Then pay money according to games played. Half the money guaranteed, half the money paid according to games played. Why should Kawhi get the full salary like Westbrook when Westbrook plays every game? Distribute part of Kawhi's money to the guys who play. Westbrook gets less money for playing way more.

It really has gotten to this point. I used to support load management, as I’m pretty much pro-player is all aspects of the game, but it doesn’t really seem to be helping injuries at all. In fact, I think the inconsistency might be leading to more.

[–] Gristle__McThornbody@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Didn't Larry Johnson play with a broken back?

[–] ASithLordNoAffect@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Does he not know it's the teams that are doing the load management, for the most part?

Bad take by Barkley. It doesn't matter if they're making 50 or 60 million, it doesn't make them immune to injuries. Forcing the players to play fails to address the core issue (too many games/minutes).

[–] TheAnon13@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Barkley literally said in the video “if you’re injured don’t play”. The nba has had 82 games for years and load management is only now becoming a problem

[–] Iceraptor17@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Because like anything else, new techniques are applied over time. Pro sports wasn't as gamed in the past as it is today.

The fact is simple, a game in April means a lot more than a game in January. So teams are load managing guys. Players could force the issue...but why would they? They also want to win a chip more than win a random game in Detroit in December.

It sucks for fans, but that's the incentive the NBA gives.

i mean when you put it like that, yea

Man here spittin facts

NBA Trivia time

[–] ab_ence@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I personally can’t stand Barkley anymore, it’s a shame

[–] THUGNs_on_Mars@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Players would rather duck the smoke and sit out then play when not at a 100% to avoid criticism. Still can’t get over Embid sitting out during last years MVP race.

Anybody that thinks a star player like LeBron or Curry is completely helpless on load management days is either clueless or being intentionally obtuse. All Curry has to do is drop one IG post saying that he wants to play, and he's going to play. These guys just don't appreciate the fans like old school players did

[–] cheerioo@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I don't think Curry has been a guy who's managed a lot of loads but correct me if I'm wrong definitely. A lot of the games he hasn't played has been due to injury. You could say he sat a lot of 4th quarters on those good teams, but that also hurts his stats quite a lot I'd say.

[–] kinzer13@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Why bring up two of the oldest guys in the league? If anyone should take extra rest days, it's players over 35.

[–] siphillis@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Guys over 35 have specific exceptions to rest for this very reason.

[–] Deviljho12@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Because they make the aforementioned millions and people all over the world come to watch them play in person.

[–] therealbeef@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (16 children)

You don’t ever see hockey players taking games off for load management. You can’t force those guys off the ice on game days. NBA players are soft. Still love the league, but they soft. Ain’t no dawgs in this league compared to the NHL.

[–] Nothappened@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

This is why I respect LeBron and Curry, they know they have a duty to the league and are not their just to hoop like some other guys claim they are in the Nba for. And also you simply cannot ask to be traded until your fucking contract is over, players should honour it

[–] The_Void_Reaver@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I 100% support Lebron resting so I'm not saying this to shit on him but Lebron has missed 20+ games in each of the last 4 seasons. It's specifically part of why he's still able to play at such a high level when he feels fully healthy and ready to go.

[–] Buckys_Butt_Buddy@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

This is true across almost every other league outside of basketball. We don’t need the NHL is tough insecurity in here

[–] LiveFromFLORIDA@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

and make a lot less money

[–] wir_suchen_dich@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Watch hockey then.

[–] AffectionateStep5001@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Hockey players play even when they’re injured, that’s what some Vegas guys even revealed after they won the Stanley Cup

[–] ecn9@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Nobody sees hockey players do anything it's like the 20th most popular sport in the world.

[–] Pies_Wide_Shut@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

They also get paid considerably less than NBA players

[–] DontCallMeAnonymous@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (5 children)

Hockey players are hard core dedicated athletes who play for the game.

[–] JustANotchAboveToby@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

If you've ever played hockey, all you wanna do is play hockey

[–] BJYeti@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Hockey breeds some real crazy people

[–] PAO_RT_IN_THE_KISSER@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

An NHL player had his heart stop and was practically dead for a few seconds on the ice and when he became conscious in the locker room the first thing he asked was when he could go back out on the ice. Hockey players are fucking wild

[–] sleepysnowboarder@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

This may sound weird but As someone who played high level hockey growing up I can say that Playing hockey gives you some sort of adrenaline and high that no other sport compares too. I never really thought about it until now, but i think it has something to do with the speed of the game and the ability to just glide

Facts. This is just cold hard facts.

My man Patrice puts all these guys to bed.

[–] Louis-grabbing-pills@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Because there are way too many socialites in the NBA. They feel too entitled.

The most entertaining person on tv

[–] jumboponcho@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Players wanna play, this isn’t on them. Its teams wanting to sit players because of potential trades, load management, or tanking purposes

[–] idliketoseethat@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Nothing hits home better than a Charles Barkley Truism! :)

[–] RVAIsTheGreatest@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Chuck is absolutely right. Completely.

Just think it's a little offensive to the players to act as if they don't wanna play. Playing Basketball is if anything the only part these guys truly enjoy as professionals. That's why they go through the ice baths and pre and post-game warm ups and cool downs. The media, the morning practice sessions. It's because they love Basketball.

[–] Briggity_Brak@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

As soon as Inside the NBA's back we got Barkley-related posts dominating the sub, but in a good way. Glad to see them back

[–] by_yes_i_mean_no@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago
