I like them burnt and let them catch on fire.

There are two types of marshmallow roaster inside me...

Yeah seriously, isn't that how you're supposed to roast a marshmallow? Dip it in the flame and then blow it out once it's cooked to your liking. I don't understand why the bird is upset. It's not a proper roasted marshmallow if it doesn't catch on fire.

Eat the outer layer then roast it again.

You can argue about slow-toasted or torched.

but true s'more aficionados know, you start with slow-toast to get the center nice and gooey, and then you torch it.

This is the way, "reverse-seared".

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Seal in those juices.

Marshmallows are like ogres, you've got to torch and eat the layers bit by bit before you slurp the gooey center.

When I was a kid we'd roast marshmallows over the stove coils. It just occurred to me that's probably an odd thing for a family to do.

[–] calliope@retrolemmy.com 3 points 1 week ago

I don’t find this odd at all! Just difficult to clean up if it drips on the coil.

Similarly, I have made a decent number of s’mores in the microwave with marshmallow fluff.

How did you get the marshmallow on the stick if the stick has branches on the end?

[–] wizbiz@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Pushed it all the way down from the handle end

[–] Baggie@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 week ago

Very possible, seems impractical to get off the stick once it's molten though

[–] Toneswirly@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

Keep changing the marshmallow out until you get lucky

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You're killing me, Smalls! First you take the graham, you stick the chocolate on the graham. Then you roast the 'mallow. When the 'mallows flaming, you stick it on the chocolate. Then cover with the other end. Then you scarf.

[–] Toneswirly@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Nah man you gotta toast it low and slow until its all goo inside but carmelized on the outside. You dont even need chocolate or graham cracker at that point

[–] Johnny101@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

In that case mine has completely melted and fallen into the fire

[–] PixeIOrange@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

I also want a clock that appears only if i need it :(

IMO You want to let the fire burn down to coals or at least smaller flames. It slows the rate of heating a bit so you can catch it before it lights, and it means you don’t have the flames moving and changing how close your mellow is to the heat source.

[–] Zoomboingding@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

You have to be constantly diligent or you'll fuck it all up completely in moments

[–] WraithGear@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

i like some mallo on my char
