The vegetarian part is irrelevant he could have choked on a vegetarian meal just as easily. The real claim here is that they could have diverted the plane but chose not to.

I think eating something with dislike and fear of finding a piece of meat in your bite might get you to chew more reluctantly and choke more easily. I remember that feeling of almost choking on my food when my parents forced me to eat stuff I didn't want.

Here's the real headline: 85-year-old passenger chokes on food, airline refuses to divert flight to help him.

A strict vegetarian could have just not eaten the meal. Noobdy was holding a gun to his head forcing him to eat it. Even on a long flight, you're not going to die of starvation.

I've been served meals I decided not to eat on transatlantic flights. I'd go get some breakfast after arriving, though there's no assurance that the food at most airports is going to be much better than what you get on a plane.

I mean I'd be knew beforehand he was going to choke on it he would obviously not have eaten the meal.

He was hungry enough to consume it, even though it clashed with his dietary wishes.

It's the blatant disregard for the well being of their passengers that is the main takeaway of this article.

The restaurants at airports have brand names I recognize. I have no clue how competent the chef is making the airline food on a flight.

There are assurances that the food is going to be better, because you know what you're going to get off the plane.

I completely think this is shitty, but if someone told me to “eat around” what I was severely allergic to, I wouldn’t eat. I would sue the fuck out of them afterwards, but I wouldn’t potentially kill myself.

There's no mention of him being allergic to anything.

[–] CuddlyCassowary@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I was referring to me, not the article. That’s an allergy I have.

Oh right. Apologies.

I don't think he was allergic to it, it says he choked on a piece of food. And if that's the case, then he could have just as easily choked on the proper meal if he had gotten it.

I was just referring to me, not the article. If an airline did that I would not eat that meal, but choking on it is insult to injury.

The location of the plane seems easy enough to proove, put the flight number into Flightradar24, and set the time to when the meal was served.

I would like to know what aircraft was used on the flight, I could see an A380 having trouble finding a suitable airport on the path north, but planes can turn around.
