Basically the title. Replace Murray with Trae. Contracts stay the same. Are the Nuggets better or worse now? I’m talking about Trae Young of the Atlanta Hawks by the way

Better dipshit

[–] Whofreak@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Worse. Trae is probably more talented, but he doesn't bring what the Nuggets need. Murray is better off-ball and is a better fit with Jokic.

[–] ajteitel@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

So long as Trae can accept the secondary role, Trae

[–] RROORRYY@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (4 children)

I'd say worse because Murray is better fit with Jokic and it's not like he is much worse than Trae anyway

[–] RatLord445@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

hell no lol

[–] Solid-Confidence-966@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (3 children)

You don’t think Trae you replicate the same success as Murray if he was conditioned to play how Murray does?

[–] samueladams6@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)
[–] MVPiid@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (3 children)

Jamal Murray ain’t doing much on that end either

[–] LogDogan4@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Not at all true. But I don't expect a 76ers fan to actually be able to identify real defense.

[–] secretsodapop@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It's still better than Trae. There are a lot of really bad defenders who are still better than Trae.

[–] nicefellow_@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

he did a job at points during the playoffs, and it was largely thanks to his matchip comparative size/physicality. there are levels to bad defense, and jamal murray vs trae young is probably the perfect example of that

Not nearly as good at diving to the basket, and Jokic finding cutters is a big part of Denver’s gameplan

Trae is much better. Trae with MPJ, AG and Jokic around him would be much more efficient and would play the non Jokic minutes way better than Murray. Murray is a top 25 guy, Trae is a top 15-17 guy

[–] Thebeavs3@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Trae can’t stop a varsity pg, he doesn’t fit in as a cutter cuz dude doesn’t finish in among trees well and he just all around plays in that heliocentric style that doesn’t produce winning when it counts

Why is Murray a better fit with Jokic?

[–] samueladams6@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Significantly better on defense, actually plays off ball on offense.

DEN wouldn't do it, because Trae doesn't fit their profile. #1 is size at the position.

[–] Milkboy1516@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

About the same. Better on offense, you could have way more success staggering units, and he still works with Jokic. Defensively, Murray's 6'4" and bulky while Trae's a 6'1" towel. They lose the switching the schemes probably much worse and now their size that was a strength looks like 3 targets who start.

[–] tagprobablylag@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

They’re better with Murray no matter how much Reddit hates it

[–] MrCatFace13@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (5 children)

Worse. Much worse.

Murray is a better defender, has a better attitude, gels better with his team, isn't as ball dominant, and his face doesn't annoy me.

[–] strillanitis@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

You’re right the most important metric in player evaluation, you’re personal emotional relation to the player in question.

[–] Frequent-Cap4953@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Jokic already trash on defense, adding in Trae is a recipe for disaster

[–] Bruhbs09@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Is that the same guy AD coudnt score ?

[–] drmr623@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

??? Ad did not have a problem scoring on Jokic that series.

[–] Bolthead44@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

You perfectly expressed what I didn’t know I was thinking.

Specifically in that system, Trae would be worse simply because he hasn’t shown the ability to move without the ball.

Maybe with Jokic that would change but we haven’t seen him do it, and can only speculate.

But if i’m picking one player to start a franchise, it’s Trae no question for me.

[–] DJBabyB0kCh0y@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

If I'm a franchise owner and I have to build around Trae Young I'm cashing out

[–] _coed_@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

As opposed to Jamal Murray lol

if murrays the best player on your team you’re fighting for 13th seeds

[–] hurrakane212@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago
[–] HaliburtonGOAT@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago
[–] isaacz321@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (4 children)

I think worse but not as much as most of this thread. Trae makes the non jokic minutes which has been a problem every year for denver much better. Murray is a great playoff performer and fit with jokic but he can’t carry 2nd units by himself

[–] Vegetable-Tooth8463@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Okay bro, I have to ask- why the Doc Rivers flair?

They get better, imagine Trae Young not having to worry about facilitating the offense and instead focusing almost solely on scoring. That pick and roll would be deadly as well lol

[–] SnooChipmunks4208@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Jamal Murray will get the widespread credit he deserves next season. This will be his first prime healthy season, and this question will be easily put to bed.

[–] LTSpiceIsNice@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

this is fucking stupid, trae gets way more slander when he was the first option on a team that went to the ECF. i think murray is great, but Trae is a literal first option player for a reason.

[–] CIark@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

So much worze

[–] TatumTopFye@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Worse, because I don’t want the ball out of Jokic’s hands.

This question makes me mad at how stupid it is

[–] bloodmuffins793@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

So much worse

[–] HotspurJr@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (17 children)

Much worse, unless you hypothesize that Trae become a player we've only seen in short spurts in his entire career: a guy who is locked in on defense and plays hard after he passes the ball.

Trae is really really good with the ball in his hands. He, for his career, has been largely mediocre when it's not in his hands, on both sides of the floor.

With Jokic you don't really want the ball in Trae's hands.

In the past couple years, Trae Young's has put up elite and incredible regular season stats and they dwarfs those of Murrays.

But when it mattered most (the playoffs) Murray's stats have likewise been elite:

2020 - ppg 26.5 ast 6.6 tov 2.8 on .626 TS

2023 - ppg 26.1 ast 7.1 tov 2.5 on .586 TS

That's arguably a top 3 playoff performance by a secondary star in the past decade++.

[–] FultonHomes@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

stays the same

[–] Markel100@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Do jokic and trae have the chemistry of jokic and murray if yes better but if its a situation where trae and jokic never played together worse

[–] Low-iq-haikou@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I would say worse bc he is an abusable defender, and as it stands Denver doesn’t really have someone on that end who is a clear target for defenses.

Also bc Murray is much better at diving to the rim and finishing, and Denver’s offense utilizes a lot of off-ball cutting.

[–] agk927@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Easily worse. Trae Young provides 0 defense

[–] Thebeavs3@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Worse, not only has Murray built up an amazing chemistry with jokic on offense that is bigger than either of them and probably up there with Stockton Malone as the best two pnr duos ever. But he also is an actual competent defender of both point and shooting guards and can switch comfortably on most forwards or at least as comfortable as any other point gaurd is. That’s the nuggets whole gaurd philosophy: 3 point shooters who can gaurd forwards and bigger guards due to their size, it’s why KCP and Bruce brown were so key Bc both can do those things.

[–] runevault@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

As the first option on a team Trae is probably better. As the second option on the Nuggets give me Murray every time. There is 0 guarantee Jokic has the same chemistry with Trae he does with Murray. Plus as others said Booth would not want a smaller player, one of the nuggets biggest advantages is being above average size wise at every position except MAYBE pointguard, but at least Murray is not undersized like Trae.
