Can everyone chill for just a fucking second, the deluge of insane news this week is unreal

[–] Frozengyro@lemmy.world 100 points 2 months ago (1 children)

That's the point. Do enough crazy shit at once and most of it will be overlooked.

[–] cmbabul@lemmy.world 29 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I get that, but I also cannot myself keep up, I’m fucking losing it

[–] Frozengyro@lemmy.world 16 points 2 months ago

Take a break. Come back when you're ready.

That article shows a list of first day executive orders... Normal presidents have zero or one.. then Biden had a few, and then trump had 26. Flood indeed

Honestly, I look at this and I see a future where everyone runs their own Federated services. I can verify my child's age as well as mine and I'm the best one to decide what they can and can't see. So I only need to worry about me and my family.

Or a local community can run it for themselves.

A forced move away from social media, because they can't afford the risk, to one where we all run our own stuff and can follow who we want.

This is only 1 possible outcome of course, and it's wildly idealist, but it's a future I'm going to push for no matter what. So I'm very biased, so don't take my opinion into account. :D

I like to join your community and you can help me setup one for me and my family. Fuck social media and corporate.

I have a Matrix #the-ozoned:matrix.org . While I don't know a lot, I have quite a few number of folks that do. Or we can all learn and figure things out! I'm often here or on @ozoned@btfree.social as well as my Peertube, TubeFree.org, powered by my nonprofit BTfree.org.

Just say what you need and we can find someone that can make it happen. :-)

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Thank you definitely going check all that out.

I very much doubt it. People in general just don't care, or even worse. They think that it is a good thing as it keeps baddies out (it won't) and it will protect them (it won't).

It seems line very dark times are ahead. Self hosting is good, but it also gives the other side a bright shining beacon to go after. If they know everything about 99% of the population already, they can spend a lot more resources to really get to know the last percent that actively tries to avoid it.

Next step: allow only official services to be used. Introduce draconian legislation to persecute circumvention.

Fines with no legal recourse, debanking or complete banking bans, like EU has imposed on four people so far.

"Let the government put a video camera in your bedroom to verify you aren't molesting kids. If you fight against this, that means you are molesting kids"

-use this argument anytime someone thinks this is about protecting kids.

I tried something similar with my brother-in-law. He is not against chat control in Europe (we live in Denmark), so I asked him to give me his phone, unlock it and let me play around with it without him in the same room. He refused, but still has "nothing to hide". He has not changed his mind...

[–] Mannimarco@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 2 months ago (1 children)

He trusts the government more than you apparently

[–] eleitl@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 months ago

He is a certified idiot.

[–] wabafee@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

He should unlock his phone and give it to the police for a week.

And then do nothing when handed one of the biggest child sexual abuse cases ever.

It doesn't have a paywall for me; sorry if it does for some people, I wouldn't have linked to it if I had known this, but leaving it up because it clearly doesn't for everyone.

[–] oddpixel@lemmy.wtf 7 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

No worries, it's probably doing that due to me never getting off my vpn.

[–] tomjuggler@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

Just a tip: many"paywalled" sites actually load the content then obscure it with JavaScript - you can just click on the reading mode browser button to see the full article

[–] null@lemmy.org 19 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It's irritating that normies eat up any legislation sold as "protecting kids." It's like it shuts off a part of the brain.

[–] shani66@ani.social 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

The founding fathers didn't think everyone should vote, and frankly i think they're right. They had the wrong criteria, sure, but the average person is so gullible, uninformed, and just plain stupid that i genuinely think they (and everyone else) would be better off without a say.

But how to be more selective without it being abused by horrible people? I've got no real idea.

[–] letsgo2themall@lemmy.world 18 points 2 months ago (1 children)

paywalled. also, this is a good way to kill the internet. when everyone starts getting doxxed, all that will be left are the bots.

[–] EndlessNightmare@reddthat.com 9 points 2 months ago

Dead internet theory will be in full effect

[–] DFX4509B@lemmy.wtf 10 points 2 months ago (1 children)

How soon before the Iron Firecurtain drops and the Fourth Reich blocks the entire internet and locks you into a state intranet like China and NK do?

[–] Quexotic@infosec.pub 5 points 1 month ago

<2y I think. Buy your radios now.

[–] Griffus@lemmy.zip 8 points 2 months ago

The land of dystopia just keeps on dystopying

[–] turdburglar@piefed.social 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

marsha blackburn is a gential wart.

not one of the cute fuzzy ones either. nope, she’s one of the inflamed itchy ones that oozes puss and smells like a rotting potato.

i hope she falls in a hole and never finds her way out.

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

do you wish it?

think carefully

[–] Quexotic@infosec.pub 4 points 1 month ago

Still speedrunning civil war, I see. I can't think of anyone that wants this...
