies inevitably hurt them, they'll tell you it was someone else through some form of advanced mental gymnastics.

[–] NewNewAccount@lemmy.world 4 points 2 hours ago

Someone else

Democrats.

[–] ptz@dubvee.org 43 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago) (2 children)

“I voted for him, and he’s the one who’s doing this,” Minton told Mazzei. “I thought he was going to do good things. He’s not hurting the people he needs to be hurting.”

-- 2019, Crystal Minton, a secretary at the prison who is also a single mother caring for disabled parents

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 16 points 3 hours ago (2 children)

I still find it so fucked up that people vote specifically to harm other people.

[–] TurnpikeRangers@lemmy.world 5 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Fucking right?! That's why you voted for someone?? Because they're going to enact revenge?! And revenge for fucking what? What the fuck did Democrats do to you to make you decide that revenge is worth the destruction of your country?

How do we make sense of the senseless? How do we come out of this? Legitimately, is there anything that will stop him from canceling the 2028 election or removing the 22nd Amendment?

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 4 points 1 hour ago

Yeah, it's crazy. As a general rule, Democrats/liberals, including myself, want everyone to have a good life, including a job with dignity, a good work/life balance, a rounded and truly liberal education, healthcare, clean air, clean water. I even want that for these redhats.

And how do they react? They want to see the world burn and their perceived "enemies" tortured/killed.

[–] ptz@dubvee.org 10 points 3 hours ago

And so called "Christians" at that. 😤

[–] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 8 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

How much you want to bet she voted for Trump again this election.

It's going to be fun watching medicaid get gutted.

Democrat voters supporting their party hard shift to the right got what they deserved.

They can't expect to win elections if they continually ignore the needs of voters.

[–] kandoh@reddthat.com 3 points 52 minutes ago

Because now democrats being too conservative won't be an issue?

The lesson people will take away from this is that LGBTQ and especially trans rights are a losing issue with voters. It will be that women's needs should be considered only if they don't disturb men's privileges.

There isn't going to be a left-wing realignment. Leftists just took a fatal hit, they just don't realize it yet.

[–] SGforce@lemmy.ca 26 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

They won't even fucking notice.

[–] Nyciferi@kbin.melroy.org 19 points 5 hours ago

They won't even care. Anything at all to "own the libs".

[–] SayJess@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 5 hours ago

Worse, they’ll donate to him for the pleasure of being stepped upon.

[–] imPastaSyndrome@lemm.ee 15 points 6 hours ago

Good. Suffer and die.

We'll rebuild from those ashes should we get the chance to

[–] xc2215x@lemmy.world 3 points 5 hours ago

That is their choice to make.
