Other parts of his game are better developed but it's safe to say the jumper has a LONG way to go

wait...

Franz and Keegan Murray are bottom 6?

that is not what I expected...

[–] frostysbox@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Franz has never been a three point guy. I think he averages like 30 maybe per year. Mo actually might have better stats than him - but that’s partially a spacing issue with our team - and how awesome he is at the Eurostep.

It’s very rare that Franz gets an open three look to begin with so most of his are contested. When he actually gets an open look they are beautiful though. :)

It's almost like...some stats don't tell the whole story.

[–] dvf_latte@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

lol they tell that they are shooting poorly, don´t mean they are useless tho

I don’t think it’s a problem long-term. The Spurs are tanking and not trying to win this season and next. Wemby might as well get some three-point reps in.

[–] YoungThrowaway_@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

He has a bad habit of chucking when he's gassed, I think. Obviously he's bad from 3 but if he let's it come to him, in time he'll get better.

[–] icantreadmorsecode@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I honestly think Pop's system is stunting his game a little bit coz all of his brilliant flashes were at the beginning of the season

[–] qaswexort@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Pop is running no system. The other teams are adjusting, that's all

[–] dwrek24@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Someone mentioned Doc saying he rushes and ever since Doc said it, I can't unsee it. I think its a mix of adjusting to NBA speed, some chucks because he's trying to find a flow in less than optimal offensive conditions and then he has a ton of on target rim outs. That's purely anecdotal and unreliable but feels like he's always been unlucky.

He clearly has a good shooting stroke. His FTs are money and when he's not trying to be KD/Dirk with off balance midrange (and honestly sometimes even we he does) thar jumper is pretty consistent.

All good things in time.

[–] siphillis@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Solid-to-great everywhere else, but that three-ball just refuses to drop. Happy he's not losing confidence, but the volume can be a little hard to stomach at times.

[–] ArchimedesNutss@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

The Spurs have nothing to lose by letting him brick shots this year and next. Let him get reps in and learn the entire floor while expectations are low

[–] futurehousehusband69@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

they need to put me in the spurs I'd help him make some shots

[–] Agnk1765342@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Wemby really bamboozled people by just chucking tons of jumpers and then people only watched the ones that went in.

He’s a bad shooter. He’s always been a bad shooter, even in the 12th(?) best European league. He can still be a great Anthony Davis-style player if he gets better discipline defensively (and he probably will as he gets older), but at some point he’s gonna have to let go of this idea that he’s a sharp shooter. There’s really no reason for him to ever be pulling up like he’s KD.

[–] Picklepug13@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

He shot 27% on threes last year and 26% the year before. It's possible he's just not a great shooter from outside the arc lol

[–] tapk69@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

He never was, also imagine your team having the tallest player on the court every game so what you do? You get him as far away from the basket as possible in the 3 point line. He should be playing inside, focusing on free throws and shots near the basket. Another thing is that the 3 point shot in Europe is 1 meter closer to the basket so it will take him even more time to adjust.

[–] bpx28@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

the lebron/giannis shooting special

[–] Top_Frosting4290@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

"better prospect than Lebron James".. Ok

[–] Overall-Palpitation6@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Anyone who paid attention to Wemby's shooting splits in France surely would have expected this.

Being a willing shooter doesn't mean he's a good shooter yet.

[–] MH18Foot@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Spurs should feel embarrassed their 19 year old rookie from Europe is carrying the veterans.

[–] InsideHangar18@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

He honestly doesn’t even need to shoot threes. Just get Duncan to teach him to perfect that little turnaround off the glass Duncan used to do from like 6-12 feet out, no one in the league would be able to guard it anyway.

[–] shiny0ivpchkarp@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Spurs just don't have a good facilitator. If CP3 wasn't old, he'd be perfect for Wemby.

[–] Markel100@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

They are killing his numbers with this scohan experiment JJ was saying it all night all u had to do was let him catch it and rise over top.

[–] NoWayNotThisAgain@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Ehh, whatever. They’ll still give him ROTY.

[–] QuirkySense@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I'm just surprised the last isnt Jordan Poole.

[–] DangerouslyCheesey@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Poole at 28.6% isn’t far behind

[–] WillingLearner1@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Yeah he becoming a bust compared to all the expectations

Treball odee

[–] livejamie@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

26.7% might make him the best 3 point shooter on the Spurs right now.

Every time Zach Collins shot a 3 last night I died a little inside.

[–] Educational-Stick582@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

wembumyama 😆

[–] mysteries_fool@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago
[–] mayonaisecoloredbens@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Remember when mfs on this sub were calling wemby the next KD with DPOY defense 😂😂

[–] deck4242@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Being a franchise player at 19 years old with all the defense on you and the worst supporting cast ever do that.

[–] BitterJD@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

I thought Wemby was supposed to be a Center with guard skills. Instead, he’s basically just a volume shooter. His bread and butter should be unguardable hook shots.

Not to be a Bol Bol truther, but I’ve never seen ANY other player have the license to fail quite like Wemby. Maybe Q Rich with the Clippers.

[–] tomatobrew@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

He's 19 and the spurs would suck even if all wemby did was go for hook shots / only his best moves. Crazy to me that the spurs franchise of all places doesn't get the benefit of the doubt on how to develop players to be better, especially in a season where they don't win shit anyway.

Why didn't Pop draw plays for him to stomp on that short ass. GSW team? Why is he shooting 3s?

Statistics is statistics, but your interpretation is faulty.

[–] Beneficial-Highway22@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

This is not concerning in the slightest for a rookie even if he is a first pick

[–] shortsermons@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago
[–] DangerouslyCheesey@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

This is some kind of meta thing for Pop. He hates threes so much he’s going to take a giant with a soft touch who will soon become unguardable inside 12 feet and make him shoot 6 threes a game. I can just see Pop bellowing to reporters “Is this what you want?”.

[–] evetSC@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I have a question for people who are saying he’s good at mid range. Since when is 33% from mid range good? He has a good looking form, but he is absolutely not a good shooter right now. There’s a reason why he’s top 10 LEAST efficient 15+ppg player

[–] Proximity_Intel@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Doesn't matter. Keep shooting.

[–] desirox@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Spurs desperately need a good PG to help Wemby.

[–] Kenchan21@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

He’s 7’4 and shooting over everyone. How can you blame anyone but him?

[–] Exotic-Amphibian-655@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Somebody should get fired for this…

[–] DCJon@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Don't worry, once Keegan Murray is playing again he'll take that title over.

[–] BodegaDaddy@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

he about to go 7/7 next game

[–] Top_Frosting4290@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Yeah they've basically setup Wemby to be a disappointment. He'll be good though.

[–] IndigoGrunt@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Bro is a rookie and we holding him to ROTY standards, all-star standards and even some people superstar standards. Let him grow, he will be ok.

[–] Lopken@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Right now it feels like we are supposed to assume that he'll just flip a switch and become Kareem when gets bored of laying all these bricks. The scary part is he might have that potential, but I would feel alot better about Wemby if Pop just told him not to take any 3s for the next 5 games and only score inside so that we could actually get to see how it would look. There is all this talk about experimenting with Wemby so are we going to see him actually play as a center with an actuall PG?
