What player in the NFL, past or present, would you have wanted to see succeed so badly but due to injuries, off the field issues, or whatever happened just derailed their career? For me it was unfortunate to see players like Josh Gordon or Justin Blackmon have their careers end or never getting back on track because of off-field issues.

I'm a derek carr fan since day 1 but the endless coaching changes and some other factors is gonna keep him at a very good but not great qb status

Jason Verrett - dude was playing all-pro level his rookie year and whenever he was on the field he was shutdown... but unfortunately he could never stay on the field.

Ryan Shazier was a future HoF line backer. He was fucking nasty. Before he got hurt only Luke was at his level at MLB. Steelers defense immediately went to top 3 in the league with his breakout. They tried replacing him like every draft he was so impactful.

Bo Jackson would have been really cool to watch have a full career.

Jahvid best man what could’ve been

[–] randomanonalt78@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Obviously someone like RG3 could’ve lit up the league if he didn’t destroy his knee.

If Bo Jackson didn’t get injured he could’ve held every RB record ever.

If Johnny Manziel didn’t go to a poverty franchise like the Browns it could’ve been possible with proper coaching he could’ve been a great scramble QB.

See the 30-for-30 on Marcus Dupree called "The Best That Never Was."

Dude had SO much potential in an era where running backs like him became legends... Emmett Smith, Barry Sanders, Eric Dickerson, Hershell Walker... he could have been at that level.

Sean Taylor, Bob Sanders, and Chris Henry

As a Browns fan, the first one that comes to mind is Tim Couch. He was picked out of Kentucky to be our first QB of the re-born Browns in 1999. He had all the tools, and seemed like a really decent guy as well. But the owners failed to put protection in front of him and a solid team around him, despite a really favorable expansion draft deal. He got pounded into oblivion behind that O-line and was never the same again. They destroyed that man's career, and set the franchise on a downward spiral that they're just STARTING to climb out of.

Feel like nkeal harry got a bad beat super early in his career even rookie year with brady left alot to be desired. But brady never had a great connection with rookie recievers. Then was move from bad situation to worse hoping he gets onto a practice squad somewhere and starts balling

Jason Verrett :(

If he could have stayed healthy, I fully believe that Sean Lee was headed for the hall of fame one day.

Cadillac Williams could have been a a perineal pro bowler. I don’t know if we would have gone down as one of the greats, but he sure seemed pretty special.

I would have liked to see Charlie Ward in the NFL. He chose basketball instead but would have been a top pick in the NFL.

Shazier easy

Surprised nobody said David Johnson. Dude was a freak for a few years, injured his wrist week 1 and was never the same. Lost the burst and power he had.

[–] Zanctmao@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I have often wondered how good David Carr could have been had he not been drafted first, overall by the Houston Texans. They had no offensive line, and he was eaten alive.

It would have been better for him to have been drafted by another team, to get some seasoning behind an established quarterback.

sterling sharp.

Rg3 injuries killed his career but damn he was special

[–] queencitywino@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Bo Jackson.

[–] TheCamaroGuy14@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Sam Bradford, David Wilson, Victor Cruz, Saquon Barkley

Joe Nameith.

Had one knee messed up in college, played lots of his career through even more injuries, drinking probably didn’t help either

Jamarcus Russell. Dude could have been great if he wasn’t so lazy.

Also Calvin Johnson - if only he wasn’t on the Lions.

Here's a curveball idea: Jay Cutler. If the Broncos don't fire Mike Shanahan, McDaniels doesn't ship Cutler off to Chicago (where QBs go to die). Chicago still has never had a 4k yard passer, Cutler did in his last year in Denver.

Reggie Bush

Lavar Arrington was just starting to become dominant when his body broke down.

Similar era different cause, Albert Haynesworth.
