A place to politely discuss the tools, technique and culture of photography.

This is not a good place to simply share cool photos/videos or promote your own work and projects, but rather a place to discuss photography as an art and post things that would be of interest to other photographers.

This may seem odd but I’d like to hear people’s perspective on this.

I am a working freelance photographer. Lots of news, portraits, events.

I currently use 2 Sony bodies with the classic 24-70 and 70-200. I love the 70-200 for the reach and range. But I often find myself setting the 24-70 to a wider focal length and leaving it. I rarely zoom in and out. The ONLY time I use the 24-70 is news assignments where I don’t know what to expect.

I also have a 24, 35 and 85 primes that I love. I use the 24 & 35 all the time for any events or news stuff where I know what to expect.

I’ve been thinking about selling the 24-70 and getting a 50 prime and being done with the wider zoom. I love the lighter lenses, the faster aperture options, and the simplicity.

Would this be a mistake? How do y’all view this ?
