Oh shit I did not think that this would actually happen. Means that they'd be on -5 after 9 games having played almost half the games you'd put them as favourites in over the course of a season (Luton, Wolves, Fulham and Bournemouth at home, Sheffiled United away).

Makes you wonder what kind of punishment Man City will face in 5 years once that investigation has wrapped up (let's be real it'll be like a relatively small fine and a transfer ban).

[–] SeyamTheDaddy@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

It'll probably be no punishment, their lawyers will drag it out until it's too late to punish them

Just remember kids... if you're not part of the illustrious Big Six™ that Sky Sports invented after we won the league, then the Premier League literally does not care about you.

Demands punishment while the likes of Man City and Chelsea have literally bought all of their success.

Reason number 1 of x why state clubs should never been allowed

[–] Modnal@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Chelsea was technically not a state club even if Roman got rich off Putin but that kind of ownership wasn't healthy either. It's one thing to level the playing field but what Chelsea did was first level the playing field and then build a giant skyscraper on top of it

[–] domalino@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

A scary number of people on here are too young to remember but no one called City's takeover state ownership at the time. Sheikh Mansour bought the club and it wasn't until 3 or 4 years later, probably with the Qatar purchase of PSG that people started referring to City as the same thing.

Go back to 2008 and all the coverage is about the individual Sheikh Mansour, there was no sense that the UAE state had bought a football team.

Apart from when the EFL complete let your lot off over FFP breaches

[–] legentofreddit@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

I get why fans of smaller clubs would try to push this narrative, but we don't actually know what is going to happen with City. There seems to be an acceptance they'll get off with it for some reason, but if found guilty their punishment would be multitude times more severe than a 12 point penalty.

And Chelsea haven't actually done anything illegal yet have they? Their potential breaches are in the future.

[–] B_e_l_l_@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

The point is that the rules have come in now that the supposed elite are established. Meaning they're protected from any would-be challenge.

[–] the_dalai_mangala@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

This is almost every City fans argument against FFP

[–] EdWoodwardsPA@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Pretty sure the method Chelsea used for their early purchases under Boehly are no longer possible. The loopholes have been closed.

So if they did them now it would be a breach but when they happend they were perfectly fine.

[–] Comessuer@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Manchester United were actually fined for a minor ffp breach

[–] PhEoNiX_-AsDa@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

i remember talk of a big 6 back in 07/08 being liverpool, utd, chelsea, arsenal, everton and villa

[–] d_smogh@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Is it to early for Ken to be turning in his grave?

Everton will still survive relegation on the last day.

[–] Destructo_D@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

He’s one of the main reasons we’re in this situation

[–] Mackieeeee@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Boy i cant wait City to get fucked to! /S

[–] FragMasterMat117@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Would put them on -5 if applied now

[–] backyardstar@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

What should they do in the January window? Just accept relegation and have a fire sale of their best players?

[–] efcdoyley@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Will still survive with how shite the bottom 3 are

[–] legentofreddit@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Looking at your next 10-12 games there's a chance you'd still be in minus points by February though as you don't have a single winnable home game (unless there's an upset obviously). So even though the bottom three are shite you would potentially have 15+ points to make up by then.

[–] TheConundrum98@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

it's an independent panel that is going to decide and this is what the Premier League is going to recommend to them for anyone who hasn't read the article

It doesn't say it anywhere explicitly, but from my understanding it would apply in this season

[–] Modnal@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

This season is probably the best one to have it since it has like 4 really bad teams so there's still a chance. Any other season and it's definitely bye bye

Would probably still stay up considering how bad the bottom 3 are but what a kick in the teeth for Everton when you compare it to the situation with City. Absolute joke.

[–] legentofreddit@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

They've already got away with massively over exaggerating Covid losses, and selling the naming rights to their (at the time) non existent stadium for a huge sum. This charge might be a technicality but they've been absolutely skating close to the edge of what is morally or legally allowed for years now.

[–] Squm9@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Nah Everton are pretty bad this season too a -12 would be horrendous

That if it happens though which I doubt it will judging by what the article actually says

[–] 1993blah@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

They ain't staying up with a 12 point deduction

[–] SomewhereAggressive8@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

This would put them 10 points away from safety as it stands now. I have no idea why you are so sure they’ll be able to overcome that.

[–] zi76@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I feel like they'll probably get 6 points in the end, but even that would be massively damaging.

[–] FloppedYaYa@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Why a decent manager like Dyche took that job is seriously puzzling. Man musn't be all right upstairs.

[–] beefersutherland1@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Dammit to hell, knew I should have put money on Everton going down this year

[–] Red_Maple@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Apparently FFP follows the “kick them when they’re down” philosophy

[–] Furu97@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

So if this happen, they will almost certainly go down. They would be 10 points off of safety and that is massive

[–] DesertRL@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Seems only fair we get a 1380 point deduction

[–] meganev@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

With how bad the newly promoted sides + Bournemouth are this season, I genuinely think they'd still survive.

[–] eeeagless@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Assume if this happens then the various Burnley, Leeds and Leicester cases are stronger?

[–] TehJofus@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

The most annoying part is that even if we get the deduction, it won’t just be over. Since the league okayed it at the time, we’ll end up in a long legal battle, probably lose even more money, and maybe get relegated somewhere along the way.

JUST ONE NORMAL DAY PLEASE. ONE.

[–] helpful_idiott@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Has no one told Everton that your suppose to bribe the FA with your oil money?

Leicester died for this

[–] prettyboygangsta@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Do City first.

[–] witsel85@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

That could take them years to make up

[–] tinyLEDs@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

they misspelled "Manchester City"

[–] Homerduff16@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Everton: Potentially avoids relegation because Sheffield United, Luton Town, Burnley and Bournemouth are somehow worse

The Premier League: Fine I'll do it myself

[–] DongGPT@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

boy oh boy am I relieved our owners made their way to the top the old fashioned way: dildos, fleshlights and non-abrasive lube

[–] tkdyo@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Would be kind of sad if this was what made Everton get relegated for the first time. They're the only non big 6 team to have stayed in the PL since its inception.

[–] cmingus@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

No team should be getting any punishment until Man City's has been delivered.

[–] Razzle_Dazzle08@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

These type of headlines almost always lead to nothing.

[–] John_Spartan_69@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Everton facing a 12 point ban, City go unpunished. This is the kind of thing that has ruined the game.

[–] ZodGlatan@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

What about City?

[–] No_Engineering_8832@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

No sympathy for those who skirt the financial rules to gain unfair advantage.

Disgusting scum club.

[–] Sam101294@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Genuine question, if, hypothetically, ban comes into effect while Everton are 11 points or below and the deduction is 12 points, can points go into negative or will it be 0
