With Mangione's action having the "capability to inspire a variety of extremists and grievance-driven malicious actors to violence," the NYPD encouraged companies to increase precautions and security for executives.

Isn't this straight up saying that Mangione is the assassin? Obviously innocent until proven guilty has always been bullshit, but where's the bare minimum "alleged" at?

[–] RubberElectrons@lemmy.world 48 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Psh, those low quality NYPD shitrags never gave a fuck about integrity. The uniform is just a costume.

[–] Zombiepirate@lemmy.world 39 points 2 weeks ago

The whole idea of parading suspects in front of the media is a mockery of the principle.

Fuck the NYPD.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 23 points 2 weeks ago

That does seem rather reckless of ABC News.

I tried looking through how to email them to request a correction but it looks like you have to download their app just to contact them.

Extremely gross that they're putting this much effort into protecting only the rich, But completely unsurprising. I don't understand why SO MANY Americans are just completely accepting of this obvious favoritism.

[–] skuzz@discuss.tchncs.de 9 points 2 weeks ago

Police have only ever protected the rich. That was why they were created. Check out all the union-busting they were involved in on behalf of Henry Ford, among others. The Dollop has a few good episodes on the topic.

"UnitedHealthcare killed everyday people for the sake of profit. As a result Brian Thompson was denied his claim to life. Who will be denied next?"

You guys in the USA are starting to sound like France 1789

[–] IDKWhatUsernametoPutHereLolol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 44 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Far from it. France deposed their tyant, USA installed a tyrant.

We basically need to depose [Name Redacted] just like France did in 1789

[–] PyroNeurosis@lemmy.blahaj.zone 15 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Lets be real, France didn't have a great track record of picking winning leaders.

So in our store-brand French revolution, we're probably gonna go through quite a few Robespierres.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 15 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

I keep pointing out that it took 15 years from France getting rid of a king to giving the exact same powers to an emperor.

People seem to think the guillotines came out and everyone's problems were solved. Just like they seem to think if a few CEOs get assassinated, corporations will put people over profits.

[–] BeMoreCareful@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Truth, but you gotta start somewhere.

[–] WoodScientist@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Who's gonna be our crazy guy in a bathtub demanding the execution of scores of enemies?

[–] Bronzebeard@lemm.ee 38 points 2 weeks ago

US Wealth disparity is already worse than 1789 France, here.

[–] UntitledQuitting@reddthat.com 59 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

seems like we're all out of bread and circuses

[–] UltraGiGaGigantic@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 weeks ago

Breadflation

[–] hemmes@lemmy.world 50 points 2 weeks ago

Whelp, looks like the whole private healthcare business is just too much for corporations to deal with properly. Maybe the government should step in and take care of it from now on?

[–] beansbeansbeans@lemmy.world 48 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Perhaps they should all reflect on why these lists are popping up.

Protecting the ruling class

"Delay, Deny, Depose" is the new "Fuck Around, Find Out"

[–] taiyang@lemmy.world 17 points 2 weeks ago

You know what'd be more dangerous would be to spread 3D printing info and other useful tips we as a society may have learned from this whole manhunt info dump. Just saying, of course (I don't even own a 3d printer, officer!)
