Yes I know his legacy is more than cemented but nobody should be immune to criticism, you cant tell me even if he goes 0-82 he should still be considered a top tier coach. Just like players can be past their prime so could a coach. He hasn’t really done much since Kawhi left the team, the Derozan/Aldridge team didn’t achieve much, and as much as we are still in a ‘development’ and experiment stage for Wemby, this can’t realistically be the best case you’d expect. At what pt do we say “Maybe he isn’t the best coach for this team” or “Another coach could get more wins than him with same roster”?

When he replaced Bob Hill after falling into Tim Duncan.

Go see what fans have to say about Belichick nowadays. At least you are saying that Pop has cemented his legacy; people are completely undoing poor Bill's entire career.

As far as I'm concerned, both coaches have earned the right to coach as long as they want to with their respective franchises. They made them dynasties, their fans can wait until they're ready to be done. And at least Pop has Wemby. It would have been great if Belichick got a franchise QB instead of Mac Jones.

Derozan/Aldridge combo achieved as much as it should have honestly under Pop. Its a mid combo. Name a coach that would do better with the Spurs current roster?

Dwayne Casey went to conference finals with Derozan. Pop couldn't get out of 1st round?

We went to game 7 against the Blazers in the 2nd round in 2019

Dude. DeRozan had a historically bad on/off that whole postseason. If ever a player was given credit for leading a team to the conference finals while literally being dragged by the supporting cast that was it. That in no way reflects on Popovich.

Are you serious, we are 10 games in...

Look at their team. No coach can do much with this team. It’s the truth. I have the highest respect towards Coach Pop after watching the Spurs the last few decades. Best ball movement team of all time.

Okay I'm assuming you're new or haven't been paying attention to the roster but that team is still in rebuild and is very young for the next 2 or 3 seasons the team is going to be in development with a lot of changes that is how a rebuild goes there is a lot of losing involved it does not matter what hypothetical magic coach you throw into it the situation of a rebuild wouldn't change the amount of loses is gonna stay pretty much the same

Pop’s got to go…. Just like Bellchick in New England. Two old guys that haven’t done much in many years. It’s time for a new voice in San Antonio.

Winning regular season games doesn’t make you a good coach automatically. Development and playoff performance is a major part of it. It’s why pop is glazed so much. Is bellechick a shit coach cause the patriots are 2-8 rn?

people don't seem to have a problem calling belichick washed or saying the game has passed him

phil jackson has a better win percentage

We don’t.

A lot of the great young up and coming coaches coached under pop. Not surprising

Pop has already admitted that the beginning of this season is very hands off, wait and see. He is intentionally letting his players go with the flow of the game and calling limited plays. Do y'all honestly think Gregg Popovich DOESN'T know we need a PG? Or that Tre is better? Of course he does. But that's not important right now. We aren't winning a championship with Tre Jones as a our PG so let's figure out what we have on our roster. Who fits with Wemby, who can play around him, etc.

“I don’t want to follow a road map,” Popovich said, “because there is none.” “He’s doing some things that are really special,” Popovich said. “He’s doing other things that I don’t want him to do, but I’m going to say very little to him now because I need to learn where he feels most comfortable on the court.”

Right now it's basically "let Wemby do what he wants and let Jeremy and Keldon figure out how to play off of him." When he feels like they know what they got, he'll actually start coaching and calling plays and putting them in good situations.

Pretty clear what the plan is this year…

[–] jamiecballer@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

He hasn't had an especially good player since Kawhi, I think that may be a significant factor.
