I have a theory that covid fucked the brains of people up bad. Mental decline has been pretty drastic ever since covid.
shit has been going on alot longer than 4-5 years, you were just more isolated from their stupidity because they were less emboldened.
people have a way of taking off their masks when republicans come to power, personally i prefer this to the faux-civility of establishment democrats.
Most of these people were broken before 2019
there is documented neurological damage associated with COVID-19. additionally, not engaging with social activities reduces brain function. plus we have 23 years of teaching to tests instead of teaching to teach. we are in a perfect storm of bullshit to enable disconnected misanthropes to take over
Man, it would be so easy to show proof of this if it happened.
But Musk paying millions for votes (in a "lottery") is a-ok though.
As was bussing Trump supporters to DC for the January 6th riots.
And bussing supporters and political operatives to Florida for the Brooks Brothers riot that stopped a vote recount and essentially handed Republicans the presidency in 2000.
They've been refining these tactics - while baselessly accusing their opponents of using them - for decades. The "victory at any cost" mentality took over because its adherents kept winning due to nobody prosecuting them for their blatant crimes.
It's all projection. They need to do it to win, so they assume everyone else is doing it

If protesters were paid, I'd be one of the 1%. I've been boycotting Nestle for DECADES.
Not that they can come to logical conclusions, but have they ever considered who is supposedly paying them if all the billionaires and corporations are supporting Trump and the fascist government?
It's all valid projection. The Jan 6 folks had free bussing and likely many were paid. Republicans are trained to accuse others of the very things they do. The criminals don't worry now that the commander in crime and pedophilia has their backs.
I was browsing conservative accounts on X with xcancel and other nitter instances yesterday to get a feeling on their reaction about the attacks on the 2nd amendment. What shocked me the most was how many of them had questionable content of underage girls in their feeds, it’s really disgusting and actually explains why they don’t have a problem with Trump being a rapist and pedophile.
Why george soros of course. Who else. They have no imagination. Israel superfans accuse their protesters of being paid too, won't own up to whom is supposedly paying them, its soros when they do, if they think they are talking to a friendly. Sort of ironic seeing as soros is jewish, and a target for conspiracy theories.

Where does one apply to be paid to protest? With the number of Americans living paycheck to paycheck I would love to be able to direct them to a resource that will provide them some support while they stand up to tyranny.
Trees exploding in the cold isn't an urban myth. I've heard it, and seen the aftermath. It's gotta be really cold. Like -40 cold, but ya fact, not myth.

I think the urban myth part was some of the photos being shared that showed very dramatic results. There was one right here on lemmy that someone posted from the wikipedia page on exploding trees without bothering to read its caption - it that had been destroyed by a lightning strike.
Yes, exploding trees are real. The sap in them freezing is what causes them to explode, although maybe the confusion is that people expect a fireball or smoke when something explodes? I don't know, but I've seen a lot of people saying it's an urban legend even though it's real.
Also, yes, fuck this guy. If we were getting paid, we'd be filthy rich.
When it gets real cold the trees make like popping and cracking noises. But we don't get -40 below here, got to -25 just a few days back though. Anything below 0 I hear the noises occasionally from the trees.
