It is, but the work/life balance is going to be fucked for a while, putting it bluntly. If you're willing to put in the work it can definitely happen.

Not if you pick the right business and like what you're doing.

+1.

It's so easy. Just look at others doing it and you know the answer is yes. Everything is possible.

[–] User1542x@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Have been doing this for a while. Corporate job and doing real estate on the side - mainly buy/fix/rent/maintain. Rentals are relatively passive management and when I need something fixed I have my list of dependable contractors.

Working on starting up a business consulting firm now, but more prep and networking vs doing work yet - plan to transition full time next year.

[–] ExecutionOnly@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

No, no one in the history of the planet has EVER done this. You either work full time and go right to sleep (don't worry about the other 6 - 8 hours, we're not good at math based on this question) OR you work on your business.

Good luck 👍🏽

Depends on your situation…

If you have children/family it’s the only option. If you’re young and have parental/family support. Then you can devote full time to your business and only your business.

[–] nekooooooooos@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

what about if you have no budget, is it possible to start with a 0 from scratch?

Working full time job and working $35k a year profit side business. Yes, sleep is lost. Yes, it can be done.

[–] Sirj-art@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I'd say the majority of the businesses start either as a hobby projects or part time work, while having full time job (everybody have to pay their rent and bills). If after working your 9-5, commuting, spending time with your family, you still have enough passion and determination to work on something or build something - it's a good indicator that it can grow into a successfully business. In my experience, building a business requires spending sleepless nights and working beyond your comfort limit to get it going. And I'm not talking about not sleeping 1-2 nights or working on it a couple times a month (this can work too but most likely will take long years to take off), I'm talking about having 2-3-6 month of working on it every day. Choosing to work on your business instead of watching Netflix, YouTube, playing games, scrolling reels or tiktoks, going to clubs/bars. Spending your vacation time and days off to work on this business instead of traveling somewhere.

It sounds tough but if that's something your passionate about or truly belive in - you wouldn't even notice it. When I was building my first couple businesses it wasn't even a choice - "do I watch a netflix or work on my business?" I forgot for several months that social media or any entertainment existed"

Short answer - yes

Things to consider

  • How are you defining success (revenue, profit, # of employees, valuation, reputation, fulfillment, etc.)?
  • Are you solving a problem or doing something that you like/are good at?
  • Do you know how to structure, build, and grow a business?
  • Are you "good enough" at product/service, marketing, sales, fulfillment, operations, management, etc.?
  • How much cash flow will you need?
  • Will you keep going when it gets boring?
  • Why do you want to start a business?

It is possible and many people have done it/are doing it. A lot more people underestimate what it takes and quit.

Being an employee and being a business owner are very different and require very different skill sets.

The best way to find out is to do it and see what happens.

For me with kid in college, family to support, not enough capital and bills to pay, it’s my only option. But hopefully I can ramp up the business enough to transition to the start-up full time. Even if I take a 50% paycut and lose insurance…

[–] Future_Court_9169@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Yes, moving on.

if your single and have a full time job and want to build something, outsource it. You will have a peace of mind that its getting done. If you are going to do it yourself it will take time, in some cases years and you will either give up or the idea will be outdated. I work full time job, have a kid and am married. I started working on a product but was not able to complete it in two years. Lot of learning curve dragged me down and took a toll on my family life. So I got a second job and paid to get it completed in 3 months. Still working on getting few issues resolved and quite my second job as well. About to launch the product next month. Just stay motivated

Not only is it possible but that’s how many did it, myself included. The hustle is real, and isn’t for the faint of heart.

Yes sleeping 8 hours a night is overrated…. But yes.

But some people only learn how to swim when thrown in the water.

I started like it, a few years back with that same idea ….keep working full time and getting my business started at night and also on week-end. After a few days my former boss heard about it. knowing I was going to be competition, he fired me on the spot…. He told me to clean my office and leave. I had two young kids and debts… I had to explain my wife, who was full time mom, and me the only provider, the day I had and the situation we were in.

Anyways the following day I started hustling full time to get it running asap. And working 70 hours a week. In retrospect getting fired was the best thing that could happen to me.

I had to learn swimming much faster, with no safety net.

yes, it is possible, but you should have a balance between both work .

[–] TZER_Tunes@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

In the process of doing this now and it is certainly tough to juggle both, but definitely manageable. Just be sure to love the business or at least have a near-term plan (either to transition to your business full time, or to hire people to operate it eventually).

[–] CarelessCoconut5307@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Yes, alot of businesses start that way

however, there are certain things that will remain a side hustle or side income, until you properly put in the appropriate work, in my opinion

[–] Umbrabyss@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Yup. Started mine by doing research and working on my website in between the 400 phone calls I had to make per day selling insurance. Once that was done and I had my launch night and made more money in a night than I would all week, I quit. That was the stupid, risky part. But that was nearly 3 years ago now and I don’t regret it.

People can’t even find a time for themselves while working.

[–] ElectronicResponder@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Most successful stories start with this, side business grows larger than main job, founder quits job and focuses on business 100%.

[–] SaltMaker23@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

To start yes

To make it successful no

[–] jameschowler321@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

You can start the business yes. But will have to cut down hours from the main job as your business grows.

[–] FatefulDonkey@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Well instead of sitting writing this question on Reddit.. you could be working on your project. Or are you doing it during business time?
