They were traded for one another in the offseason. Essentially a near 1:1 trade the Raptors and Spurs agreed on. How come Kawhi was booed while DeRozan was cheered? I mean Kawhi brought home a title while DeRozan kept choking in the playoffs. Why does he get cheered for this but Kawhi got all the hate?

[–] TO_Sports@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I dont think he actually watches basketball at all.

[–] Inevitable-Paint-650@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Great year to start watching

[–] WrongMomo@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Because one of them wanted to leave and held the franchise hostage by not playing to get his way. The other wanted to stay and got traded.

Cos Kawhi is lowkey one of the divas in the league

It's not always about the chip.

Derozan wanted to stick with Toronto, wanted to play well enough for people to want to join them instead of looking for a way out, and had, relative to the franchise's history at the time, experienced success.

And those endeared themselves heavily to the Toronto crowd. Especially since this was the team that had a few major issues with other players not wanting to play for them. (Alonzo Mourning refusing to play after the VC trade, and John Salmons "divine intervention" being the final straw in Bosh deciding his time in Toronto is over).

You compare that with Kawhii's relationship with the Spurs towards the end of his time there and it's night and day.

Straight facts, deebo was ride or die for the team and city. and i think a lot of people related to him and his story coming to toronto from LA, no passport and family couldnt visit until they got theirs, he put his nose down and got to work. So mad he couldnt win the chip with toronto, its why he got 2 welcome back videos lmao

DeMar brought his family to boo the Raptors instead and it worked last year.

[–] Zestyclose-Beach1792@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

You gotta be kidding me.

[–] SupremePistachio@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Are you ok?

[–] bb1432@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

DeMar has never been anything but a model teammate. He didn't ask out, even when he got traded to a place he never asked to be.

Kawhi signed a contract and started acting like a bitch

[–] DigOlBick99@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Because Spurs fans are miserable

[–] iam_soyboy@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

One demanded a trade, and the other was traded because of said demand

[–] Krock23@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

DeMar is one of the most beloved athletes to play for the Raps org. Top 3 probably. It hurt for everyone to see him go. When Chris Bosh left for Miami, DeMar publicly stated at 19 that it was his team and he's got us.

He worked obsessively on his craft and got better every year because he cared so much. He was a consummate professional and an amazing contributor to the community.

We're the second most successful team in the 2010s for the two reasons and its DeMar and Kyle. They made us relevant and will get statues here one day and their jerseys in the rafters.

Calm yourself. Without Kawhi yall would be known as an 2nd round exit team that played good only in regular season. Kawhi did in 1 season what Derozan couldnt in 6.

Plus on the championship team Lowey wasnt even the 2nd best player.

Kawhi should get a statue.

[–] Krock23@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I can already tell you're not the sharpest knife in the drawer. I would keep my opinions to myself if I were you. Jesus Christ read a book.

[–] shaheedmalik@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Demar didn't want to leave.

[–] gochuuuu@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

[–] mug3n@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Game of zones is sorely missed

[–] Overall_Ring_887@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Will always love demar.

[–] Bonesawisready5@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

This can all be fixed by Kawhi coming back this offseason to spurs to mentor Wemby and Vassell plz god lol not happening but Pop playing the long game

[–] twomigs@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Demar fought till the end. Kahwi made excuses till the endq

[–] trevortins@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Demar is the first star to actually stay and try to win in Toronto but they traded him against his wishes.

[–] mug3n@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Because DeMar didn't want to leave lol? Like dude was as close to a Toronto lifer as there was.

He gave 10 years to this team and while he didn't have the best playoff performances, he was still part of the reason why we consistently placed top 3 in the East.

[–] bigpimpin8558@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Kawhi wanted out. Demar wanted to be a raptor for life.

[–] GoodMorningSpliff@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He isn’t a fun huy

[–] WHLonghorn@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

this might be the worst question ever asked on here

[–] AuContraire_85@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

OP really out here claiming the king of the nephews crown

[–] Tackis@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

You really should know about this, but he was diagnosed by the Spurs with a degenerative knee (the correct diagnosis) and eventually cleared to play. However, Kawhi and his "camp," most notably his uncle, found this unfavorable for his career and began to seek numerous second opinions with other doctors in order to finally conclude on something more desirable. This led to Kawhi leading the Spurs on and saying that he'd "be back soon" but to never come back. Additionally, his uncle demanded an office job with the Spurs and was refused, starting a domino effect that resulted in his uncle effectively stating that his nephew no longer wanted to play with the franchise and Kawhi began to completely ghost the Spurs organization at this point. (see incident of Spurs execs looking for him in a hotel.) He and his camp then decided to completely nuke his trade value resulting in a trade that propelled the Spurs out of contention. It is also notable that his uncle has since been investigated for demanding certain things, such as a private plane and part ownership of the team, from both the Clippers and Lakers organizations in order for them to have the opportunity to sign his nephew. Anyone in here claiming the Spurs were at complete fault is either willfully ignorant or wrong.

[–] D_Simmons@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Spurs fumbled Kawhi but they won't admit it so they blame him for some reason.

[–] RideOk2631@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Get roasted man. Such a dumb post
