I know most of the players aren't playing anywhere near their potential with Curry carrying them like his life depended on it. But even if they all did better, is it still a championship team?

I don't view them as imminent threats, but I also would not want to match up with them in the playoffs. If they happen to win it all, I'd shrug my shoulders and be like "Yeah, that happens sometimes."

[–] BillEvans69@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I'd guess not. With GS's core not getting any younger, it could be argued that their window was closed by the Draymond/Poole incident last season. Klay seems off this year. They have CP3. So when the playoffs come and the Warriors find themselves needing a second unit leader, CP3's going to be unavailable to them. He'll pull a hammy or something.

If GS's players play to their reputations then the Warriors aren't contenders. But the Warriors have surprised us all before. Steph is wicked talented. Klay could just be having a rough start. Wiggins is a difficult player to get a good read on. Their roster ain't bad.

Until they are officially eliminated, I won't count them out.

[–] cyb3ryung@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

fair enough🫡

[–] Mbanicek64@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

That is also the official disposition of the league. They will be assumed to not have been eliminated until they are.

Finally someone talking sense.

[–] 127crazie@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Agreed. The Warriors in the playoffs will strike fear in my heart until if & when the clock strikes 0:00 and they are officially eliminated

Imo those days are over but I guess we’ll see.

there a year away from being a year away (in the wrong direction)

[–] naslanidis@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

No, i would say Curry's supporting cast aren't good enough.

[–] cyb3ryung@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

you phrased this as if people thought they were? not the same team from 2 seasons ago. anyway, its hard to rely on the “potential” of older players because they just might be what they are. hoping one or two moves are made before the deadline if not sooner.

It’s insane to think a team that’s won a bunch of trophy’s with essentially the same team is being ridden off. When you have an absolute game changer like Steph, literally anything can happen

The exact same as any team with lebron on it

Using your own actual money. Are you going to ever bet against Steph or lebron?

I’m not talking long time wins. But I’ll never bet against Steph or lebron. Chances are just so much on their side for a career long bet. I’m going with them

[–] Spaghettibeach@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

nope, dynasty’s over

[–] magicbeaned@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Absolutely yes. Both rookies look good enough for serious minutes, Wiggins and Kuminga are becoming expendable trade pieces at the deadline.

Steph is still the best player in the NBA when he needs to be. It’s is possible.

They do have the champion mentality in them, but no second consistent scorer will definitely hurt

[–] Jolyon-Chen@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Not with current starters. The forwards are all out-muscled. They keep trying to go small ball, but everyone knows their tactics now as they've been playing nearly all the same guys for 3 years now. They need to either put Saric or CP3 in and just focus on P&R with those two as second option and not focus on slashing so much. It mostly results in fouls. You could argue for Podziemski and TJD, but those aren't proven, meanwhile Saric and CP3 tactic worked fine at PHX. They would be def contenders for the Conference Final then.

[–] Drag0nborn1234@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Unless everyone and their mother gets injured again like on the last chip they won, no. Absolutely not. That is a mediocre team, no matter how much curry scores on offense.

[–] ImS33@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Yeah I think so. They have steph curry. If the rest of the guys can put it together at all there is always the lurking chance curry can beat any team any given night

[–] Tapprunner@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

No, and we'll look back on this year as the year it ended for this core.

I don't know why everyone is expecting Klay to look like himself again - at his age and with his injury history, the decline he's showing is exactly what should be expected.

Draymond also turns 34 this year. We should expect to see him slow down/deal with more injuries.

It's also important to keep in mind that ageing isn't some slow, linear regression. As they get older, players become more injury prone. It doesn't go "the guy slowed down by 5% each year, started otherwise healthy, then retired."

So even Curry should be expected to be injured at some point.

Not anymore. Klay thompson sucks!

[–] TaviscaronLT@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Depends on how many opposing stars can Draymond and CP3 injure with their natural motions.

[–] Original_Trick_8552@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Not right now

[–] Y-TRBX@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

They’re definitely contenders, but the big three of Steph, Klay, and Dray has come to an end. I think it’s time to make some trades and put younger talent around Curry.

[–] redditissuckysuck@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

If wiggins and klay find their rythm they will be scary

[–] SteamCleaner23@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

With the current roster I don’t think so. But I’m never ruling out a Curry or Lebron led team.

That said, I don’t think golden state is going to sit idly by and watch them be an 8 seed again. I think the organization knew this year was going to be the one they may need to make hard decisions, whether during season or off season.

I could see them moving a combination of Wiggins, Klay and multiple picks for some kind of solid #2 player. I think at some point GS has to consider mortgaging its future to make one last run with Curry.

[–] Klunko52@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I think they definitely can be. Their main two weaknesses are Wiggins and Klay right now. Wiggins is coming back from a broken rib so I’m pretty confident he’ll be a lot better given some time. People forget how good he was starting last season. I am worried about Klay but I really think the answer is moving him to the bench. He’ll have a lot less pressure and can just be fed by CP3 and be a spot up shooter.

[–] Bombast_@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

As a fan, I think the team will bounce back from our current doldrums but ultimately injuries will keep us from getting further in the playoffs than last year.

Overall I'd say the team is in decline, and we're probably due for a huge rebuild in 3-4 years.

[–] Blaze4G@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

No. Imo I just think klay is washed and won't return to his glory days. Curry can have his best season ever but if klay remains a bum they won't go far.

[–] Torkzilla@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

They old Kenny.

[–] Annual-Shape7156@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Not as currently constructed but they can make trades so they’ll be a threat all year.

[–] cyrnios@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Isn’t Steph the only superstar right now without an actual second option?

[–] Fr0_oz3n@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

They need to make a big trade but yes they are contenders.

[–] 75DubFan@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Maybe not, but they have Steph so they have an outside shot!

[–] ImTheBestNerd@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Yea we’re in the mix, once we trade for siakam we should be favorites

[–] Raspberry_Anxious@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Without Curry, they are by far the worst team in the league. But with him there, they have a chance to beat anyone.

[–] Top-Consequence-911@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

They have a lot of assets and tradable salaries; that's the only thing making them contenders. So many moves they can make.

[–] Shrederjame@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

There contenders in the sense I think they will make the playoffs bit their not beating the Denver nuggets so not really real contenders

[–] mikeynerd@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

It's looking like "no", but you just can't count out a team with the Splash Bros because they're awfully tough to beat IF they both get hot.

Big IF.
