Not sure about Raptors fans nowadays, before Vince Carter retired, he mentioned wanting to retire as a Raptor or hope they'd retire his jersey. I remember at that time seeing a decent amount of Raptors fans not fucking with those ideas, so you know how much disdain they held even after many years. Spurs fans still constantly boo Kawhi extra hard to the point Pop did what he did last week. We had OKC fans hating KD, but it seem like the hate had slowly died down these past few years? Cavalier fans forgave Lebron after he returned and won one for them. These are the most obvious ones that came to mind.

Answers not limited to NBA players. Feel free to share if there are players of other sports that for whatever reason, had fans turn their backs on them.

Ben Simmons sure is loved in Philly.

Carmelo Anthony still has a strong hate group in Denver.

[–] bigbenis2021@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I’d argue Melo is a much more uniquely hateable player than VC.

Eric "I don't want to be here" Bledsoe

VC raptor fans/trauma victims are like 30+ y/o now

Michael Owen and every club he ever played for, but especially Liverpool

[–] True_Area8965@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Liverpool? Especially Newcastle mate.

He had 0 interest, took the bag and trash talked the city. Disgusting behaviour from a true vanilla midget.

Answers not limited to NBA players.

Cody Parkey and Chicago Bears fans. Choosing an NFL kicker is probably cheating though because it's a lot tougher for a kicker to be beloved than to be hated.

Booing the guy who helped win a championship and won a FMVP for your franchise is crazy no matter how he asked out lol

I will now hold a lifelong grudge towards the Nuggets just to show you how petty I can be.

A lot of Raptor fans have “buried the hatchet” when it comes to Vince. But definitely still a group that haven’t.

Neither forgive nor forget

I'm sure it's mostly generational.... no one under 25 now (maybe even 30) was old enough to really be upset when he left

Most Magic fans are only recently starting to open up to Dwight Howard. He is noticeably absent from all of the team produced nostalgia posts about old players coming back to show off retro uniforms or talk about the good old days.

His departure left a really bad taste in our mouths and sent the franchise into a 10+ year tailspin that we are only just recovering from.

uhh… Aaron Hernandez

Suns fans are not too fond of Suns legend Robert Horry I reckon

[–] Late-Channel7899@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Never played there

Mike Dunleavy

Feel terrible for VC

Dude wasted some prime years rotting in Canada.

[–] jgatch2001@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Jordan Poole with Golden State Warriors fans has randomly shot up to be a contender

[–] enigmaticevil@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I think once the truth about Vince's situation came out, fans have forgave him or at least I have.

Now Chris Bosh, nah I will never forgive him. Bro says he's ride or die T. then peace out to Miami asap yeah fuck him.

Us Raptor fans made amends with Vince back when he was on the Grizzlies. There’s a great video on YouTube from the grizzlies/raptors game when they played a tribute video to him and fans began booing it but then it evolved into cheers and a standing ovation. To the point Carter got emotional that the fans finally accepted him again. It’s actually a truly beautiful moment.

Luis Figo. He moved from Barcelona to their arch rival Real Madrid.

[–] XenaRen@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Kyrie Celtics.

[–] nsfwpenguins@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I am also a Spurs fan, I did not like how Kawhi handled the whole situation and although I will never forgive him I had moved on... Until Pop's rant last week.. Now I feel like I have to boo him extra just because of how much of a virtue signaling act Pop's whole shenanigan was.

Gordon Hayward and the Utah Jazz

[–] Intelligent_Pain_174@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Many became more neutral towards Hayward after his career in Boston fell apart.

[–] flyfishUT@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Fuck no we didn’t

[–] biggreenjelly25@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Deandre Ayton isn't exactly popular with Suns fans at the moment

[–] Impressive-Theory-27@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

AD and the pelicans, I believe there was a hurricane last year that hit New Orleans and there was a store that was completely empty apart from some chips with AD’s face on them, next level petty

[–] Gimme_Kudos@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Me and my group friends grew up on Vince Carter’s Raptors days. We all still love him to this day.

[–] _qkqh@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Alonzo Mourning should be hated more by Toronto

[–] No_Brilliant5888@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

We were complaining because VC wanted to shoot more 3's and bot attack the rim anymore. Little did we know he was ahead of his time 😆

[–] herseyhawkins33@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Porzingis and Knicks fans up there considering he asked out and backed away from being the franchise player

[–] bradleyvlr@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Eric Gordon is widely hated in New Orleans

It's not really the same because he was only there one season, but Dallas pretty unanimously hates Rondo

[–] 01001010_01000010@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Paul George and the Pacers, although we are starting to get better. Victor Oladipo is another.

[–] OkAnimator8181@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Carlos Boozer is despised by Cavs fans.

[–] ksptld@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Kawhi never played for the Spurs.

[–] morcic@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Not many people will understand this. You think Ray Allen leaving Celtics for Miami is a big deal. Euro Ultras could literally kill you for betrayal of moving to a rival.

[–] JDillaRIP@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Buddy Hield in Sacramento.

[–] areallyfatchick@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I don't think he's popular or good enough to garner much hate tbh.

[–] OUEngineer17@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Yeah, I don't think any of these come close to that one (some of these I had never even heard of).
