Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Importantly: they were attacked by the police chief, who wasn't wearing a uniform, and spent the better part of a week in jail already over it.

McElree, the police chief, who was dressed in plain clothes, grabbed a teenage boy and placed a teenage girl in a chokehold, they said, prompting other students to intervene and a larger scuffle to break out.

He's a police chief. He should be smart enough to know how to act in any given situation. Turns out he's emotional and hot headed and not what a police chief should be.

Homie needs to resign before his community removes him, with prejudice.

He knew exactly how he wanted to act and he did it on purpose. This was not a mistake; this was not stupidity; this was evil.

[–] HalfAFrisbee@lemmy.world 27 points 2 weeks ago

LMAO, all cops are bastards.

Here's the police chief being a fuckhead, falls and then can't get up.

[–] Zombiepirate@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

The piece of shit got his ego rocked.

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 10 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah, that's probably why he put them in jail for a week. I can't imagine what those kids went through for no reason.

I have so much hope thanks to the youth in this country. Our next generation will make us proud.

Lmao it wasn't even who I was expecting. Grampa just bursts in from stage right and starts fighting children. What a joke.

  • This will get thrown out in court due to video evidence.
  • There will be a lawsuit after which the town will have to add a new tax line to the rolls to pay these families.
  • Not a fucking thing will happen to the pig that assaulted these kids, and that's the real problem.

There's VIDEO footage of those Teens ~~TACKLING The Officers to the Ground! It's SO Obvious and thank GOD the Police Officers were there to STOP the Violence that was Happening~~!

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Well now why is the majority of your comment crossed out? It's almost like your trying to imply that first part is true, about there being video of the teens. But the rest of the statement, which was claimed by ICE, was a total and complete lie, which was shown by the surfaced video.

Is that what you're suggesting? That ICE just completely lied about a situation which would make them look bad? Who would do that? Just blatently lie like that? Who I ask? It sounds like the same type of person who would target and harass much smaller victims. A teenager perhaps.

.........hey, wait a minute!

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

ICE wasn't involved here. It's the local PD responding to a protest against ICE.

Potato potahto. Ok, small correction, but I still stand by my sentiment.

Some things you read and just think, man, we have really marginalized the wrong people groups in this country.

I wish that people like this guy felt like they are on the fringes of a society that collectively disdains them.

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

They used to. Trump changed that which is why they're so loyal to him.

[–] deacon@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

I don’t know. I mean cops broadly, and we Americans are kind of raised to be boot lickers even before Trump.
