A bison gored a man Tuesday after a large group of visitors got too close to the animal in Yellowstone National Park, officials said.

The 30-year-old from Randolph, New Jersey, was treated for minor injuries after being gored around 9:45 a.m. in the Old Faithful area, according to a park statement.

Park officials didn’t release the man’s name or condition, saying what happened was under investigation and no more information was available for release.

He was the second person gored by a bison already this spring in Yellowstone. A 47-year-old Cape Coral, Florida, man had minor injuries after being gored in the Lake Village area May 7.

Don't fuck with megafauna, it's not a hard concept

A win for the animals! Feels good.

Gored sounds more brutal than minor injuries. Gore. You know

[–] mitchty@lemmy.sdf.org 4 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

That’s the word for being stabbed by a horn? Unsure how it has any other meaning, bison have horns and when they use them it’s known as goring.

gore 3 of 4 verb (2) gored; goring transitive verb : to pierce or wound with something pointed (such as a horn or knife) gored by a bull

[–] SunshineJogger@feddit.org 2 points 15 hours ago

I didn't in fact know that. I only knew "gore" or "gory" as in very bloody and digustingly brutal.

Every fucking year some dumbass trys to pet them or something. They are not fluffy cows like bumper stickers, and shirts you can buy in the park claim they are.

Of course they all read: Don't pet the fluffy cows.

Look they are killers and hate mankind. My theory being around them is they remember what we did to their ancestors. I believe its in their genetic code, and that's why they attack us if we get to close. It's a theory. Regardless how harmless they look they are not and will take any opportunity to fuck you up if possible.

Edit: and just add this news isn't surprising I mean every year this happens. Me and wife last year were there when they kicked a man out of the park for attempting to put his kid on the back of one. It was right at the Old Faithful Inn. Dumbasses everywhere.

Don't pet the fluffy cows

They should do something about these dangerous creatures, how'd they ever let it get out of New Jersey?

[–] RedditIsDeddit@lemmy.world 28 points 1 day ago

Happens all the time. Stupid people never respect wildlife.

[–] Bahnd@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago (2 children)

They had a shirt in the gift shop last time I was in the park.

Walk up and pet the buffalo, let your kids ride the moose, drive fast around corners. We thank you for your support.

Amazon

RedBubble

This one is equally good.

They're available a bunch of places, but I didn't see any from the actual NPS. There's one site that looks somewhat official, but it is not.

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

I missed that one. I definitely would bought that one.

What is it about megafauna that makes us go stupid mode near them?

[–] EndlessNightmare@reddthat.com 3 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

I've been to places with bison, and people just can't seem to keep a respectful distance. I've seen multiple instances (encroachment, not goring).

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 1 points 22 hours ago

they think they are domesticate cattle.

I'd vote for Joe Bison for president. Love his initiative.

Is he the one lumbering around the field, confused and dazed?

[–] anon6789@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Aww, you edited it.

He does run with the herd more than I'd prefer, but that's just how he is.
