What if you don't have social media accounts?

[–] BoycottPro@lemm.ee 10 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

This is stupid. This will not stop spies and terrorists, they will just create fake accounts. This will only hurt legitimate immigrants.

[–] FireIced@lemmy.super.ynh.fr 1 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

This is for non immigrant visas it says

[–] BoycottPro@lemm.ee 5 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

What I said can be applied to any type of visa. The policy is not going to fix anything, it's only going to invade peoples privacy and turn away legitimate visa applicants.

USA being USA

Btw don’t forget to switch instance

[–] Grandwolf319@sh.itjust.works 27 points 7 hours ago (2 children)

Seriously, what’s the advantage of having social media? Just seems like a liability with every account.

[–] BlameTheAntifa@lemmy.world 13 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

If you don’t have social media you must be “hiding” something and will be denied entry.

[–] refalo@programming.dev 1 points 1 hour ago

will be denied entry

Make a fake one that posts like... idk post random tech stuff that you could be reasonably interested in. Make nothing critical of authority. As a decoy profile.

Then you can rant about big brother on an anonymous Lemmy Account over TOR.

[–] WoodScientist@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 hour ago

Finally a killer app for AI. Create social media profiles and use AI agents to populate them with bland uncontroversial drivel.

[–] FireIced@lemmy.super.ynh.fr 1 points 1 hour ago

But a super recent account would be suspicious

You have to do this over a couple years

[–] serenissi@lemmy.world 9 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago)

My US visa officer: what do you mean you did not have 'social' media accounts in 5 years? No, these weird sites don't count. Underground terrorist? Straight to gulag.

[–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 5 points 6 hours ago

But sir, the form only has space for four!

[–] ter_maxima@jlai.lu 8 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

"I don't use social media"

[–] FireIced@lemmy.super.ynh.fr 0 points 1 hour ago

If you’re a student, you must have something to hide, as everyone uses social media

[–] Samsy@lemmy.ml 21 points 9 hours ago (2 children)

Sure why not, since my name is Anthony O'Neill. You can find my short form username: Anon.

What could they find? I bet I'm save.

[–] rumba@lemmy.zip 7 points 8 hours ago

I'm betting on the opposite problem,

We show here you've been VERY active. Please have a seat in this chair until we come for you.

Yes, what possible community full of people named "Anon" could they find that would get you in any amount of trouble?

[–] refalo@programming.dev 1 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

4chan. they call each other anon all the time

[–] DeathByBigSad@sh.itjust.works 11 points 9 hours ago (4 children)

"Have you ever attempted to overthrow a government by force or violence?"

Non-Citizen MAGAt: sweats profusely

[–] Duamerthrax@lemmy.world 8 points 6 hours ago

"Why? Is the CIA hiring?"

This is why I’ve already deleted basically everything, social media is a cancer that pushes us further and further apart and replaces meaningful interactions with vapid and shallow counterfeit interactions, it’s a net loss for anyone using it at this point.

[–] FireIced@lemmy.super.ynh.fr 1 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

And soon you will be deleted due to lemm.ee closing

[–] ubergeek@lemmy.today 9 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Meanwhile, you post here :P

Oh well, I wouldn't have been welcome anyway, seeing I've had the audacity to be critical of Israeli ~~genocide~~ defense, TACO and Daddy Put-it-in.

Guess I'll go spend my tourist money elsewhere.

Great decision

[–] tamagotchicowboy@hexbear.net 19 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Every social media username? I figure most people are like me and lost most of them.

Good luck. NYS couldn't even keep track of this requirement just for CCW permits.

[–] Bloomcole@lemmy.world 8 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago)

Who TF wants to set foot in that shithole banana republic anyway?
Stuff your visa, and return the favor and stay TF out of other people's countries.
That would be a welcome change.

[–] Thebigguy@lemmy.ml 14 points 11 hours ago

I mean they make you sign away your rights and tell them if you’ve ever been affiliated with any one who was in or if you joined a communist party. So this is just another layer on the shit cake.

[–] Grumpyleb@lemmus.org 129 points 16 hours ago (16 children)

America is such a fucking joke it's no longer funny. I wish we could isolate the rest of the world from your madness but unfortunately we can't.
