/c/TenForward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. Use spoiler tags in comments, and NSFW checkbox for posts.
This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

This is your periodic reminder that Gary Gygax was a sexist garbage fire of a man, even for the 1980s.

ha I went down the "did Gary Gygax play Neelix" path. No he's just in the first frame of this meme.

[–] TachyonTele@piefed.social 10 points 2 months ago

Lol thank you. I recognized the name, but in context i also wondered if he was Neelix

Damn you autocorrect! (For posterity, it said “sexiest”)

Stupid sexy Gygax

[–] DonPiano@feddit.org 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Hey now, let's not reduce him to his being a self-proclaimed "biological determinist" on gender.

He also quoted/referenced racists for his stances. (E.g. "Nits make lice" from Chivington, who killed Cheyenne people indiscriminately, gygaxed as a justification for why its lawfully good to kill orc babies https://www.reddit.com/r/DnD/comments/dtpgim/gygax_on_lawful_good/ )

It’s not exactly a secret. The man was openly and proudly sexist until the day he died.

I’m sure you can figure it out.

Huh. Well, “Women can play D&D just as well, they just don’t like it as much. I don’t know how it could be made to appeal to women such that they would” is, technically sexist.

But considering the huge amount of spewed garbage we see daily from people in power, this seems like . . . I mean, I was expecting something crass or really vicious or something.

Also TIL Lionel made pastel trains to appeal to girls. 🤷‍♂️

We do not stand for Neelix hate in this household

That man is a treasure!!

[–] MalikMuaddibSoong@startrek.website 23 points 2 months ago

Dad when someone insults Neelix

Janeway was keeping track of her torpedoes about as well as most tabletop players keep track of their arrows and food reserves.

[–] Jesus_666@lemmy.world 17 points 2 months ago

To be fair, 80% of the campaign consisted of the GM going "yeah, that sounds cool, let's go with it". When the players noticed, they took it to the extreme and described how they one-shotted the Borg Collective and insta-ported themselves back home. And got away with it.

Janeway keeping track of her torpedoes about as well as most tabletop players keep track of how many times I tell them to stay off their phones during the game...and to not metagame...

Ow, get out of my shame spiral.
