I don’t really know who else to tell this to, but I just passed the $100,000 mark in my business with a month left to go for the year.

This is crazy to me and I hope this is encouragement to someone out there, If anything at all.

I’m 6 months post graduation and I never wanted to get a job…so I stuck to my guns and continued my business instead.

What business branch are you in if you're comfortable sharing?

[–] SelectionCurrent5942@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Check previous posts. Looks like he is a music producer

[–] Relevant_Bass_9145@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Honestly your a legend, mad Inspiration. Thank you.

[–] fr0zen32@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Congrats! That's a big milestone. The first $100k is hard, the first $1M is even harder, but after that, it gets easier. Don't give up.

[–] SirNokarma@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Why would you say, personally, that after $1M it gets easier?

Any ideas what your target will be for 2024?

u/Iceman_033 Could you share what industry you're in + the name of your business?

Would love to feature your experience on this site where I interview indie founders like yourself on how they started and grew their businesses.

Can posters please add if that's revenue or net profit and details about the business or any advice you want or give.

Otherwise it's more a message to your friends since we are all here lacking context

[–] rgtong@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

99% of the time if its not mentioned specifically then theyre referring to revenue.

[–] RossDCurrie@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

I'm sorry, but this question is dumb. You're showing your ignorance by asking it.

I know it's a popular question in this sub, because we all like to tear people down, and everyone's a scammer, but first of all, it's a personal win they want to share. They're not trying to teach you how to do things, or sell you a course. They're just excited that they hit a personal milestone. Quit being such a negative jerk and lend a fellow entrepreneur some support - it's hard enough when your 9-5 friends and family don't understand the entreprenur's journey, we should at least support each other on it.

Secondly, it takes all of a second to click OP's profile and see that they "produce music for artists and film companies" and "have a site where I upload my instrumentals for sale". And yeah, that comment was at the top of their post history when you replied to this, but I can understand how in the rush to be the first person to question whether this was revenue or profit, you didn't have time to even take a cursory glance at OP's post history to see if they've mentioned their business before.

Now why does the type of business matter? Because, if you don't understand the sort of profit margins he's dealing with in a business selling digital products, then you probably shouldn't be asking these sorts of questions.

And this isn't specifically targeted at you. I see this question ALL THE DAMN TIME in this sub, and it's usually asked at times like this where it just don't make sense.

People complain all the time that seasoned/successful entrepreneurs don't post in this sub, and it's stuff like this. Like why the hell is this the most upvoted comment at the time I'm writing this reply? There are much, much, MUCH better questions you, and everyone else could be asking from a recent graduate that's done 100k in sales this year.

Or you could just offer your congratulations.

In perhaps not the optional way I was trying to express I would love more shareouts in these types of posts. Depending on for how much someone buys and how much money and time they invested into it, they would be better served with feedback than just compliments, before they are in over their head (I had a friend shoot up during covid but crash because he didnt do risk management for liquidity). Or perhaps it's great, then they can share out what worked along the way.

It's ok if you think only emotional milestone posts are cool and then we can have a polite debate about it, no need to trow away words like "ignorant" or get worked up

[–] RossDCurrie@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I dunno, I respectfully disagree that you were trying to add value If I am mistaken, then I apologize, but I stand by my statement that this sub needs to lose its obsession with asking that question.

Not that I think post OP is doing this, but I think e-commerce dudebros are why people are a little weary.

You'll see a ton of ads for "6 figure business in 6 months!" While neglecting to mention they made 100k at 30% GP and most of that 30% went to ads lol.

I did the same thing when I was young, nice one! Keep at it. I failed 4 times, had to take on salary jobs while trying to grow my business on the side but never gave up and now I got multiple successful businesses

[–] lanylover@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

u/Iceman_033 happy for you! I would only congratulate you if I knew what you are doing (roughly) and how much of it was your actual effort.

If you just want praise please tell your friends. If you want to contribute to this community, please share more details! :)

Thank you

Agree with some of the comments. I remember back in the day “I got five on it” which meant exactly as it states. $5 means fill the car 20-30 years ago gas we ride all night long , $5 throw in on a fat sack of Mex shwag, etc etc.. $5 was key as a youngster… this is 2023 on the brink of 2024… 🤦‍♂️ everyone in the world used to say “6 figures & we good”………. This world is different son, if ya at 20 something got in bank $100k then you have a chance actually win instead of what usually happens. Seriously, humor us all as well as make us proud that you will be one of the champions that start an empire instead of thinking $100k is nothing more then a $20 bill

Much love now go on & make it happen 💯❤️

did ya net or gross that fam? Also , blessings to ya regardless. Sadly, $100k in 2023 is basically $20 compared enough not to even been married . I truly hope someone comes with an answer to this question … “why in 2023 have no kids, have no ex wives

[–] LazyLeadz@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Who writes like this? Jesus bro

[–] Inevitable_Primary30@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Someone that was keeping it real. Sorry a few drinks in…. Now, tell me how $100k is enough for a single man to be okay in 2023 bro

[–] thefiredragonslayer_@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Congratulations my man

[–] Sherlockian_Holmes@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Can I borrow $5000 till never? 🎃

[–] Herbloara@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Great accomplishment, but how is this worthy of a post?? You don't include what your business is, or even the field. Also you didn't include any tips that helped you or really anything productive so it just comes across as a brag post rather than encouragement or help.

[–] Fancy_Economist8458@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Congrats! What kind of business do you run?

[–] Hot-Lock9600@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

23 as well . Any advice ? I’m barely starting but it’s been tough to push through with marketing (I do a service based business )?

[–] MsebeqLmeme@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

gross, net would likely be $95,000

[–] Puzzleheaded-One6624@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Congrats bro that's a great achievement

[–] Human_Ad_7045@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Congratulations.

Now you have decision to make; grow revenue, increase margins or the ultimate juggling act of both.

Whatever you do, don't let margins suffer at the expense of growing revenue. There's nothing impressive about the business owner doing $250k or $500k year, but can't pay his rent.

[–] Civil_Use_1017@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Keep up the good work!

[–] maryberry192@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

So happy for you!!! You should be so proud ✨✨✨✨

[–] SashaShadowolf@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I am super happy for anyone winning in life, but could you share the lifeline? How can we join you? Ultimately. I will not see a single cent due to where I live currently, but it ain't about me. We can all win, if we do it together.

[–] homerinthebushes@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago
[–] gamafranco@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Congrats! Keep and eye or margin and cash-flow. If you only look at one thing, look at cash-flow.

You can look at other metics later, but cash flow is king in the first years.
