This got me thinking the other day, and since off-season is coming to an end soon, I might as well ask.

After some thought, offensive minded guards who are not great defensively like Trae, Lillard, Curry etc, would be the worst at guarding themselves imo.

The best at guarding themselves in game would be great two-way wings and centers imo.

Best at guarding themselves would be the defensive stars with no offensive bag (ie Gobert, Draymond)

[–] Pristine-Internet106@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Idk thinking more about it Trae is one of the few people Trae wouldn't get bodied by and with the quickness to match. Could be interesting tbh

Dame vs Dame and Curry vs Curry would be awesome to watch because it would just be unstoppable offense. Where as Gobert (not really a star) vs Gobert would be horrible. Consistently locked down, his best bet would be to try and make a 3 despite not being good at that.

Gobert vs Gobert ends 0-0

Maybe someone makes a FT

[–] musicnothing@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Mitchell cooks Mitchell too

[–] sock_in_a_cock@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (3 children)

Trae would get wrung like a towel

[–] BetweenCoffeeNSleep@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Trae would put 80 on Trae.

[–] Maverick_1991@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Which star guard wouldn't?

But yeah Trae is up there.

[–] Additional-Read5926@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Jrue would clamp Jrue

[–] CurrentJoke579@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

SGA would make life difficult for SGA.

[–] MediocreTake@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Idk I’m always betting on Trae in that situation

[–] Wes_119@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (3 children)

ben vs ben will never reach the final score

[–] nekomoo@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

JJJ would foul out twice as fast guarding himself due to combination of offensive and defensive fouls.

[–] Askesl@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I'm genuinely not sure if you mean Simmons or Wallace. It applies to both tbh.

[–] Wondering_Nova@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I haven’t watched any Nets games this pre-season. Has his defense looked elite still or is his timing still of a little

[–] IHateYouKids@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Dennis Rodman

Allen Iverson

[–] Kileni@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Old school but Jordan was a super competitive and athletic defender.

[–] Klongon@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It's 30 years later and that's exactly where my head went instantly. I still actively pay attention to NBA basketball, but no one sprang to mind first. Then I thought Shaq vs. Shaq. Then Paul George.

[–] Dirty0ldMan@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It would easily be the most entertaining of all these options. 89 Jordan vs himself would be straight electric.

LeBron is the perfect LeBron stopper

[–] honestnbafan@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Current LeBron is a lot better offensively than defensively though

Still c

[–] Maverick_1991@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

LeBron is the perfrct Lebron stopper, but I don't think he would ever have been able to stop himself.

Maybe 12/13 Lebron vs rookie or current Lebron

Depending on your definition of star, Gobert has the worst offensive skillset while possessing the best defensive skillset, so he'd be pretty good 1v1 mirror matchup. The most troublesome could be Kyrie or Luka, some really crafty offensive savant that mimics a traffic cone on defense.

[–] Askesl@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Andre Roberson would never come close to scoring

[–] Dirty0ldMan@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Bit of a stretch calling him a star player.

[–] Askesl@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I missed that it had to be a star player

[–] Carne_Asada_Friez@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Kendrick Perkins vs Kendrick Perkins would be hilarious

[–] Regular_Barracuda221@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Made me think of Space Jam when Charles Barkley lost all his skill

[–] Horns009@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Anthony Edwards vs Anthony Edwards would just be insane

dunks, threes, steals, blocks

sign me up

[–] nickkerrr69@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Kawhi/Paul George

Also Pat Bev lol

[–] CupOfHotTeaa@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

If you give Giannis a month to train with Giannis he’d become the most skilled iso player

[–] SeanKilpatrickFan@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

That's some 2100s technology lmao - have a robot mimic a player's tendencies

[–] jotyma5@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Kyrie Luka trey would have a lot of trouble

[–] antipistonsandsixers@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I think Joel Embiid could easily lock down Joel Embiid in the Playoffs.

[–] Substantial_Pen_8409@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Rudy Gobert would lock down Rudy Gobert

[–] Weltal327@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Ja blowing by himself but then getting blocked from behind by Ja would be an amazing sequence.

[–] pokerScrub4eva@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I dont consider them a star but for some reason they won DPOY so I am going with Marcus Smart. He is bad offensively but great defensively. He is dirty as fuck but the refs seem to give him a pass so he would probably get a few nut shots in on himself.

[–] sequence_killer@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

If you consider gobert a star he’d have the easiest time ever guarding his trash offense.

[–] UnderestimatedIguana@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

JT is definitely up there

[–] pastasala@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Tony allen would absolutely lock himself up

[–] Folk-Herro@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Westbrook vs Westbrook has to be full court 1V1. Will be the most exciting, chaotic game ever

[–] TeTrodoToxin4@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Harden vs Harden would have so much offensive and defensive foul baiting it would be hilarious.

After each shot both would be on the ground and start talking to the official when they got up.

[–] Rithgarth@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Giannis guarding Giannis would be pretty awesome

[–] Murky_Low6667@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Both Lebrons would flop in an eternal loop

[–] HighlandHilltopper@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Bam would hold bam to under 8ppg

[–] Low-iq-haikou@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Even if they’re not playing with a dribble count, I’m not sure if Matisse Thybulle could get past 3 dribbles

[–] BurcoPresentsHisAcc@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Dray vs Dray would be absolutely horrible to watch, and at the same time awesome because we know Dray is locking himself tf up.

[–] phd2k1@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Literally any player who is better at defense than offense.

That said, I believe Mikal Bridges’ could put up some points on Mikal Bridges with his improved scoring ability.

[–] 9jajajaj9@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Gobert would never score on himself

Trae would never get a stop on himself

[–] WanAjin@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

AD could probably defend himself pretty well.
