Discussion of climate, how it is changing, activism around that, the politics, and the energy systems change we need in order to stabilize things.

As a starting point, the burning of fossil fuels, and to a lesser extent deforestation and release of methane are responsible for the warming in recent decades: Graph of temperature as observed with significant warming, and simulated without added greenhouse gases and other anthropogentic changes, which shows no significant warming

How much each change to the atmosphere has warmed the world: IPCC AR6 Figure 2 - Thee bar charts: first chart: how much each gas has warmed the world. About 1C of total warming. Second chart: about 1.5C of total warming from well-mixed greenhouse gases, offset by 0.4C of cooling from aerosols and negligible influence from changes to solar output, volcanoes, and internal variability. Third chart: about 1.25C of warming from CO2, 0.5C from methane, and a bunch more in small quantities from other gases. About 0.5C of cooling with large error bars from SO2.

Recommended actions to cut greenhouse gas emissions in the near future:

You could tell me that Trump will shit in a box and mail it to me, and it wouldn't change my opinion of the guy or the election. Trump will do bad things if elected. It will be bad for Americans, bad for the world, bad for our future. Trump is an existential threat to humanity, not just because of who he is and what he will do, but because he represents the worst of humanity.

If you're in the US, the important step is not feeling that he is awful, but being motivated to put in volunteer time and/or kick in money to stop him.

But, if you can't do that, you'd better fucking make the time to vote next year! If you don't vote, the nazis win.

Well, unless you're a nazi, then don't vote and go fuck yourself.

I'm willing to chip in $50 to that guy that does that thing that we can't openly talk about but all secretly wish.

Edit to add the obligatory /s

I think the FBI may be able to figure out the cryptic meaning.

I swear, this guy is fucking monster. Bullshit that the media covers him like a serious person. The fuck is wrong with america?

I'm certainly tired of seeing SNL give him free air time. It's like they didn't learn their lesson the first time.

The media are owned by the same people that funnel dark money to Trump. That's what

I mean, that seems like the least of the problems if he gets re-elected. The end of democracy in the US would be the bigger one.

Sure there are other big issues but we talk climate in c/climate

The entirety of the GOP wants to cut out renewable energies in favor of more fossil fuel drilling. They say they want to bring down energy costs...

Hey dumbasses, the way you bring down energy costs is by supplying the system with cheaper-than-fossil-fuels renewables! More drilling isn't going to solve that problem, less dependency on oil will.

But it's just obvious that these people are bought by the oil industry.

“Yea but maybe we need someone to tear it all down…”

Says the dumbest, most ignorant take ever. AKA most of his voters.
