- Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
- Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
- When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
- Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
- Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
- Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
- Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
- Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
- Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
- Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
- Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
- Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
- First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
- Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
- No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
- Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
- Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

MODERATORS
Since I first heard of this 15 years ago, I still haven’t ever done this, because the box when it’s folded up, is just like a box of food in it. You can just eat out of it, as is, similar to a bowl. When you’re done, you don’t have to fold anything back up into a box. You just close it and put it in the fridge.

why the fuck are plates even the standard? i've been using lunch boxes to eat my food in and it works much better for everything.

Evolve the standard mug into a Corningware meal mug.
It's large enough for a full meal-sized serving, the lid is robust as fuck, and they come in multiple fun colors. You can microwave the shit out of it and the handle won't get hot.

Your access is limited to the upper layer. Depending on the food you might want to reach the bottom too or mix it easier.
no i'm not talking about eating out of a tall glass, i mean why don't plates have like a 2cm rim on them? i have absolutely no problem reaching things in my lunch boxes.

That works well. I used to put my salad into these flat bowls with a 5cm rim.
Protip: go find yourself some plates with a more classic design. E.g. I have Wedgwood Windsor plates. See that middle bowl area? it's about 1.5cm deep. See that rim? It catches anything that manages to escape the bowl area. Good plates are a solved problem, they just don't look like modern minimalist plates. Ever since I got these I don't think I've ever managed to lose anything over the edge of a plate.
now that's what i'm fucking talking about, that's actually intentionally designed for what it's used for. Holding the bulk of the food in the middle and then a wide rim to catch spillage and hold e.g. a big schnitzel.
The bowls from the same line are great too. Modern bowls have sides that aren't steep enough so they spill too easily.
But what if I want to reheat my leftovers and not have it contaminated with forever chemicals from the plastic inner lining?...
Is this true or is it just a coincidence? Like are you actually meant to unfold them? Because I've truly never seen anyone do it, but I'm also in America, but then again I don't know if these were made in America originally like a lot of Americanized Chinese food things.
Probably coincidence. Like the whole thing where people claim the hole in a cook pot handle is there to hole the stir spoon, or the little paper condiment cups are also some kind of saucer when pulled apart. No, it’s just the way it’s built, and plenty of pots don’t have the hole, and opening up the condiment cup is just a lucky coincidence. Also, you can bet that if the takeout container had a recommended alternate configuration it would be printed on the container to use it that way and/or you would regularly see it used that way. Any gimmick like that would be advertised to a potential customer. Not just “surprise, here’s this thing that’s been in use for 50 years and everyone’s a moron for not knowing the real use!”
More importantly, those little ketchup cups can be expanded if you pull out every second or third pleat to make it actually usable as a dipping tray.
