I mean the guy gets $40 million, and it's not like he's doing exceptionally well. He's putting up 16-4-9, while teammate Sengun (makes $3.5 million) puts up 21-9-6; also keep in mind Vanvleet plays 37 minutes compared to Sengun's 32 minutes a game. Obv I understand Sengun's salary is so low because of his rookie contract, but I can't wrap my head around how VanVleet makes that much money for slightly above average stats. yall agree or nah?

Houston had a budget surplus they were forced by to spend. So they gave Fred an extra 10-15 million a year. I think Houston understood he wasn't worth a max contract.

Well Harden was the other choice, so... Plus Houston was pressed to spend that cap money and Ime was looking for vet leaders. Regarding him being paid more than the guys you mentioned, their time to get the bag will come. FVV getting paid isn't mutually exclusive from those dudes getting their big payday.

No one thinks he should be making more than those stars.

At least he's your issue now lol.

Grump VanVleet isn't really overrated but he's definitely overpaid.

VanVleet is getting paid big bucks for mediocrity? Sounds like he's living the dream. Must be nice to get paid that much for just being okay at your job. Just saying, give me $40 mil and I can put up slightly above-average stats too. But hey, what do I know? I'm just a random redditor who barely graduated high school before dropping out of community college.

Name a better player

I'll wait

Overpaid sure, but most knew what he was

Overpaid ≠ overrated

[–] Emergency-Effort1994@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

he's there for his leadership, heck if ur looking at skills only yes he is overpaid.

But they had to bring in a guy that can playmake, play defence and lead a young team. For a young team, I think spending money on a quality leader like vanvleet is worth it.

Houston was desperate to sign a “star player”

The term would be overvalued not overrated.

But a team like Houston has played well the first 10+ games and a much better trajectory than Pistons who were basically the same caliber last year

FVV is overpaid but since so much of the team is rookie contracts they can afford it. It’s hard to put a price in turning around a franchise but since Rockets can afford to “overpay” FVV, he’s not really being overvalued for the franchise.

The answer of who is most overvalued might still be Tobias Harris making near $40m this has prevented Philly from truly getting a serious 3rd option since Jimmy left. Embiid is 30 this season and his best teammate is a blossoming star. Not saying Philly “lucked out” but Maxey was not a sure shot to pan out.

Embiid is supposed to be in the middle of his prime but so is Giannis and Jokic both with 2x the MVPs and a ring. Embiid is consistently missing more games than the other two and doesn’t quite seem to have the team around him to win. Sixers are good but not serious contenders since they haven’t proved to me they can make it past the second round.

A large reason for this is Tobias is eating up too much of the cap. For perspective a guy like Jalen Brunson 2 years from now is going to make around $15m less than Tobias Harris is making right now. Imagine Brunson and $15m player or just Tobias Harris.

This highlights why contracts aren’t the same. Rockets can overpay due their timeline. Sixers with an injury prone 30+ can’t afford not to give him a Jimmy Butler. And as soon and Tobias’ money is freed up, Maxey gonna be looking for a $200m extension.

I would add on that it’s not just that Houston could afford it. They wanted some veteran presence on a young team & knew they would need to pay more to land someone of FVV caliber to attract them to Houston. It’s about his leadership and experience that he can share with a young team in still in the growing process. Which does add value that won’t show up on the box score

This is actually one of the dumbest posts lately

Guys, why isnt a good player locked in a rookie contract with no legal way of getting more money now

being paid less than a former all star that went into free agency jn his prime and signed with a young vet less chaotic team with ample cap space who desparetly needed leaders and a point guard to control the team and instill a work hard team culture

[–] ImTheBestNerd@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Nah he actually does a lot for the rockets on both sides of the ball. Great pickup for them.

[–] Ok_Librarian2474@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Rockets are kinda good its fine

[–] closed_n@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

There are literally only two players in the league with more assists per game than him lmao. Overpaid, not overrated.
