Don’t mind Josh Allen currently on track for 36 passing touchdowns and 12 rushing touchdowns, having the most efficient season of his career and measuring out as a top QB in nearly every category.

[–] KD119@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Lamar doesn’t put the stats up but if any QB has to win it I think he deserves it. He is playing insanely efficiently this year. If they gave him the goal line tds instead of Gus I think he would be farther ahead in people’s minds. Fumbles (half of which seem to be just mesh point issues) is the only main downside this year.

[–] Papaloxs@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

He’s under 2000 yards and only broke 300 yards once this year. 4 games without a touchdown pass.

[–] Papaloxs@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Also the Ravens are winning because of defense. Team Statistical Rankings RUSHING PASSING OVERALL Off. 160.3 (1st) 221.3 (20th) 369.0 (6th) Def. 91.9 (8th) 203.9 (6th)

Ravens have the 5th most interceptions. T-4 most fumble recoveries. Giving up lowest PPG to opponents.

[–] MazKhan@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

It's not like our offense isn't putting up points too lol, but yes the defense has been insane

[–] bluegreen8907@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Hamlin doesn’t even play

My gripe with all COTY awards across the NBA and the NFL is they typically go to coaches who brought up an underperforming team or a team with low expectations. It never rewards the long term greatness and consistency of coaches. Is Cambell a top 5 coach rn? Let’s say Lions make it to NFCCG this year at 14-3 and same exact record and result next year. Well what changed. Why not back to back COTY awards.

If Sirianni and Reid go to the Super Bowl this year are they going to be considered for COTY next year? Probably not.

I guess my gripe with this awards stems from being a Utah Jazz fan and Sloan never winning it. Joke of an award if a HOFer can coach for 23 years and never win it.

[–] buffalotrace@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

It is also amusing when taken out of context. Like the dolphins. They are 6-3. They have lost to every "playoff team" Congrats on playing the Pats twice already boys.

I think he is doing a very good job, but lets maybe beat one team first.

[–] Stealthychicken85@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

So your gripe is give it to Andy Reid every year?

I mean turning a team around is what Coaches are brought in to do and if they don't well they get fired like McDaniels. I would rather see this Award be given to Coaches who helped a team from the gutter than constantly given to the team who didn't really improve drastically but finished the season 1st in their conference or won the SB.

If a Coach is good long enough, they will get that knock on the door from a few guys asking if they want to go to Canton

[–] Mantis05@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

If Tomlin somehow gets another winning season -- or maybe even, heaven help us, gets that team into the playoffs in a brutal AFC -- then I'm all for giving it to him.

[–] JBrundy@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I’ll never understand why people get mad about MVP being a QB award. It’s the most VALUABLE player. Does anyone think that QB’s aren’t the most valuable players?

The DPOY has basically become the “best pass rusher” award and nobody complains. A Safety, LB or CB needs an otherwordly season and a bad season from pass rushers to win the DPOY, the same way a RB or WR needs an otherworldly season and down year for QB’s to win the MVP.

[–] Ok_Caramel1517@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (4 children)

It's a great story that Damar came back from the brink of death and is still with us today but he hasn't played at all this year if he wins that award then that award is completely meaningless.

[–] TheOneWhosCensored@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Geno came back from nothing last season, that did far worse for the meaning than Damar potentially winning

[–] Maj0r_Ursa@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I think he played a few snaps against us but that’s the only game he has played in

[–] Paraeunoia@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Not trying to be contrarian bc objectively I agree w you (non objectively, I’m very compelled by his return), but hasn’t he played one game? Thought he was active and participated in one so far.

[–] slyfly5@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Should be Russ or breece hall imo

[–] couchjitsu@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (3 children)

I bet not even Mahomes thinks that Mahomes is the MVP.

[–] kamekaze1024@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Right? Similar with Lamar. By all means both QBs are playing great and that isn’t reflected in counting stats, but I think it’s heavily unfair to to the defensive players on any team if currently any QB wins MVP

[–] the_c_is_silent@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I don't think Mahomes is playing all that "great". Even last week, despite his stats looking good, he looked mediocre minus 2 drives.

[–] notmyplantaccount@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

People say this every week, but is there any QB really playing clearly better than him this year? not really. The standard for what people expect from Mahomes is just crazy.

[–] lnonl@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Hurts maybe? I’m an Eagles fan though so 100% homer take

[–] the_c_is_silent@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I feel like his high odds are exclusively due to prior seasons. Like people think he can explode enough to take it home.

[–] MistakeMaker1234@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Every postgame he talks about how the offense isn't where it needs to be. I have no doubt in my mind that he doesn't see himself as the MVP right now.

[–] Rapp5601@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Why do so many people have Micah parsons for dpoy, there’s like 4 dudes ahead of him and two of them are getting no love (maxx Crosby and danielle hunter)

[–] Wernershnitzl@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Yeah Myles Garrett and T.J. Watt no doubt belong up there but so does Crosby and Hunter for sure.

[–] Dirigible_Plums@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Why aren't any Vikings on here? I would think that the current leader in sacks AND TFLs would be at least voted for. Not to mention Kevin O'Connell turning around the season without our best player and starting QB not even getting a mention in COTY.

