JD Vance on Sunday said there will be deeper cuts to the federal workforce the longer the government shutdown goes on, adding to the uncertainty facing hundreds of thousands who are already furloughed without pay amid the stubborn stalemate in Congress.

Vance warned that as the federal shutdown entered its 12th day, the new cuts would be “painful,” even as he said the Trump administration worked to ensure that the military is paid this week and some services would be preserved for low-income Americans, including food assistance.

Still, hundreds of thousands of government workers have been furloughed in recent days and, in a court filing on Friday, the Office of Management and Budget said well over 4,000 federal employees would soon be fired in conjunction with the shutdown. The effects of the shutdown also grew Sunday with the Smithsonian announcing its museums, research centers and the National Zoo are temporarily closed going forward for lack of funding.

“We will hurt the American people more if we’re forced to vote for keeping affordable healthcare that might help people who aren’t white!”

Ok couch fucker. I hope you and all your ilk get sodomized by a red hot poker.

This implies they care about poor white people. They don’t want to help anyone but themselves and the mega rich. It is just easier to sell that they are going after the brown “criminal” people. It’s just marketing.

You’re right. I thought about editing my post but didn’t. However, yes, poor people they don’t fucking care about either. They only care about what makes them money.

You know this is someone who's never known retribution. Like no chance in hell ill ever fire/layoff that many people intentionally for no good reason and ever get good night sleep again.

These people are sociopaths. I have a small business where i deal directly with my customers from the first call till the job is done, and afterwards if needed as well. I have direct accountability for the work i do, and i wear it like a fucking badge because i take pride in my work. Accountability is something we've witnessed these assholes evade time and time again. Nobody ever pays the "iron price" for their actions when they're rich and connected, and the very few that do only wind up doing so because they didn't stay in their lane and pissed off someone even richer than they are. See Musk go around with his shenanigans before the '24 election and after, yet not a drop of accountability for him--even though he could absorb hundreds of billions in fines and still not give a single fuck. If the laws were actually enforced and all the loopholes were closed, none of these assholes would still be in power.

The thing is, this administration was going to do it anyway. It's not like the mass firings just started... They just have a new excuse.

[–] gAlienLifeform@lemmy.world 47 points 2 days ago

Weird how the reporter for this story had access to Friday's announcement that they were firing a whole bunch of people and Sunday's threat to do even more but somehow missed the news on Saturday that they were forced to rehire a bunch of the people they fired on Friday (arc). Maybe with this administration's lengthy track record of lies it's not the best journalistic practice to just unquestioningly repeat what they say or something.

[–] BlameTheAntifa@lemmy.world 33 points 2 days ago

Illegal firings. All of these are illegal.

Project 2025 was pretty clear about destroying the current gov't. I'm certainly not surprised at the past 266 days.

These people are holding the entire country hostage over their refusal to allow poor people to have some basic access to medical care.

The parallel with abusive relationships can’t be lost on everyone right? “Look what you’re making me do!”

[–] etherphon@midwest.social 13 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Fuck you stupid hillbilly, you can put on a suit but you can't fool anyone.

[–] Th3D3k0y@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

He isn't even a hillbilly, he is just stupid.

Most people, even the dumb ones, are seeing that there is zero correlation here. If anything, they are literally not even paying the people they consider "waste" right now.

There is simply no sense in any of this. It's just them doing shitty things after doing a thing that was so shitty even the democrats drew a line in the sand. Hell, even MTG is against it... How crazy does your conservative shit have to be for the woman who believes in Jewish space lasers to be like "oh no, that's nuts. Let's not."

They have the biggest boners of their lives right. A supposed excuse to further destroy America with maximum human suffering inflicted

[–] theneverfox@pawb.social 7 points 2 days ago

Yes, yes... Let the frustration flow through you. Whine even more, threaten all the jobs

[–] PrettyFlyForAFatGuy@feddit.uk 7 points 2 days ago

[–] thesohoriots@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

Gotta make sure that military is motivated to fight for the oil companies for another week.

Watch out! If you don't do as he says he'll do the thing he's going to do anyway!
