I mean objectively they could’ve pretty much had any player that was available for trade this off season and ended up doing absolutely nothing I don’t understand what was Pat Riley’s thought process genuinely

WTF do you mean "they could have had any player that was available for trade this off season??" With what assets? Aside from moving their identity in Bam and Jimmy, they tried everything they could. And Josh Richardson 100% makes their team better.

The heat got worse unless RJ Hampton plays like a better version than he did in April 2021

The Mavs are going to waste another year of Luka. Hope I’m wrong but they STILL don’t have a legitimate established center on the roster with Luka despite that being a blatant obvious need the entire time. Lively can be good but he’s a rookie so he’s gonna take his lumps. Going into this season with Powell as the backup center is inexcusable.

They picked up some decent role players in Curry and Exum, but it just looks another season where they’re undersized and going to get bodied in the paint with Luka getting beat up trying to do too much. Really hope Josh Green and Jaden Hardy go nuclear this year.

They are having an all-time bad off-season after making the Finals. It’s quite impressive.

[–] codars@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Their salary cap situation and cap hits for the players they were willing to trade are what held them back in the offseason. They had a ton of limitations and not a lot of leverage.

His thought process is that ownership won’t let him go deep into the tax so trading cheap long term assets for expensive short ones is way too risky and could completely handicap them.

By all accounts it doesn’t seem as if the heat were ever really true players for most of these star trades.

It was Beal and Lillard who tried forcing their way to Miami, not the other way around.

[–] Fast_Stick_1593@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Beal said himself he was never trying to go to Miami.

That was Wiz front office trying to get a package for him. He has a NTC, he got to choose where he wanted to go.

[–] lolvalue@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

That's just incorrect from the last report. But I did read that initially, so who knows what is right on this.

[–] Final-Luck-4222@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Lol. I visited the heat sub in the morning to see what all is there on it. The narrative there is that Beal wanted to go but he didn't want to drop his NTC and Riley didn't want the NTC.

[–] Fast_Stick_1593@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Ahh yes almighty Pat can do no wrong lol

[–] nikop@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Beal wanted to go to Miami and thought he was going there but the Heat never really made an offer so he ended up agreeing to Phoenix.

[–] Fast_Stick_1593@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Nope, not true. He thought Wiz were gonna trade him to Miami so he veto’d it and said he wanted Phoenix. Wiz and Miami talks had gone to a stand still on a trade because Miami were hesitant to give up certain players and kept trying to offload Lowry and Robinson as part of the package.

That’s when Ishiba jumped in and said they HAD to get Beal and put it to James Jones to get it done.

Beal specifically got to choose what was added and not added to the trade with Phoenix since he requested directly to go there. Hence why he took Jordan Goodwin with him as well.

I think Morey will lose his job mainly because his lack of work this off season.

[–] ColonelWKurtz@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Not really. They missed out on two names that carry massive contracts. Dame would’ve been great but Beal wouldn’t moved the needle in my opinion.

Heat to the finals confirmed

[–] Giannis1995@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

No. Riley most likely thinks he can get either KD or Embiid by summer 2024. I don't think he can pull it but I think this is why he didn't want to pull the trigger now for Dame or Beal.

the "we gonna be unstoppable uniting with Jimmy Butler" problem

[–] AyyDelta@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Trust me, I would not trade this past off season for the Hornet's.

[–] SeedOilsRGood4U@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They literally went to the NBA finals

So no

[–] n0th1ng10@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Their rivals in the east got much much better. They got worse this past offseason, losing two starters who were key shot makers for them. If max Strus doesn’t hit 7 3s in that play in game, they miss the playoffs.

[–] Firm_Squish1@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Could they have had anyone available for trade? Didn’t really seem that way to me.

The Heat are fine.

They have a contending team already, there's not much point in going for big moves unless your biggest star threatens to leave (Hi, Bucks).

[–] junker359@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I don't want to puff up Strus ans Vincent or anything, but they did let them the two of them go without getting anything back for either. Those guys aren't all stars, but they were pretty important last season.

Riley has had such a good run that it feels like every move is rationalized into genius. The Heat were an okay regular season team last year and had a good, but a little flukey run through the playoffs. They had an average scoring margin of about +4 per game in the east playoffs sustained in part by shooting that was a little lucky. Good, but not dominant.

It really seems like they let key guys go because they were lining up for a big trade that never came. They're returning a team that is at best neutral relative to the one they had last year in the regular season. Does Herro coming back make up for the guys they lost? Maybe! But it does feel like they aren't showing any kind of urgency to maximize what's left of Butler's prime. Riley seems to prefer the churn and not mortgaging the future too much, but that may bite them at some point.

[–] Aggravating_Plant_39@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They weren't important at all they're easily replaceable.

[–] junker359@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

You would not have made the finals last year if they hadn't shot like crazy lol.

[–] Salman1969@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

They shot badly during the regular season. The previous season they were #1 in 3 pointers. They just went back to their normal in the playoffs.

Celtics fans and making excuses when they lose to the Heat is a common theme.

[–] shanmustafa@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

they lose two rotation pieces in Strus and Gabe

Jimmy, Bam, Lowry, Caleb, Duncan, and Love are all still there, and Herro coming back

they added Bryant who's a good RS innings eater, and Josh is solid, they're going to rely more on Highsmith and Jovic, and give Jaquez a chance

to me, they seem about as good as last year, so no, and they still have their assets

[–] bravof1ve@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

They should’ve just put everything on the table for Lillard. They were being needlessly stingy and got burned.

It’s not like they would’ve needed to give up Adebayo. They were just hoarding assets that come playoff time won’t make a difference anyways. It was a matter of ego
