I introduced my wife to Funkwhale, and she's been ripping all of her old CDs from high school.

Not only did she not label all of the CDs, some of them were mixes from friends that had surprise mystery tracks added in as a joke.

In one case, she had a ska band cover of a song from Rocky Horror that even Shazam couldn't identify.

Thanks for tipping me off to this! Gonna check it out for sure!

I know someone who bought limewire pro! 🍋‍🟩

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I ran into a online file transfer site last week that was apparently run or owned by likewire. Was really surprised.

soulseek is quite good.

yuck... AI Tokens; Limewire really got into the gutters.

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

AI tokens? Is that something your seeing on a desktop page. I only see the send file option on Android. I don't even see a donations button

[–] DmMacniel@feddit.org 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I was curious about the company in the imprint (LMWR) and they deal with Ai Tokens and Blockchain and stuff all while wearing the nostalgic carcass of Lime wire.

Ah okay. I didn't look into them. I just used it to try to send some instructions on how to get a game install working on Mint when I didn't want to ask for their email address or give out my IP and a temp login so they could download it off my fileserver. (I haven't exactly put a lot of effort into security there)

Well "Creep" by STP if you want to be correct about it. I was mostly joking that this is how I first got to know this song via limewire as did a lot of other people before Youtube. I only found the correct title and artist like a couple years later lol.

I just noticed your username 🤦🤦🤦

The other day I had an ad on Spotify even though I pay for premium and I felt so offended I've been seriously considering this but with a couple SSDs...

[–] RisingSwell@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 1 month ago

That's about my limit with stuff. If I pay for ad free and then I get an ad from the people I paid to not see ads, the flag hoists again.

I can afford it easily so I'd rather pay, but I'm not dealing with ads.

[–] DmMacniel@feddit.org 4 points 1 month ago (2 children)

download your playlists and start your own media server (jellyfin or the like) :)

[–] ArgumentativeMonotheist@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Didn't know that was possible, I'll look into it. Thanks! 👍

[–] SubArcticTundra@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I can't be bothered to tinker with that stuff. I need someone to offer me a flatpak

[–] DmMacniel@feddit.org -1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Then don't and stay a subscription slave. Corpos love you.

[–] SubArcticTundra@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 month ago

Come on, surely you don't believe there are no people in between 'running their own docker server' and 'tiktok addicted iPhone user with 5 streaming subscriptions'?

[–] AHemlocksLie@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 month ago

If you've got a spare PC or one that's always online, you can host something like Jellyfin for yourself. Make your own streaming service. ~~With blackjack and hookers.~~

[–] underscores@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 month ago

what can't you just self host your own Spotify and use vpn to access your music remotely ?

[–] bulwark@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Viruses, as far as the eye can see.

[–] Karjalan@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Or porn, or porn that was a virus.

Occasionally just got a troll, but mostly innocent incorrectly named thing.

FightClubFullMovie.wmv that was actually some budget C grade movie no one had ever heard of or seen

[–] MacNCheezus@lemmy.today 1 points 1 month ago

Good thing they don’t work on audio CD. Worst you’ll get is annoying clicks and beeps.

Writing all the songs on the disc is amateur hour. You cant look at them while it's playing to skip to the right track unless you know the CD perfectly.

It's better to write it on the insert, even if it means you have to keep it in the case and not in a CD wallet

[–] lunarul@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

If you buy and keep your CDs in a cake box, then on the disc is the only place to write things.
