Trae is better than melo

[–] IntroductionNearby71@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

prime melo is barely better than prime derozan, casuals will hate to hear it but thats just facts

[–] GoldBlueSkyLight@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Nah DeRozan fell off in the postseason way harder than any other superstar

[–] antipistonsandsixers@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Whats the problem with prime DeRozan? He is 3x all NBA.

[–] IntroductionNearby71@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

nothing at all, he's one of my favorite players of all time

[–] Fit-Strawberry459@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (3 children)

None of Lillard, Tatum, current KD, current LeBron, Booker, Shai, Butler are better than prime Melo. He would be exactly at that Lillard-Tatum-Butler-AD level, right below the top players.

[–] JimmyMcBuckets22@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

He's a bigger Booker. Neither were/are particularly effective defenders, Are better scorers than creators, and should not be the best player on their own team -- which is a tough ask because those guys are legit all-NBA players.

What did Melo do better than Tatum?

[–] Separate_Baker1895@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Zion? SGA? Better than Melo ?

ARE YOU DUMB?

[–] No-Test6484@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I don’t think right now. But as a player if I had to choose to start a franchise I am definitely taking SGA over melo. If Zion is healthy him too. Melo doesn’t play winning basketball and has an ego problem.

[–] OUEngineer17@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

SGA is better. Melo never made 1st team.

[–] junkit33@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Peak Melo was better than all of current Lillard, SGA, Butler, and Booker.

[–] Piss_Sage@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

No he wasn’t. SGA maybe but when it’s all said and done Melo won’t be considered better. Probably the same with booker.

Lillard is way more efficient and Jimmy has done way more with way less. Melo beating the 2023 Bucks in the first round would be his greatest achievement lmfao.

Round about the same level as DBook seems right, both great scorers who don't offer that much outside of scoring (and need better lead playmakers and defenders around them for a contender), but who aren't as bad at passing or defending than people make out

[–] graphitewolf@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Book has a bigger bag both defensively and as a playmaker

[–] TheRealRemyClayden@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Probably true but I still think they're fairly similar

[–] LegoTomSkippy@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Agree.

Lillard can drive an elite offense. Not sure about Melo (was it him or D’Antoni?).

Booker seems to fit much better alongside other high level players, has more play-making, and isn’t terrible on defense.

[–] herseyhawkins33@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

You can't even remember who coached melo's best Knicks team

[–] EmergencyNail3862@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Here to remind everyone that Tatum has done nothing to prove he’s better than Jimmy thank you

[–] iabeytorm@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I need the 15 year olds to stop talking about melo it’s embarrassing to read

[–] thelunarunit@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

He is hard to rate. If I am going honestly on ability, top 5. His issue however was his shot selection. So if I wanted to win games would rank him 14. Carmelo's issues were always how he approached the game. If you listened to interviews of stars at the time and he came up often as the guy they least liked to guard.

Coming into the league Carmelo was way ahead of lebron skill wise, yet now lebron is #1/#2 all time and carmelo is way down in the weeds. It's to bad he didn't get drafted by the pistons, larry brown may have been able to fix his problems.

[–] spellman1969@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Prime Melo in todays NBA is a top 5 player, definitely better than old man Lebron

[–] Hibachi-Flamethrower@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Most of those guys are NOT “definitely better than Melo”.

[–] herseyhawkins33@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

The classic "how many players in melo's range can I add and put him at the end by default"

[–] Wavepops@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

zion is not better than melo when healthy lol. Prime melo would be in the 10-15 range

[–] AllenOneal37@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

This is list is probably based on stats. Thats fine but as prime prospects in a draft you don't take half of these people over Melo.

[–] JoJonesy@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Definitely don’t think Shai, Booker, or Dame are unambiguously better than prime Melo. Not sure about current LeBron either. Probably would put him in the back half of the top 10

[–] RVAIsTheGreatest@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Prime Melo would feast in this era and was an elite scorer. He'd be top 10. His scoring would absolutely put him ahead of Booker, SGA. I think I'd edge him over AD too unless AD's shooting is really back. I'd put him ahead of Butler overall...regular season wise? Melo would be ahead. So somewhere in the 8-10 range.

[–] k-seph_from_deficit@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

When Carmelo led the league in scoring in 2012-13 (28.5), 9 players had more than 20 points, 4 more than 25 and obviously 0 more than 30.

The next 3 after Carmela on the list were multiple time FMVPs each. (Kobe, Lebron and KD)

The top 7 of the 8 after Carmelo who scored 20+ that year all either MVPs or FMVPs (Kobe, Lebron, KD, Harden, Curry, Westbrook, Wade).

In the last season, 43 people scored more than 20 points, 13 more than 25 and 6 more than 30.

Basically close to 5 times the number of 20+ scorers, 2.6 times more than 25 compared to Carmelo’s peak.

Wherever you rank Carmelo, that context is important to keep in mind. Carmelo was a consistent 25+ ppg scorer in an era where the only other guys who did that were Lebron, KD and Kobe level guys.

Carmelo is nowhere close to as good as them overall but as a pure versatile scorer, even they rank Carmelo as among the very best.

Around top 15.

[–] electricHats75@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Is Jimmy better than Melo?

[–] electricHats75@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

SGA? Ain’t even made the playoffs leading a team. Melo didn’t miss the playoffs until he was old

[–] izzazzezz@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Dunno why yall stay trying to disrespect Melo but it's weird
