Oh NOW it's a conversation they're willing to have. Not after 20 years of school shootings.

Fucking hypocrite cunts.

[–] tidderuuf@lemmy.world 59 points 3 days ago (1 children)

The NRA and gun rights groups have condemned Trump's rhetoric.

Seems like it's just the UltraMAGA typical bootlickers that are rolling over for Trump.

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 32 points 3 days ago

Anything that fractures the republican base is a plus

Remember when he told people to get over it the day after a school shooting?

But protestors getting murdered I by his this is when he calls for removing guns... From the protestors.

[–] HermitBee@feddit.uk 1 points 1 day ago

It's nuts right? If they ban guns from protestors, what reason will they have to shoot them? What deadly weapon will they say...

Oh right, cars.

[–] devolution@lemmy.world 134 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (17 children)

Hahaha children are shot in the face. Who cares. A white man packing a concealed weapon is murdered by ICE. Oh noes we must have gun control!

Get the fuck out of here.

Edit: I'm laughing incredulously because the situation is so fucked.

[–] unexposedhazard@discuss.tchncs.de 50 points 3 days ago (1 children)

And that white man didnt even USE his gun. So fucking funny.

[–] TheFogan@programming.dev 26 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

It's about the feeling of safety. I mean could you imagine how terrifying it must feel just walking around a school, dragging a kicking and screaming 10 year old out and think to yourself... what if one of these kids has a gun and starts shooting! We all see it on the news every day... but it's so much easier to watch when it's just little kids trying to get about their day getting shot. It hits so much harder when it's 30 year old trained gunmen that might have to face being in the line of fire.

Or walking down the street just minding your business spraying pepper spray in peoples faces, and think to yourself, what if someone in this crowd has a gun. I'm only wearing 3 layers of body armor, and I've only got 15 friends around also armed with large assault rifles, gas masks, and tear gas to protect myself, maybe one person in this crowd, might have a weapon somewhere, and might even think about using it.

Or imagine the fear they feel every time they burst down someones door, with only 10 other soldiers, and a mere inches of riot shield in front of them to protect them from these people that have a small chance of owning a firearm somewhere in the house, these brave souls need protection!

I can't imagine what it's like to live in that kind of fear.

[–] Sculptor9157@sh.itjust.works 11 points 3 days ago

I think Uvalde answered that for us.

[–] ZeroPoke@fedia.io 15 points 3 days ago (1 children)

This isnt new from him. He said take the guns back in like 2018 "Take the guns first, go through due process second"
https://www.c-span.org/clip/white-house-event/user-clip-donald-trump-take-the-guns-first-go-through-due-process-second/4717030

2A still voted for him tho shrugs Something something libs take our guns.

I think this is more intended to remove the citizen population's ability to retaliate against a tyrannical government. You know the thing the second amendment was intended for, according to some folks.

This is definitely a feeler. As soon as the blowback hits he’ll change topic and prevent like he never said it. Of course MAGA will forget it too

[–] sleepundertheleaves@infosec.pub 21 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Weirdly, I don't think it's just a feeler. I think this is something Trump actually believes. I mean, the man is in New York billionaire, he's not from American gun culture. Pretty frequently when there's a shooting or gun-related tragedy he talks about taking guns away from people.

You're right that TACO is probably going to TACO and not do anything about it.

On the other hand, this administration has been very clear that First Amendment rights don't apply to their political enemies, and there's no reason they'd feel differently about the Second.

I can easily see gun rights going the way of small government ideology in general - a useful tool when liberals were in power, but counterproductive now that conservatives are running things. There's no right to bear arms against a conservative government, only against a liberal one.

[–] Auli@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 days ago

What he told people to get over a school shooting. How is that talking about removing guns.

[–] prototact@lemmy.zip 5 points 3 days ago (3 children)

At this point it is just to aggravate the left side and direct attention away from the main issue, which is ICE murdering people. MAGA at this point only cares that they remain in power and they dismantle the liberal state. Everything else is chatter.

California's strict gun control started with Reagan because he wanted to disarm the Black Panthers. Republicans are pro 2A, as long as it is reserved for white conservative/fascist people.

