I set a 4 year reminder for this post so I could look back at the replies in the future.

I just recently got the notification and figured that others here would want to see how things turned out. It obviously goes to show how uncertain things are in the league, but also not to get too down on young prospects who have a down year, because there's always a possibility that they will improve.

It's unreal how many careers Puke Walton fucked up.

[–] SubstantialCreme7748@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Hield hasn't played a single playoff game.....how do you pull that off in today's league?

[–] LogDogan4@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

By happening to play for bad teams.

[–] CommonerChaos@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

We're gonna change that this year. (even if it's via a trade)

[–] tiofrodo@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

That is a good idea for a thread, who is some of the best players that never made a playoff.

[–] FallenLemur@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Wiltabdulolajuwan uses future sight

[–] Allcreatives@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

2 x All-Star 3 ECF appearances 1 Finals appearances BIG MONEY

[–] archerarcher0@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

2nd team all nba probably biggest achievement over all of this individually

[–] SnooHedgehogs8897@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

He’s been to the ECF 5 times in his 7 year career. Only missed in 2019 and 2021.

[–] _Midas_Touch@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Jaylen Brown and it is not even close.

[–] JAhoops@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (3 children)

What did people see in buddy

[–] s_s@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

They are loud and don't know anything about basketball.

[–] Astro_Sloth@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Big like Klay, shoots like Steph, wym?

[–] nikop@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (4 children)

That draft class has turned out great even with the runaway best prospect somehow regressing into a fringe NBA player.

[–] Solid-Confidence-966@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Calling Ben Simmons a fringe NBA player is disrespectful, at worse he’s a rotation player on a contender

[–] nikop@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Not if he plays like he has the last two years

[–] hotpocketthrowaway@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (5 children)

Lmao major back surgery equals "somehow regressed" because it's a player this sub doesn't like

[–] Timoteo-Tito64@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

The Simmons hate is ridiculous on this sub. Give the guy a chance to come back, he was a genuine star before injuries

[–] nikop@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'm rooting for him but that "major back surgery" excuse has a shelf life and Simmons sure as fuck sounded confident going into last season when he showed on JJ Redick's podcast to hype himself up.

[–] Laggo@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Excuse? "major back surgery" in quotations like all back surgeries aren't a real issue. jesus

[–] fattymaggo@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

So many people on here think his injuries and surgeries are somehow fabricated when you start talking to them. The media surrounding NBA has done a really poor job talking about just how serious the injury and surgery were.

[–] snafudotjpeg@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

yeah he’s gonna be great this year. He’s been moving great in preseason and is playing aggressively. I think if he’s healthy the Nets have a solid shot at being a 4-6 seed.

[–] nighthawk252@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Idk when r nba is going to be ready to discuss this, but the fact that Simmons has been dogshit since he missed time for the back injury is evidence that the injury was real and severe

[–] LmBkUYDA@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I still think he got it from playing video games while skipping out on his team.

I mean he regressed in historic fashion from his peak play, especially considering his tools and perceived ceiling. It’s not like he regressed when he hit 32 either, dude fell off the face of the planet after that souls crushing Hawks series when he was 25.

[–] sexualramen@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Yeah, it's crazy. All of:

  • Brandon Ingram
  • Jaylen Brown
  • Jamal Murray
  • Domantas Sabonis
  • Dejounte Murray
  • Pascal Siakam

didn't even reach 10ppg their rookie years. Even ROTY winner Brogdon only had 10.2 PPG, which is probably the lowest PPG for a ROTY winner in at least the last 38 years. Super rough start for the draft.

[–] sneedmode@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

great

There’s 1 player in that entire draft who’s broken 25 ppg btw.

[–] n0th1ng10@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (3 children)

It’s closer than ppl might say. Put buddy in Boston instead and they won’t be much worse if at all, especially this year. Brown isn’t Murray or anything or even a guy like Brunson. He really benefits from the opportunity in Boston where he gets to shoot shots like a first option (tied with Tatum in fga per game last year and shot more per game in the ecf) and have no playmaking burden. In every single playoff year, Boston has been better with him off the floor statistically. His decision making hurts them tremendously. He’s a good scorer, that doesn’t mean he’s a good player. Also isn’t anything great defensively. He can score yes but that doesn’t mean it’s impactful. They had a better net rating when it was just Tatum on the floor than when both brown and when Tatum were on the floor, and were worst when it was just brown.

[–] unearthlysquire@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You just outed yourself homie. Next time just say you don’t know ball at all and move along.

[–] n0th1ng10@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Not exactly I just watch basketball. Watch every single Boston playoff game. If brown was any kind of good player he wouldn’t have been outplayed by Caleb Martin for 7 straight games in the ecf. Why do u think Boston went and got kp and Jrue? Bc brown can’t handle leading a second unit.

[–] HighsenbergHat@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Buddy plz go

[–] Steko@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

JB is kind of weird, you watch him and he passes the eyetest as a star but a lot of impact stats have him as like the 5th-8th best Celt the past few years, which is rarely the case with stars of his age (although LaVine has a similar issue).

They both signed extensions at the same time, which is why they were compared. At the time, it was pretty clear that Brown was better, but a reasonable discussion is who was the better asset after their respective contracts were signed.

[–] trelos6@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)
[–] dearmet@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Yeah, he nailed it even if it wasn't a direct answer. At the time, Jaylen had more upside due the age difference and being a wing who could slash and defend, therefore adding a potential playmaking/3 game, with Buddy Hield he was kind of capped with the Klay comparisons at his ceiling, great off-ball player and capable on the defensive end.

[–] zazenpan@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Brown has always been better

[–] cbtballers@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I know he was a really old rookie but the fact that Buddy Hield is 30 now is still so insane to me

[–] AirplaineStuff102@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Stop making me remember I am old damn you.

[–] CatM3mes@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Bitch what this whole time i thought this man was like 20

[–] JoJonesy@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I don't have anything to say about Jaylen that hasn't already been said, but tbh I've also been disappointed by Buddy Hield's career over the last few years. Not that he's a bad player at all, it's just... after that season in Sac a few years ago, I really thought he was gonna be an All-Star and the league's next great shooter. I knew he was 26 but I really thought another step up was coming

[–] IHateYouKids@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

He's a terrible player and a worse teammate.

[–] Forkmealready@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

What the fuck do you mean that you thought others would want to see how things turned out? Lmao

[–] ATHF666@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Guys please stop talking about Jaylen Brown. He’s so mediocre it’s crazy.

[–] polyvalent@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

But who has the most total points from the 2016 draft?

Buddy

[–] josefjohann@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I love these. Thank you for setting the reminder and posting.

[–] Son_of_Atreus@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Lol, looking back at that post I had upvoted all the bro JB posts.

[–] Latter-News-2851@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

The way this subreddit goes I actually thought someone was asking that question today in 2023

[–] OlivandersPlayhouse@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

2019? There's no way this was an actual thought anyone had even then right? Jaylen was superior for sure by then and still had more to unlock which was clear.

While Buddy had absolutely already hit his ceiling.

[–] darthpaul@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

This post was days before the 2019-2020 season. Jaylen took a big leap that year and a bigger one the year after.
