This is why Democrats lose.

It feels like democrats are trying to join republicans more and more cause they keep “winning.” The reality is that Republicans aren’t simply winning, but they are getting away with abandoning their constituents. Democrats who are in it for nothing but power are seeing this and starting to simply join the side in power. Newsom is no different and I won’t be surprised when he finally swaps colors.

[–] TronBronson@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

Yea i've been trying to figure out whats going on with Newsom, but im convinced at this point he's just a power hungery politican running to the winning team. Values as deep as his career will allow.

[–] melfie@lemmings.world 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Newsom’s look and mannerisms remind me of Christian Bale from American Psycho. I can easily imagine him as a serial killer if he weren’t getting his rocks off as a politician.

Politics attracts sociopaths and narricists who are only in it for the power. There was a guy named Steve Panky who ran for governor in Idaho a few yeaes ago and he was convicted of stalking and murdering a little girl back in the 80's. He had a decent shot at winning too. If he had won I don't think he would have been convicted.

gavin newsom is the embodiment of dem rot

"Don't be a fascist, rapist, or bigot" isn't a hard test.

This would make a great republican campaign slogan. Maybe newsom has a good shot replacing trump

[–] aesthelete@lemmy.world 17 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

These motherfuckers will still be chirping about "cancel culture" while hanging from chains in Trump's gulag.

[–] technocrit@lemmy.dbzer0.com 22 points 3 days ago (1 children)

California is full of liberal fash. This dude is the main event.

[–] eugenevdebs@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I fucking hate my state for this shit. Acts like we're better than Texas or Florida but still is proudly bigoted and hates the poor.

[–] TronBronson@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Hey california has a super progressive college system. instate tuition at community college 90% paid by the state? Thats like the most based social service in this country. It allowed a poor kid from the midwest like me to pay for college while working at the college.

[–] eugenevdebs@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

We can be good, but we have a lot of poverty testing that prohibits others from that same system.

It is generous, and I hope we can keep it that way, but it also is means tested and often sucks people out of higher education. I'm personally a victim of that, with my local community college.

I am however thankful you got something good, and I wish more people could have it.

[–] TronBronson@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

I went off to college back in the great recession so it really was like the best option i could find. The experience really shaped me as a person and im so greatful i didn't lose my chance at education to poverty in a recession.

I'm sorry to hear they prevented you from that program. No system is without need for reform. Hopefully they can continue to improve the system and make it more inclusive.

Newsom, a Democrat, has attempted a fresh approach to political divisiveness

Seriously? Lurching to the right and courting republican voters is new, is it? Seems to me it's the same shit democrats have been doing for quite some time. Newsom should just get it over with and change parties.

[–] zbyte64@awful.systems 53 points 3 days ago (2 children)

He doesn't need to switch parties though, the leadership is on board with throwing trans women under the bus and approving GOP spending bills.

[–] badbrainstorm@lemmy.world 38 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Yet they can't figure out why the Democrats are considered "toxic" right now, and their ratings are in the shitter.

California isn't loving his schtick. I hope we vote him out in 2026 for governor. We'll see how that works for his presidential asperations. What a moron

[–] River_Tahm@lemmy.today 28 points 3 days ago (1 children)

He’s term limited so he won’t be running again for Cali anyway

[–] minnow@lemmy.world 37 points 3 days ago

He's setting up a go at the presidency. He knows that the DNC will want him to lean conservative, but he doesn't want to be painted as flip flopping or pandering, so he's leaning into it early. Now when the GOP inevitably calls him a woke far left extremist (or whatever buzz words they're using by that time) he can point back to this period as proof that he's "always been a centrist" who can appeal to non-MAGA conservatives.

Of course, he and the rest of the DNC haven't figured out yet that conservative voters are NEVER going to vote for the LESS conservative party.

[–] lena@gregtech.eu 10 points 3 days ago (1 children)

What the fuck, traitors. Can I have a source so I can look into this?

[–] MagicShel@lemmy.zip 16 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Source: Gavin Newsome on Joe Rogan. (I don't know about the spending bills but the trans stuff. it was like 2 or 3 weeks ago I think. Time works differently in a Trump admin.)

[–] socphoenix@midwest.social 24 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Don’t forget that asshole filed an amicus brief supporting the Supreme Court decision that you can arrest homeless people even if they’re only camping outside because there’s no shelter space

[–] futatorius@lemm.ee 13 points 3 days ago

He's been consistent about putting the boot into the homeless since he was mayor of SF.

[–] GuyFawkes@midwest.social 45 points 3 days ago

He’s completely misreading WHY Democratic numbers are dropping - it’s not because they’re not working closely enough with Republicans; it’s because they’re not treating them as they have us and blocking every single thing they do!

[–] RizzRustbolt@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago

The worst kind of carpetbagger.

[–] barneypiccolo@lemm.ee 55 points 3 days ago (2 children)

I used to think he was a viable presidential candidate, and he might still be, for non-MAGA Republicans. He's no longer a viable Democratic candidate, though.

[–] tiefling@lemmy.blahaj.zone 25 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

He's a perfect Democratic candidate, and that's the core problem with the party

[–] eugenevdebs@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

One year ago I would have agreed. I would have loved to see him with Harris as the VP pick.

And now I just regret ever thinking that.

[–] alkbch@lemmy.ml 8 points 3 days ago (4 children)

Harris is incredibly unpopular. She was the most or second most unpopular primary candidate in 2020. There are better picks.

Katie Porter is running for California Governor

[–] Xanza@lemm.ee 17 points 3 days ago (5 children)

She's pro-Israel. Worth pointing that out. Not sure the government needs more pro-Israel sycophants.

[–] Brkdncr@lemmy.world 12 points 3 days ago (3 children)

State governor has a lot less influence on federal matters than house and senate.

Here is a summary of her position:

https://www.politico.com/news/2023/12/18/katie-porter-bilateral-ceasefire-israel-hamas-00132368

[–] Xanza@lemm.ee 4 points 2 days ago (5 children)

I'm not scared of what she would do when in power. But having the opinion matters. It matters. You shouldn't elect people to lead us who don't treat others like humans. Period.

I won't help get her elected for the same reason I won't help get a member of the KKK elected--and if you can't see the parallel there, then I won't help you get elected, either.

He's a zionist anyway. We're all full up of genocide apologists. He should leave.

[–] MetalMachine@feddit.nl 1 points 2 days ago

Newsom is a part of it, but he's not wrong.

[–] Zippygutterslug@lemmy.world 33 points 3 days ago

Gavin Newsome likes to talk to bigots on his podcast, now wants to call his former party toxic

Gavin is making them even more toxic.

[–] FabledAepitaph@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

Is RFK Jr. sharing his alien mind control brain worms with all these other political candidates, or have they always been this garbage?
