TLDR: Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro broke twice, looking for a similar replacement that is more durable.

Hello, I got a Beyerdynamic 990 back in 2019, and used it until it broke in 2021. The headphone was extremely comfortable and I liked that the coiled wire stretched easily, so I got the DT990 PRO. The PRO is still comfy as hell, and I love it, but there is one component on my headset that keeps breaking. At first, the inside plastic plate (where the screws attach) broke, so I looked online but couldn't find any replacements. I scavenged the plates from my old 990 and it worked until the outer plate broke, and now the headphone is nigh unusable as it pokes into my head, even though there is nothing wrong with the sound quality. Can someone recommend either a Beyerdynamic or something similar that doesn't have this vulnerability?

I bought the Sennheiser HD 6XX but I hate it. It's like putting your head in a vise. People who enjoy the 6XX either have tiny heads, or steel skulls.

The DT900 pro X doesn't seem to break at that part that easy, maybe that would be good replacement

That's what the extending headband is for...

Beyerdynamic has the best reputation in the industry for durability and replaceability. So you definitely won’t find that. Doesn’t mean there don’t something different out there for you. You could just grab a replacement.

Didn’t take very long to find the replacements: Here

they just break again. I agree with op on this. It's a big weakspot.

Thank you! I did do a search on their website but I only found replacement earpads

One solution would be to design a proper clamp, and then have it 3d printed.

Maybe you're just not delicate enough

Seriously, I am not nice to my decade old dt770. They get dropped from desk height regularly. The only issues is that the adjustment clips are loose, so you have to adjust them every time you put them on, but they stay adjusted while you wear them, and I had to replace the cable. Made it removable.

I'm sorry but how much force are you putting in these clamps to break them?
