Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Police said that the father-son duo would often get drunk and fight with each other. The mother left the home last week when Deepak beat her up.

I know this will piss people off but alcohol has to be one of the worst drugs. People, and I've been there, make horrible decisions when they're drunk. Obviously not everyone but man, "hold my beer" is a meme for a reason.

I got older and found out I was more sympathetic to prohibitionist than I thought.

Alcohol is wild. And it blows my mind how its common that the biggest consumers are 18-30 year olds who barely have any self control. So many lives cut short by bad decisions from a single night.

I just wish people were more aware of how dangerous alcohol is. You can become so addicted to alcohol that you can die from the withdrawals if you stop cold turkey.

There's so much fake bro science surrounding alcohol, too. "Alcohol won't change who you are, it will just make bring out the real person." Sorry bros, but alcohol has a profound physiological and psychological impact over time when consumed in large quantities, and for many people it's inevitable that they will consume ever increasing quantities over time due to its highly addictive properties and the fact that it's one of the only drugs that can actually kill you in the withdrawals. I'd categorize it with the hard drugs like opioids and benzos.

This is really present in my mind right now because I quit drinking in 2017, and I recently feel like I've lost one of my closest discord buddies to alcohol. He had a vibrant server that I modded, but he's gotten blazing drunk and burned it all down. I know it's the alcohol because I recognize the pattern and behavior -- that was me. I've lost a brother to alcohol. He's technically still alive, but not really. Not really there anymore at all.

I stick to things like weed and coffee. Alcohol sucks donkey ass. I've never seen a good thing come from alcohol.

yea drinking sucks ass

No, you're right. Although some people just get sweet and adorable. But most drunk I've seen were rather embarrassing or just dangerous. Or both.

Well it is/can be. But how high on any drug would you have to be to kill your own son over a game? Also he had enough sense to run away later, meaning he was aware of what he did.

I've gotten drunk many times and never gotten anywhere close to killing someone. Maybe the problem isn't alcohol but bad personalities.

UP is always in the headlines for awful things...

[–] CeruleanRuin@lemmings.world 2 points 2 years ago

All theses UP posts are not really news any more than Casey Anthony was news.

Forget who commented it the other day, but they're right: UP really is the Florida of India.