[–] Wernershnitzl@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Because they’re biased against us! Lmao

There’s still half a season left though and if we continue on the trajectory I’d say they’ll start talking differently.

[–] Western-Ad-9922@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Matthew Judon was in the top 5 in sack totals for the last two season. I think he was even #2 for a majority of one season and he was completely ignored.

[–] Puntfootballs@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

KOC might get some more love if we keep winning without Kirk. The fact that we've won 5/6 without JJ should be enough to be in the convo. But if we make playoffs with Dobbs, it should be him.

[–] Paraxom@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

This is geno stone erasure

[–] Mr_Blicky_@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Do I have homer bias if I ask where Maxx Crosby is on dpoy? Not even in the convo?

[–] giggity_giggity@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

What kind of fool votes for Harbaugh or Pederson as coach of the year over the knee biter? Seriously!

[–] Temporal_Enigma@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

So TJ Watt is third on the list even though he is tied with Garrett for sacks, has more sacks than Parsons, more forced fumbles than Parsons, more fumble recoveries than Parsons, more QB hits than Parsons, more interceptions than Parsons, and a Fumble Return TD.

Parsons only barely edges him out in TFLs and tackles, but of course, he's higher than Watt.

Garrett himself is barely above Watt in the stats, so him being first is fine, especially at the halfway point, but Parsons is 100% a popularity pick and that's why I hate these awards. It's all bozos who know shit all about football and just follow who the media likes

[–] slotoqusaip@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I don’t get the fascination with Dan Campbell. They’ve beaten a bunch of crappy teams and the Chiefs without Kelce/Jones. The Seahawks beat them and the Ravens utterly embarrassed them. They might make the playoffs because of the weak schedule but they aren’t a serious team until they actually beat someone.

[–] eedeotbwoy@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The mvp of this season is so obviously Tyreek Hill and I think people are getting way too carried away with this narrative that “skill positions can’t win MVP” even though everybody including the NFL knows Tyreek deserves it this year.

[–] Papaloxs@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Except his fumble that cost his team a big game in Germany and several dropped passes against the Eagles that sealed their fate.

[–] Raticus9@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Was hoping they'd have Devon Witherspoon closer to the lead for DPOY (he got 7 votes to Jalen Carter's 18), although it would hardly be an injustice if Carter won. The two have really separated themselves from the pack.

[–] drummerboysam@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

CJ Stroud is a lock for AFC OROTY, but what about the NFC?

Jordan Addison? Jordan Love?

[–] Puntfootballs@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Love isn't a rookie, and he's been bad.

[–] speedfan11@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I got a list, here’s the order of my list that it’s in

It goes: Mahomie, Jalen, Tua and Herbie

Jared the outcast, Lamar, Burrow, Josh and Purdy

So Hill is not put on this list, the shit does not offend me

That’s why you see his odds around the 49’ers McCaffrey

Even though half you people wanna give him MVP

You hate it, but you know respect given to the QB

The voters’ wet dream, like Peyton and Brady – Nate, hit me!

[–] OddSeraph@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago
[–] Papaloxs@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I’m sorry but Lamar’s only impressive game this year was against Detroit. The stats don’t support him as MVP. The Ravens are world beating potential because of their insane defense.

[–] Puntfootballs@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Danielle Hunter without a single DPOY mention is the craziest snub on here. He leads the league in sacks, has turned into a monster against the run, he's all of the things people are looking for in the other guys nominated, he's just been better at it this year.

[–] notmyplantaccount@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

MVP i'm going with Tua or Allen, whichever one can go on a heater and win the AFC East. Hurts if they both stumble. Lamar might not reach 20 passing TDs, Mahomes being hamstrung by a defense that's too good.

OPOY: Tyreek

DPOY: Probably whichever big name dude rips off the most sacks in the last half. plenty of good options.

COTY: Campbell if they get to 13-14 wins. If not Pederson/McDaniel maybe, or Sirianni if they win 15/16. Outside shot for Houstons coach if they somehow get to 10 wins as the voters love the shitty team that barely makes the playoffs.

CPOY: Chase Young (only cause I bet on him before the season at like 75:1 odds or some shit).

[–] pornokitsch@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

The only one that's wide open to me is coach.

Campbell is awesome and I love him and he is 'coach I would most like to hang out with', but... I dunno. I really like the Lions and the underdog-to-winner narrative is strong here. He's definitely my front-runner, but I don't see it as a lock by any means.

Saleh feels like a strong dark horse here. Reshaped the entire roster around one dude, and then that dude only made it 4 snaps into the season. Yet still finding a way to always be competitive and sometimes win. Sticking with Zach Wilson feels like a boneheaded move that will count against him, but how much of that is his fault? It would've been really easy to bin this season, but they're playing hard every game.

Tomlin isn't even on the list but, as above. Somehow doing very well and is very competitive, and is doing it with a bucket of broken toys. That's amazing.

McDaniel, Pederson, and Harbaugh have really good rosters and were expected to do well. Not to be a homer, but why would any of them have a more compelling story than Andy Reid or Nick Sirianni? They're all very good and their teams are doing well, but... did anyone expect otherwise?
