I saw a discount on the Moondrop Chu 2, I hadn't really used any IEM so I wanted to try them.

When I first got them they were kind of uncomfortable, after a few days of use I could tolerate them but for some reason I just didn't really feel like using them. I seemed to prefer my laptop speakers.

Also the sound, I'm definitely not a audiophile but I didn't really like the way the CHU2 sounded. The higher tones were too harsh even when enabling bass boost.

Is it just an issue with this model or should I look for over ear headphones instead?

Maybe you're not getting a proper seal? My EQ'd near field "monitors" sounded quite similar to the Chu 2s.

It can be the fit or the sound signature or both.

You can try changing eartips, unless you're sure that the IEM is already well-fitted in your ears. I used IEM for years but silicone tips were never for me. Shure olive tips are the ones for me. I can use them for hours without feeling itchy at all, plus they provide the best fit for my ears, giving the complete sound the IEMs are supposed to provide.

I had a few IEM, including Moondrop Chu 2 but now i settled with Truthear Hola. The comfort is the best with Hola, sound quality is decent too.

I think it's worth to try rolling tips to get the perfect seal, if that's doesn't work then maybe Chu 2 is not for you. You can try other IEM or just use whatever comfortable with you i guess, everyone have different ears.

Good luck.

I've had both CHU and CHU II, CHU II sound much better but they are both very uncomfortable for me too, I am sensitive to 3kHz frequency most chi-fi brands love to emphasize, my current go-to IEMs are CVJ Mirror, they used to be $98 when they came out in 2021 but you can get them for ~$45 these days, sound completely different from CHU(II) and fits me much better, nozzle is a bit wide so I prefer different tips than compared to some other IEMs I used in the past

You're dismissing all IEMs on the basis of a set that costs $16?

[–] Legion070Gaming@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Kinda yeah? Just confirmed to me that I don't really like inserting stuff in my ear

Well yeah in that case iems aren't for you. Although I would still try different ones because it seems to be a fit issue. I had the same problem with dusk and variations. Couldn't get the fit right and long term comfort wasn't there. Perhaps try bullet type iems like final audio e-series?

Then I'm not sure what exactly you're looking for here.

Try autoEQ to Sony IER-Z1R (only to 5-6k hz), it fixed that harsh tones for me, and little bit more bass.

I want to like ear buds and IEMs but I cannot stand having anything in my ear canal for long periods of time.

They are too harsh for me too. And I prefer bullet style IEMs for comfort!

I tried Final Audio E500 for gaming and they work really well. Sound is not the best but highs are smooth. I also like KZ Ling Long for music listening sessions.

If you want to try again, look for reviews to know more about the sound signature of an IEM. Be careful with the overall size/shape, also the nozzle diameter can be uncomfortable (like Truthear Zero for me)
