A place to politely discuss the tools, technique and culture of photography.

This is not a good place to simply share cool photos/videos or promote your own work and projects, but rather a place to discuss photography as an art and post things that would be of interest to other photographers.

Hello everyone, I hope you can help me out. I just found that one of my lenses has a very strange structure on the glass. It's not cracked, and I guess it's coming from storing condition maybe like a fungus or due to humidity/sun/heat...

Maybe someone could advise what it is and how/if I can get rid of this...

I uploaded a photo of it here: https://ibb.co/pf9cRD5

Thanks for the support!

That's lens fungus. You can UV light the lens to kill it but if it's affecting the pics now that won't cure it. It will just kill the fungus not repair the glass.

Fungus. Keep it away from the rest of your gear.

That’s the kiss of death to that lens.

It's fungus.

And its "lens".

It’s a fungus as many have said. You can kill it with UV light, but it will still be inside the lens. If you’re handy and are willing to disassemble the lens, then you can submerge the lens piece in hydrogen peroxide and then gently clean it off. 2nd option would be to send it off to a repair shop. There is also a chance that even if it’s cleaned off, that it may have etched itself into the glass.
