When he launched his campaign last week for a Massachusetts U.S. Senate seat, Representative Seth Moulton made sure that one of his first moves was to announce that he is returning campaign donations that he received from individuals affiliated with the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, and would no longer accept campaign support from the group. Also last week, popular podcast hosts Jennifer Welch and Angie Sullivan pressed Senator Cory Booker to answer whether he considered Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a war criminal; The Ringer’s Van Lathan told Governor Gavin Newsom that Lathan would not support a 2028 candidate who took money from AIPAC, resulting in the governor literally squirming and using the word “interesting” repeatedly; radio host Charlamagne tha God asked Governor Josh Shapiro if AIPAC donations improperly influence U.S. decisions on Israeli-Palestinian issues; and MSNBC’s Eugene Daniels asked Kamala Harris if Israel’s actions over the last two years constitute genocide.

Wow, who would have thought that keeping people informed and ignoring propaganda could change public opinion enough to finally scare a political party into doing the right thing.

It's almost like using your platform to tell the truth is a civic duty, and such a simple act could really have a huge global impact.

Good. Now refuse funding from palantir, Oracle and every tech billionaire that profited of Palestine genocide. They’re bringing their genocide tech here.

Maybe they are finally starting to get the picture that we've had enough of their shit. Shame they couldn't figure this out before the 2024 elections.

And the reactions from Newsome and Harris, when they were confronted on this, were ridiculous. I haven't seen the question to Governor Shapiro or his reaction so cannot comment.

They didn't, AIPAC knows that the brand is toxic and are having donors give directly to candidates or using different orgs.

[–] buddascrayon@lemmy.world 13 points 4 days ago

It's about god damned time!

[–] MajinBlayze@lemmy.world 46 points 5 days ago

Good, it's the bare minimum, but still... Good.

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 26 points 5 days ago

Well done Netanyahu: your genocidal crimes made the AIPAC brand too toxic even for Israel's bought politicians.

[–] Bonesince1997@lemmy.world 25 points 5 days ago

Decades of lying to people with Israel's supporters constantly trying to defuse their bad actions, I'm happy to see the day some truth is known more broadly. Way too late! And, if they have to pay consequences so be it. Israel deserves to pay for its crimes, just like everybody else. I hate them for their misinformation and death machine.

running away from AIPAC

Puts on the They Live glasses

continuing to take money under the table while pandering to small dollar donors during the primary season

I don't think you get to take money from the Israeli government if you don't continue to promote propaganda. Typical conservative hierarchy in action. Once you've served your purpose, your exchange is over. They may try to bribe you again, but if you refuse they have no use for you no matter who you are. Change my mind.

You know who is deeply involved with the Israeli government, despite their founder being an openly antisemitic far right Catholic?

(Weyrich's attendance at a Holocaust denial conference)

(Or how about when Weyrich wrote an Easter commentary accusing the Jews of killing Jesus.)

I know it seems like I can trace the Heritage Foundation to everything wrong with the world in 2025. That's probably bc they usually do have or had some part to play in everything wrong with the world in 2025.

I shit you not:

https://www.heritage.org/conservatism/commentary/revolution-principles-and-american-conservatism-now

On this week’s episode of “The Kevin Roberts Show,” we’re joined by Yoram Hazony, author of the new book, “Conservatism: A Rediscovery.” He’s also host of the National Conservatism Conference, president of the Herzl Institute, and chairman of the Edmund Burke Foundation. We dive into a discussion of nationalism, cover the history of the conservative movement, tackle some of the gravest threats to America’s existence emerging from the radical left, and hear why he believes Americans need to return to living more religiously devoted lives.

While it's not mentioned in the Heritage Foundation blurb, probably the most important detail about Hazony is that he just happened to be Netenyahu's former speech writer.

Also, just in case you were wondering if Peter Thiel funded the conservative foundation Hazony chairs and wrote a forward for his book, of course he fucking did.

Sure you do. Just vote the correct way and the money flows. Maybe not as much as when you're out there shilling professionally. But keeping your mouth shut (or issuing some meally mouth "I condemn Hamas and support a two state solution") is enough to keep stay in their good graces.

I know it seems like I can trace the Heritage Foundation to everything wrong with the world in 2025.

They're part of Matt Taibbi's Vampire Squid. Like, it's easy to trace it back to them, sure. And the Federalist Society. And the Mercers and Adelsons. And ALEC. And the Young Conservatives of Texas.

It's movement conservativism which, at its heart, is a project to extract labor value from the rest of the world at the highest velocity possible. A vast right wing conspiracy, as the saying goes.

[–] AcidiclyBasicGlitch@sh.itjust.works 4 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

True, but in addition to Heritage, Weyrich also cofounded or was involved in multiple conservative organizations responsible for a lot of the damage done in the U.S. since the early 70s (including Alec, Free Congress Foundation, The Freedom and Democracy Institute of Russia, Coalitions for America, council for national Policy, and others). He is considered one of the founding fathers of the New Right.

AIPAC is not the Israeli government or gets money from the Israeli government. There are enough people in the USA who like Israel to finance AIPAC.

[–] SkabySkalywag@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

Exactomundo.

[–] NauticalNoodle@lemmy.ml 4 points 4 days ago

That article repeatedly misuses the term "center-left."

[–] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 7 points 5 days ago

Don't let them. There must be consequences for genocide support. It must not be a cheap decision to make.

If politicians can count on being able to "my bad" away something as reprehensible as genocide support unscathed, they'll do it every chance they get.

[–] TheFogan@programming.dev 7 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I wonder if there's just a ticker in the DNC headquarters with public approval on stances.

Isreals genocide is still 50.2% favorability with the general public, we still support them.

50% on the dot.

Then again, I guess they'd need 2 tickers.

Every 5 million from AIPAC is an added 1% buffer for isreal, as long as they stay above 35% we still need to back them.

Holy shit they hit 32%, alright it's actually hurting more than the money helps.

[–] EndlessNightmare@reddthat.com 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Isreals genocide is still 50.2% favorability with the general public

Is that everyone, including Republicans (read: people who won't vote for them either way)?

[–] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago (2 children)

They pay attention to other voters?

[–] TheFogan@programming.dev 3 points 4 days ago

If anything it seems like that's where they put 99.9% of their focus. It wasn't Bernie Sanders that Harris went touring with for her late run push... It was Liz Cheny.

[–] VeryVito@lemmy.ml 2 points 5 days ago
