TBF they got their Don Mitchell equivalent.. its the rest of the roster that is the problem

[–] MoooonRiverrrr@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I wouldn’t even say the roster is bad. It’s just the fit of RJ and Randle and how good they can be.

They have wing defense and shooting with Grimes, Hart, Divincenzo

Guard defense and scoring with Quickley and again DiVincenzo

Mitch is a great rim protector. Hartenstein is a decent rim protector and good playmaker

I think if RJ was even close to being “that guy” they’d be a contender. But he’s not that guy on either end of the floor

[–] katsikisj@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

So far this season RJ has been the Knicks best player

everytime the Knicks miss out on a player everyone expects them to get, they leak out they didn’t want him anyway

said the same thing with KD. they didn’t view him as a Max contract player, and they only leaked that out once he didn’t accept their max contract offer

[–] jett1406@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

how does a player not accept a contract that was not offered

[–] HolyRomanPrince@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Phrase it this way. You want a new car but you already have a crappy Chevy. In order for you to upgrade your car you have to pay the equivalent of a brand new Benz for a Dodge Charger. Are you going to buy that new Dodge charger or would you rather sit on your Chevy and wait to see if you can pay Mercedes prices for a Mercedes?

[–] MoooonRiverrrr@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

They did want him just not for that package, and it was very smart of them to not. He doesn’t raise their ceiling with the way their roster is constructed and I’m glad they passed. They were better than the Cavs last year also

[–] katsikisj@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

They didn’t want to pay him to miss a season with Achilles surgery, a fair request. KD is amazing but what would he have done with RJ Barrett and Randle?

[–] ButtVader@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Just like Trae

[–] das_unicorn_got_band@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He isn't....

[–] Dependent_Store952@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I’m so happy we got Brunson instead

[–] McRibsAndCoke@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Facts, and give a fuck what Scott Perry thinks. Dude drafted Ntlikina and Knox 🤧

[–] pantaloonatic@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Might need to lay off Perry. Mills was in the big chair

[–] ObviousAnswerGuy@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

you never know, we still might get mitchell eventually , when he goes into FA

[–] behappysometimes@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

That’s because he isn’t, he’s either giving you 40 points with no defense or 14 points with no defense. Those are the only two options when it comes to this dude.

[–] stevenomes@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Minnesota dropped the mother lode for Gobert who is most certainly not franchise carrying player. Especially at his career arc. I don't care much for Knicks but I'm glad they didn't cave and held out for better situation. Well see what happens though because this current roster is not going to get much further. They should only blow all the picks on someone they legitimately think will be the title piece.

[–] OriginalBus9674@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

They’re not wrong but they’re being revisionists because they definitely saw him that way earlier.

He’s a very good 1B in my opinion, he’s needs a 1A.

[–] LoveIslandFansRawk@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Knicks were wise not to trade for Mitchell or KAT. Mitchell and Brunson in the backcourt would be utterly flammable. KAT would be KAT only paid $60M/year soon, so no thanks. You don't win a ring with KAT ever. They were wise to keep their trade assets for Embiid or any player above the Mitchell level (or even at the Mitchell level, just better at Defence and at a different position). I wish Mitchell would win more in the playoffs and drive winning more than he actually does

[–] Niner-Sixer-Gator@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Bruh y'all are NEVER getting Embid, why is everyone trying to push this bullshit, Embid not going anywhere, especially to New York

[–] NotAn0pinion@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I like Donovan, he’s one of the best shooters in the league and athletic enough to score in any way you can think of. That said, I don’t believe the Cavs are a championship contender unless Mobley develops into a player who is definitively better than him

[–] OUEngineer17@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Yeah. Unfortunately, the game I saw last night was Chet welcoming Mobley to the league...

[–] NotAn0pinion@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

14 points, 15 boards and two blocks is a really solid game. Just overshadowed by the longboi getting 7 blocks, that’s video game numbers.

[–] OUEngineer17@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Watching it told a completely different story. After Chets first block on Mobley, he was hesitant for the rest of the half. Mobley came back with more confidence for the 2nd half and got Chet a couple of times (with a block and a dunk), but overall, Chet looked very comfortable with Mobley guarding him and punked him so many times offensively and defensively.

To me, Mobley looked like the unsure rookie with a lot of talent and promise, while Chet looked like the 3rd year up and coming star.

Edit: Mobley did look dominant whenever Chet was out of the game. The Thunder often had JDub on him and Mobley took advantage as he should.

[–] matticans7pointO@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

To be fair Mobley was playing out of position and is at his best as a help defender. Don't get me wrong Chet looked like the better player at least for that game and deserves praise. Just saying it's not really that shocking that a player with Chets size and skill set looked comfortable when being guarded by someone like Mobley.

[–] PaperMoon-@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Are they wrong tho

[–] CaNANDian@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

He's not, he's a chucker selfish player

[–] tdizhere@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Damn for a moment I was about to flip that the West Cavs stabbed us in the back but then I saw the location and it made much more sense lol

[–] lordoftheduatawaits@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

good enough to get you to the playoffs but I hate his game come playoff time

[–] OkKindheartedness769@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Spida is in that Devin Booker category, one of the best #2s possible on a championship team

[–] spazz720@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Mitchell is a scorer. That’s what you’re getting. Defensive liability, not a playmaker. He can be a great piece but definitely not a cornerstone.

[–] Ninneveh@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago
[–] makashiII_93@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Knicks want to drive his value down so that when they sign him, the money they saved looks better.

Galaxy brain.

[–] KingFlappyFlips@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Damn y’all really don’t watch the Cavs huh?

[–] NYdude777@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He's clearly not. Source? My eyeballs.

[–] SharpMind94@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Mitchell just dropped 43 on the Thunder without a starting PG.

This isn't the first time he has had games like this without our starting PG. He can step up to the plate and deliver, but with JB’s coaching scheme. We aren't exactly getting the best of the best out of him.

If we have a better rotation and coaching scheme, I say that you could probably see a lot more out of Mitchell.

[–] Dare555@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I mean hes not , hes good but hes not..top 10-15 player level of great and Jazz wanted big package that would leave him without help kinda

[–] action_nick@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Clickbaity title which is causing clickbaity debate.

There are maybe 5 guys in the league right now that you would trade anything for.

Just because you aren’t one of those 5 guys doesn’t mean you can’t be a phenomenal player which Mitchell is.

The Knicks wanted Mitchell, but the price was just too high for us and had too much risk and potential future downside. If Knicks made the trade and saw that their ceiling was first or second round of the playoffs they would’ve been left with no trade pieces or draft picks and no clear path to improve. Which is exactly the situation the Melo trade left us in which set us back for years.

Trade absolutely made sense for the Cavs, and made sense for the Knicks to not do it.

[–] pnoisebored@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Mitchell didnt view Knicks as championship-winning franchise

[–] devonschmidt@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

The Knicks are right. Mitchell is overrated. Jalen Brunson is better than him. I'll die on this hill.

[–] Lao_xo@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

For the money sure, but overall no.

[–] Gaius_Octavius_@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I don’t know why any team would.

[–] PavelnMe@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

And they were right it seems

[–] dash_44@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Because he’s not…Shaq was right

[–] jankology@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He isn't. Unless it's a small market team from the midwest

[–] Outside-Ad-5684@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Probably right.

[–] LeftyBK@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago
[–] matticans7pointO@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He definitely isn't. He's similar to J Murray and J Brown where he can be an insane number 2 but isn't quite good enough to be a fist option every game in a playoff run.

[–] ziggyzigg95@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

They’re right