EDIT: Governor Reagan. So, before he became president, but 100 fold once he got shot.

[–] ssfckdt@lemmy.blahaj.zone 23 points 3 days ago (2 children)

First he switched the right to pro-tariffs..

Then he switched the right to not-anti-pedophile...

Now switching it to pro-gun-control

Look, can he just hurry the fuck up and get MAGA to support socialism already? I don't feel like waiting this long

[–] Jayjader@jlai.lu 6 points 3 days ago

I want to agree, but knowing Trump it would be a national flavor of socialism :/

So let's see, no Epstein Files, America First is out the window, prices keep rising, and now we're going to restrict the 2nd Amendment.

What exactly is MAGA in for now? The voracious Corruption? The virtuosic incompetence? The Pedophilia? Death Squads spontaneously forming firing squads and executing American citizens in the streets?

Does this look like the kind of freedom you were voting for?

[–] skozzii@lemmy.ca 22 points 3 days ago (2 children)

All that winning must be getting tiring.

They are clearly trying to ensure that they will never be subject to a legitimate election again. Minnesota is a test for how many constitutional amendments they can break. Presidential term limits are absolutely the target. When the oligarchs no longer need their cult they will repeal the entire Constitution. Welcome to the New Confederacy.

[–] krashmo@lemmy.world 13 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Trump is nearing his life's term limit. A 3rd term from him personally is not particularly concerning. That's still a red line in the sand that we should never allow anyone to cross but I'll be surprised if he makes it through his current term in good enough condition to even pretend to be in charge.

[–] BotsRuinedEverything@lemmy.world 23 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (4 children)

Trump is just a symptom. The christofascists in his ear are the sickness. Trump is there just to bulldoze through the Constitution and establish a one party system.

Settle down people. This isn't what you think it is.

They're using this as an explanation of why Pretti was executed.

They're not suggesting that MAGA dickheads cant carry guns.

While irreconcilable to any thinking person. These two statements can happily co-exist in the minds of idiots.

This whole thing is "rules for thee but not for me".

[–] very_well_lost@lemmy.world 13 points 3 days ago

I'll never forget the surprised Pikachu faces on all of those armed MAGA chuds on January 6th when one of them actually got shot.

[–] MiddleAgesModem@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago

They’re using this as an explanation of why Pretti was executed.

Yeah, and they're saying they should be restricted, moreso than they are. That's not the traditional conservative position.

They're not suggesting liberals can't carry guns either. They're saying neither should carry a gun to a protest.

It's a bizarre position.

[–] ThePantser@sh.itjust.works 54 points 3 days ago

Will Trump be the one who solves the gun problem in the US?

Nope, because it will be, "Gun for me, not for thee."

[–] RainbowHedgehog@lemmy.world 39 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Just like when gun control was brought to California when the Black Panthers open carried.

He doesn't know what he is talking about most of the time and this time he didn't realize the camera's were on, or his honest feelings came out.

New yorkers have always known trump is a POS and will change his opinion to whatever gets him money and power. We all know he used to be a democrat, but changed to republican because the democrats hated him and knew he is a POS.

He just wants ICE, Fascists, 2A-toters and white rednecks to be armed.

He doesn't want blacks, LGBTQ and enemies of the government to be armed.

We do need gun control. For ICE. Those criminals should not be armed.

From the guy that defended Rittenhouse’s gun as a tool of “self defense.”

"Don't Tread On Me" bros warming up, stretching, hydrating, preparing to stoop the lowest they have ever stooped to lick Trump's boots as he ramps up his attacks on the Second Amendment

Best part of this article.

[–] thatradomguy@lemmy.world 9 points 3 days ago

Hey guys, I think I heard dingo here say he wants the Epstein files released in full. Let's do him that favor. Long overdo.

[–] SarcasticMan@lemmy.world 12 points 3 days ago

Whaaaaaaaat! The guy who said "Take the guns first, go through due process second" is suggesting they take your guns? Its almost like he says what he is going to do before he does it, Im sure absolutely no one saw this coming.
