My coworker brought this up today and I thought he was misreading his statline somehow. Looked at his stat page, and yeah, it really is only five on the year. I already knew he wasn't one to draw fouls but you'd think you'd at least accidentally draw one shooting foul a game as a starter.

To his credit, he's hit all five.

roco and moussa diabate have more and are averaging 4 ppg

[–] dank-kush@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Honestly going back between him and nurk is just a mid off.

[–] Shmokeshbutt@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I've been calling the dude a bust since early 2022. Salty Suns fans kept downvoting the truth back then. Vindicated.

Broke: Deandre Ayton has attempted only 5 fts through 11 games.

Woke: Opposing players are afraid to foul 100% ft shooter Deandre Ayton.

[–] RogerTreebert6299@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Whatever-you-do-don’t-hack-DominAyton

Must be why shaq’s always on his case, Deandre’s making him look bad

[–] BBallHunter@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

What does he dominate exactly.

[–] DonutBoy182@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

This really is a neato stat of the day

[–] defiantcross@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

you gotta try REALLY hard to have a worse offensive box +/- than worse-finishing-center Nurkic

[–] RaggasYMezcal@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

DeAndris Biedrins

[–] LoWE11053211@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Too dominating

Players are so afraid to even foul him

[–] asapshrank@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I feel like if the average person was given 30 minutes at the 5 on an NBA team they could stumble their way into more than 5 FT’s on 11 games. Like fr, how does this even happen lol

[–] DontBanMe_IWasJoking@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

he was exaggerAyton

[–] lazzysmalls@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

He hates contact. He’s all about taking baby hooks, floaters, and floaters. He will make an effort to avoid contact by fading away on hooks if it’s coming.

[–] herseyhawkins33@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Blazers fans, why isn't he taking more shots in general?

[–] zerocoolforschool@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

You know what’s funny? They waited until the game after he dropped 22 and 10 on 58% shooting. We were on a second of a back to back. The whole team played like shit. Suns fans need to grow up and get over it.

[–] GenericDarkFriend@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

r/nba despises the foul baiters of the league so naturally you guys should love Ayton right…?

[–] bb1432@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Remember that guy who absolutely disappeared in the NCAA tournament loss to fucking BUFFALO?

Because that's still exactly who he is.

[–] pakyukayoredditmods@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Portland to Ayton:

“Look, we cannot allow you to dominate. That will win us games. We are rebuilding these next few years. Look at the Wizards, they have Poole playing mediocre to increase odds of getting a draft lottery pick. We need to follow the same blueprint.”

[–] Schwalm@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Damn we gonna get 5 updates a day about this?

[–] JoeTheHoe@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (7 children)

He’s got such a strange skillset. He likes to play with finesse- jump hooks, middys— But he also can’t handle the ball whatsoever, and he can’t really shoot 3s. So you’re not really playing him on the perimeter.

But he doesn’t want to use his insane physical gifts to dunk and draw contact, so he can’t be a rim-runner either.

So you’re left with a gifted center whose finesse in the least efficient/effective ways, and only physical every so often for small stretches depending on whether he took his adderall.

[–] JKongii@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Great analysis… someone needs to get in his ear and wake him up!

[–] chitownbulls92@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Did you just describe Jhalil okafor?

[–] prematurely_bald@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

He has a 43.5" vertical, he can outrun 99% of bigs (when he tries), and he covers the perimeter better than anyone his size. You could almost say he has the physical tools to be a Giannis type if he wanted to be.

[–] sukari@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

That's why he made his 2k player a shooting guard

[–] rameninside@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Rich man's Jahlil Okafor

[–] Gr8WallofChinatown@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

But he doesn’t want to use his insane physical gifts to dunk and draw contact, so he can’t be a rim-runner either.

It’s on purpose. He doesn’t want to shoot FTs.

He has terrible mental fortitude

You can’t be a great player without being able to draw fouls.

[–] ruinatex@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Remember when people were confused that the Suns gave Ayton away for a box of cookies? Yeah, it lasted less than a month of the season. He's a skilled player, that is bad, it's hard to explain, but it's just who he is.

Ayton is not close to being a winning player nor he ever will be, the fact that Phoenix chose the corpse of Jusuf Nurkic over him shows that. There's something so wrong with how he approaches the game that despite being gifted, he is such a negative that you'd rather have a washed player over him.

[–] gardenofoden@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (3 children)

He was defecayton last night but he's actually been pretty good this year despite the lack of scoring

[–] Devilsbullet@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Honestly with a healthy team what he brings is perfect for y'all. Grant, ant, and Sharpe can put up points in bunches. If he rebounds, plays good d, and puts up 15 a night without completely collapsing the paint on offense he's a great fit

[–] zerocoolforschool@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Why does this sub have such a weird hate boner for Ayton? Jesus fuck people, find something better to do.

[–] Bill_Murrie@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

He's got a lot of bounce on the perimeter for a guy his size, and while he doesn't go for blocks, he knows where to be around the rim on D, besides his rookie year he's always been a plus defender

[–] Tapprunner@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Really seems to be the classic "I've always played basketball because I'm in the top .0000001% for height. Now I'm in the NBA."

[–] zerocoolforschool@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Dude…. He has been good this year. You people are being ridiculous.

[–] Albiceleste_D10S@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

The Ayton hate from Suns flairs in this sub feels really unnecessary IMO

[–] Proper_Hurry_362@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Chauncys offense is shit and Ayton fades away from any and all contact.

[–] mnight84@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Ayton is a tough player to properly evaluate, the Ayton apologist will tell you he is so much better than Nurkic, but just because he is a little bit better than nurkic, doesn't mean he is living up to being the number 1 overall pick unless you think being the next Clint capela or Jarrett Allen is what you want out of a number 1 overall pick! Ayton isn't a top 5 player in his own draft class if you were going to redo the 2018 draft, and despite Nurkic not doing much in Phoenix most suns fans don't want ayton back. But ayton is a solid player who you can win with, and if he made a little less you would be happy with him as your 4 best player on a good team, if ayton was taken around the 8 to12 pick in the first round of the draft you would be happy with his production.

[–] zerocoolforschool@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

We don’t need him to be the number one pick. We traded a bunch of garbage for Ayton and got Camara as well. We’re ahead of the game. He’s a net positive for us. We just want a solid center that rebounds, blocks shots, and can score in a pinch.

[–] fimbres16@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

His shot selection for his skill set is hilarious. Settles for face up middies consistently.

[–] TwoDucksandaWrench@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago
[–] Discpline-@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Well according to me he and James Harden are the only two very weak(mentally) all-star level players, no offense.

[–] UnripeWatermelon@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago
you guys think Ayton is athletically gifted because he’s got an aesthetic body. That’s kinda gay but also ignorant cuz clearly he’s uncoordinated and stiff as hell and that doesn’t change
[–] DharmaBaller@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Mind boggling.

And y'all thought Ben Simmons has free throws issues...Ayton can make them too!

[–] Cleanandslobber@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Before the brigade of pro-freethrow fanatics rolls in saying "free points" and "game decided at the line" and "it's the basics from childhood" well . . . I agree.

[–] loveandmonsters@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Free throws are for chumps who can't power through! YEAAHHH BABYYYY

[–] AnthonyTyrael@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Ok, ok....Basketball shit aside...I read Domina.
