Translation - they were not expecting this announcement. Soon, Trump will order them to conduct test explosions just because.

Trump is going to build a modern Vasa at some point. And all his supporters will claim the ship is perfect even as it sinks.

"These are not nuclear explosions. These are what we call non-critical explosions."

FYI he's referring to nuclear "criticality," e.g. testing the non-nuclear explosives placed around core. To simplify, the yellow stuff here:

Fat Man Bomb

...That is totally fine. It's a good idea.

It's also a great escape from what Trump said. If you're energy secretary under Trump, this is exactly how you get out of this (and just hope Trump doesn't notice).

I think they had an out in the first place, but this one is even better.

I read Trump's post as, "Since everybody else is doing it, I'm ordering tit-for-tat testing." He thinks it's the 80s and we're behind on testing.

"...because of other countries’ testing programs, I have instructed the Department of War to start testing our Nuclear Weapons on an equal basis..."

It's great that conservatives have placed us in a position where we have to just kind of hope that the ramblings of a felon rapist acting as president don't become anything more than ramblings.

We can't take anything our "leader" says seriously.

"We're testing nukes!!!"

"Ok, grandpa. Time for bed."

But Kamala laughed funny and people were really upset about that single issue. So here we are. Crossing our fingers a felon rapist doesn't irradiate the planet.

Nobody's pushing the button on Trump's command. Soviets tried to launch twice and commanders refused orders.

What an odd thing to say unprompted.

[–] agedcorn@lemmy.world 6 points 12 hours ago

Not really unprompted and likely in relation to Trump's recent statements that the US would restart nuclear weapon tests.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 5 points 17 hours ago

I believe it. We don't seem to plan before doing things anymore

[–] ThePantser@sh.itjust.works 36 points 1 day ago

So they are totally planning nuclear explosions. Everything is opposite day with these clowns.

[–] Greddan@feddit.org 26 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Unplanned nuclear explosions however...

"Surprise!"

The bad thing with US government is that nothing ever changes. The good thing with government is that nothing ever changes.

[–] ILoveUnions@lemmy.world 3 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

If you think this isn't changed, you are blind.

[–] Korkki@lemmy.ml -1 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Nah, you just mistake Trump's "aesthetics" and constant PR disasters for a change in substance of how US is fundamentally run and functions.

[–] ILoveUnions@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

You are blind. He's changed many policies and functions of the states for the worse. ICe, anti union policies, anti monopoly policies are tossed to the wayside, selling out the country for a dime. He's not running like usual.
