I got stuck looking at the red circle in the background. Kept thinking that it wasn't really circling anything worth looking at.

[–] SubArcticTundra@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Nah it's just some French road sign (recognizing countries by road signs is my special skill)

[–] kameecoding@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

How do you know it's french? Those signs definitely exist in Slovakia too, heck I's be surprised if it weren't an EU standard

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

UN standard actually, but primarily in Europe. The americas largely follow US road marking standards or ones inspired by them. The Aussies and kiwis followed us yanks and canucks.

The border width to circle width to centre width. Every country has it different

[–] Dozzi92@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Thanks for giving me a reason to go look at the picture again. I enjoyed the joke, and then you had me enter a second dimension. Meme recycling.

that is what the tomato looks like. it's why it's off the burger

[–] haroldfinch@feddit.nl 16 points 2 weeks ago (5 children)

The taste of tomatoes/ketchup is great.

The texture of tomatoes is horryfing and makes me shiver and gag.

They are not the same.

[–] HappyFrog@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I feel this way about pickles

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

i'll eat that for yo

[–] zikzak025@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah, it's a texture thing for me, too.

Some people like a good contrast of textures in food. I prefer consistency. So I hate anything in a burger that has any amount of cold or crunch. Mushrooms I can do, but tomatoes make it worse for me.

Especially when you fail to bite all the way through the tomato and end up pulling the whole thing out along with half the other burger toppings.

[–] bcgm3@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

As a person with food texture issues AND a fan of tomatoes in all forms: A lot of tomatoes are selectively grown for weight to maximize profits, but as a result, they're a loose blob of grainy and flavorless bullshit. This is especially true for chain fast food places where they're trying to spend as little as possible on ingredients. Every tomato I've grown at home has been on a completely different level from the ones I've bought.

[–] SubArcticTundra@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 weeks ago

Agreed. It must be some chemical in raw tomatos

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Disagree. The taste of tomatoes is horrendous until cooked and salted. That said, fried and salted Pico de gallo is one of the absolute best baguette toppings

[–] daychilde@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

¿Por qué no los dos?

Mayo-ketchup with tomatoes are tasty on a burger. :)

[–] Cantaloupe@fedioasis.cc 5 points 2 weeks ago

I can do without both.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I only take the tomatoes off if they are cut too thick. I like tomato... Just, not a lot at once.

[–] FinjaminPoach@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

I love diced tomato and tolerste fried tomatoes but raw tomatoes make my top ten least favourite veggies. They exist to be pulverised into delicious sauces which magically improve everything they touch

[–] cupcakezealot@piefed.blahaj.zone 4 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

tomatoes are gross; ketchup is sugar and corn syrup

[–] kameecoding@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Homegrown tomatoes are awesome, especially with a pinch if salt and I say that as someone who grew up as a tomato hater

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Grocery store tomatoes are waxy, bred for shipping, not taste. In Europe, no one would ship a tomato.

[–] bobo@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

you left out mealy

[–] kameecoding@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

From grocery stores I only buy local tomatoes or cherry tomatoes. The cherry tomatoes are fine for cooking even though they are from morocco so quite a bit away, I am guessing because they are so small and firm they don't need to harvest too early.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

you gotta get homegrown of both.

[–] saturn57@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

I'm fine with tomatoes on as burger. The problem is that at the intersection of the two tomatoes they tend to be thicker than the patty and overwhelm the rest of the burger. If I wanted to eat a tomato, I would have just eaten a tomato.

Why tf does this guy’s clothing perfectly blend with his environment? It’s like he went out shopping with a picture of this building and went “I need something that’ll have this colour palette”.

[–] I_Has_A_Hat@lemmy.world 0 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

Yea! What gives? People will eat a wonderfully cooked and prepared steak but turn their nose up at an unseasoned chunk of raw beef. They also prefer soft bread over raw flour. Gosh, it sure is a mystery why people have these preferences! As we all know, cooking and food preparation do absolutely nothing and the end result tastes exactly like the raw ingredients.

[–] Dozzi92@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

[–] probablymissing@lemmy.world 0 points 2 weeks ago

it's kinda like deciding to eat cake instead of eating the milk, wheat, sugar, and eggs seperately
