A place to politely discuss the tools, technique and culture of photography.

This is not a good place to simply share cool photos/videos or promote your own work and projects, but rather a place to discuss photography as an art and post things that would be of interest to other photographers.

Using Medium to host news articles gives me the ick. Especially since the author isn’t the primary source, or a news agency. The information in the article is covered by news agencies, notably Associated Press themselves.

Yeah, honestly, from reading about this, sounds like Sony's answer to Nikon's tech that embeds & encrypts the EXIF data in the raw image (and jpeg preview). But in typical Sony fashion its capability is vastly over claimed by fanboiz. 😅

Yeh, I'm pretty damn sure my Canon 5D MKII had some sort of functionality that was similar to this, with an option to embed some sort of digital-signature into the meta-data for validation (I think it was primarily designed for like police/evidence photographers or something).

Although from what I remember, it wasn't a very secure system, and someone manage to extract a private-key from one of the cameras. Allowing people to just falsify the verification signature afterwards.

Presumably nowadays with those sort of secure cryptography systems being far better understood and with dedicated chips for dealing with this sort of thing more easily available, I would imagine this newer solution will probably be more secure in the long-term.
